Online research of other identical ... moreframes suggests that it originally contained a mirror. At some point the mirror was removed and replaced with glass in order to use it as a picture frame. The glass is clearly not original as the closeups of the back will attest. There is some evidence that the gilt border was touched up. Some random distress marks and small white specks can be seen in the closeups. The center of the arch has a couple of very fine cosmetic hairline cracks. There is no back panel.

The beautiful and ornate antique frame came with a painting in it. And the stretcher corner braces are marked"PAT Feb 13, 1883, June 16, 1885, A.D.S. which gives a very accurate date for this frames creation! The frame is solid and in remarkable condition for one of this age, with very minor damage to the gesso and some corner baldness(see photos 2,3, and 4 for examples! This frame has lots of character. It is just how I found it. With plenty of patina, dust, and even some old cobwebs. The frame seems to be solid, and in good condition. Judging by the hardware and construction, I believe it is probably late 1800's(but I am no expert) I think it was a mirror frame, but would make a beautiful picture or painting frame. Antique 19th Century Victorian Wood & Gesso Picture Frame Gilt Gold with Glass
Antique Victorian picture frame made of wood and gesso. It has an ornate design with some gilt. The frame measures 14-5/8" x 17-3/4" It does come with glass that is held in by nails on the back. The glass portion measures approximately 11 inches by almost 14 inches. There is a wire attached to the back for hanging. Overall this frame is pretty good condition with most of that gesso in tact. However it does show signs of age and wear. There are some small cracks in the gesso And some old green paint along the top. The glass does have one scratch. There os a picture. Gorgeous Antique 19th Century Victorian Gold Gilt Frame
This is a truly stunning antique late 19th century Victorian gold gilt frame. This frame will bring any oil painting you have alive! The overall frame measures 22 1/8 inches x 19 5/8 inches(56.2 cm x 50 cm) The back opening measures 10 3/4 inches x 8 1/4 inches(27.3 cm x 21 cm) The width is an incredible 6 inches(15.2 cm) It is made from three sections to form a super wide frame. It has some minor damage. One inside corner has a missing piece of composition about one quarter inch(64 cm) wide and the other corner has a tiny crack in it about 1 inch long(2.54 cm) There are a couple of pieces chipped off the composition and a very small amount of touchup in one corner on the outside. Please see the photos. Some of the gilding has been worn off in a few areas. Most notably the interior beading. I'm being very picky about the damage. This is a large antique mid-19th century lemon gold gilded stenciled portrait frame. This particular frame wasn't originally used for a portrait. Though this type of frame is frequently used for that purpose. Antique Gilded 19th Century APC Bonte Wood Picture Frame with Picture
This approx. 14" x 12" antique. Oval, gilded wood picture frame with gesso ornaments, was hand made in the"FRAMES and LOOKING GLASSES" workshop of APC Bonte in Cincinnati, Ohio in the second half of the nineteenth century. Part of the original label is still can be seen on the back. I do not know if the picture of a mother and her son in the 9 1/2" opening is also a period antique, but I am positive that the black touch-ups on it were not made by Photoshop or Corel Draw. The frame and the picture is in very good to excellent condition, but the gesso decoration was shaved off from the outer rim of the frame for some times ago. Please note that I will be listing two of these frames separately tonight. One a little larger than the other. This one is the smaller one. This is a rare antique mid-19th-century oval brass shell on wood frame. It dates from the 1840s. It measures 14" x 12 3/4" 35.6 cm x 32.4 cm) It fits a picture size 11 1/4" x 9 3/4" 28.6 cm x 24.8 cm) The molding is 1 1/2" wide(3.8 cm) This is an American frame made of a brass shell molding. Which is crimped over the sides of the wood molding. As you can see in the photos. The wood has shrunk a bit leaving an opening. But this does not affect the sturdiness of the frame at all. The photos of the various sections of the frame aren't in any particular order. As I was getting confused! There are about six small dents on it. One which is on the inner rim. There is also one small ... morereverse dent. I don't feel these take away from the old world feel of the frame. But I did want to point them out and you can see them in the photos.
