They have a tapered vase shape with dark patination. Are mounted on rouge griotte marble bases, and are fitted with angular handles rising from bearded lion masks. Each measures 12.7 cm(5" wide and deep at the base, and 54 cm(21.25" to the top where the finials screw down, and 57.2 cm(22.5" to the tops of the finials. The lower sections are decorated with foliate mounts and the pedestals feature mounts depicting rosettes and lyres. Sometime in the early twentieth century each were drilled to accomodate lamp hardware, and bronze bases with fitted side holes to accomodate lamp wiring were also added. Brass finials decorate the top of each ... morevase, and the finials do not match. The matching sections beneath the finials have some corrosion and white residue which we will try to remove prior to shipment. We will be happy to add sockets and wiring for $150. Or, if you wish to use them as decorative objects, we can source a brass finial to match either existing finial. These urns are almost identical in design. Size, decoration and craftsmanship to others attributed by Sotheby's to the French bronzier Claude Galle(1759-1815) who is said to have been one of the most important bronze artists of the post-revolutionary period. He was a principal supplier of decorative art for the chateaus Fontainebleau, Compiègne, Rambouillet, and Trianons. Antique French Palais Royal Egg Shaped M.O.P. Ormolu Perfume Scent Casket Caddy
Petite and pretty. Circa 1870s, French Palais Royal egg shaped mother of pearl and gilt metal perfume casket with two miniature cut glass bottles. Finial with flower and vine leaf on opposite sides. Mounted on an alabaster plinth. By pressing the finial a spring mechanism inside the center rod releases a clasp that holds the shell halves together and the egg opens up. Inside the two bottles sit in filigree holders on the rod. Mechanism works fine. The position of the shells when open is not completely symmetrical. The shell halves are in perfect condition with a beautiful iridescent lustre. The bottles are clean without any chips. The gilt caps show some wear but the hinges are good and they close well. One stopper is missing. No chips or cracks to the alabaster plinth. The ormolu mounts have lost some of the gilding but is still in very ... moregood condition. FATIGUED FRENCH FINDS fatiguedfrenchfinds This is a beautiful pair of antique French onyx and gilt ormolu 5 branch gilt candlesticks. Each candlestick stands 43.8cms or 17¼” tall. The gilding on the ormolu has faded with time and they have a fabulous Fatigued French finish. The gilt is still in place underneath the candle holders and is a glorious shiny gold. I have to say that I prefer the faded elegance of the front surface! The engraving on the ormolu is fabulous. There is some verdigris but they would polish up more if you wished. I have only wiped the surface. They are very heavy and the combined weight of the pair is 4.320kgs. So unfortunately the shipping will be expensive. In excellent vintage condition. The ruffled dish has an un polished pontil. These items were brought back as souvenirs from the Grand Tour. There is only one bottle and strange enough. It has a clean hole on one corner. Raised outside) on three ormolu lion feet and gilt bronze mount. French, circa 1860. The mount is quite uncommon. With three wires holding the bowl from the ormolu leaves on the rim. Three nicely ornate lion feet on the base ring. One chip to be noticed on the crystal bowl rim hidden by the top ormolu ring. The ormolu ring itself seems to have been repaired above the same place(see photos below) The bowl as a whole looks very fine despite this. Gilding very well preserved. Description A stunning antique 19th century French hand carved wooden perfume caddy. Beautifully hand carved. Of walnut? with exquisite bouquet of flowers adorning the lid done in raised relief. The box is surrounded by a unique pattern reminiscent of coffer ceilings. A truly gorgeous piece. Having a working lock and key. Resting atop four bun feet. The lid opens to reveal a red velvet lined fitted interior, house a pair of gorgeous perfume bottles. Of thick cut crystal, likely old Baccarat, with ornate gilt ormolu collars and hinged lids. An added touch are the stunning cobalt blue enamel tops accented by charming gold gilt stars. In very good condition with general wear. The lot comprising: 1 small table/snuff box of rectangular form raised on four ball feet, the box set with eight polished and beveled agate panels mounted en cage within a gilt bronze frame with engine-milled borders, the front edge of the hinged cover with slightly raised thumb piece, the panels of a deep orange-red tone shading to a translucent pale grey, the ball feet of an opaque reddish-pink color; together with 1 similar pencil with faceted red agate handle and gilt metal top with engraved geometric pattern. This masterwork of french decorative art craftsmanship has been produced for one of the leading parisian luxury shops of the Palais Royal offering the best of french precious objects to Grand Tour and aristocratic travellers in the middle of the 19th century. Around a mother-of-pearl natural shell(probably from a Turbo marmoratus) the workshop has built an intricated mount made of four different curved stems set within an octagonal gilt mount on alabaster base.
