Made of brilliant gilt bronze, by Alexandre Chertier(French, 1825- 1890) Chertier, a specialist in ecclesiastical work in silver and bronze received a gold medal as coopirateur at the Exposition Universelle of 1855 while working as foreman at the House of Bachelet in Paris. In 1857 he founded his own firm at 48, rue Mazarin, moving to 7, rue Firu in 1866. His important works, produced after 1870, include those for the church of Mont-Saint-Michel, and for the cathedrals of Saint-Omer, Reims, Moulins and Strasbourg. This substantialy made bronze stand measures 9.5 inches high. 15 x 17 inches at the base, 12 x13.5 at the top. I have pictured it with a modern marble top, which I will include if requested. This is really neat! It's an old vintage. Possibly antique but I'm unsure how to tell it's age, picture frame, marked'Made In France' on the back. I think it's brass with gold gilt, but I'm not sure- you'll have to look at the pictures and judge for yourself. p It's got an interesting easel back, and also has an intriguing old black and white photo of a girl in it, which looks like it might have another photo underneath, but I've not taken it apart to find out- I'll leave that mystery up to its new owner. C1900 FRENCH GRAND TOUR 18K GOLD ETUI NECESSAIRE SOUVENIR CASE MIRROR& TOOLS This listing is for an antique. Circa 1900, French Grand Tour Souvenir etui or necessaire case. This is from the estate of Monique Uzielli a European aristocrat who passed away in 2011 at the age of 98. She was the owner of a 5th Avenue New York penthouse which is now on the market for 27.5 million dollars. The case measures 3 by 2 1/4 inches and is 1/2inch thick or 75 by 40 by 12 mm. The outside of the case is in a material that I am not familiar with. However it looks like gutta percha. It is mounted on an 18 karat gold frame. Both the front and back of the case have an inset decoration of gold and silver showing two fancy birds in a garden setting. The cover of the case is hinged. Inside there is a variety of tools etc. They are an 18k gold framed mirror. ... moreAn 18k gold needle, a 14k gold tipped pencil and a 14k gold tipped steel toothpick. There is also an 18k gold riveted folding ox bone pad. All of these tools are set in an 18k gold fitted frame. Notice the inside of the case is all in 18k gold and quite thick. It is impossible to estimate gold weight here because of the outer case. Mirror glass, silver and steel catch, hinge etc, make that not possible. But the total weight of the case is 61.8 pennyweights or 96.1 grams. All the gold has been tested and of course is guaranteed to be as advertised. The condition is as follows. Overall it is excellent. There are no missing tools, the hinge is tight and sound and the case apart from some very minor scratches is in good condition there is however, a small hairline crack at the back top case. However the two inset gold and silver decorations(the birds in the garden) have been crudely reglued in place and have raised somewhat. This should be attended to and fixed by any competent jeweler. The measurement is about 5 1/2" tall to the top of the flower and 3 1/4" widest. The egg itself is about 3 1/2" high and 2 1/4" wide. A good size one. The metal stand look ormolu/ gilt bronze or brass with some edged design. The egg has a flower on top. Three small round ring hanging on the sides. This piece is in great condition, no chips or cracks on the glass. Some tiny tiny white spots from original glass making. No break on the metal, very minor wear on the gilt. This dated early 1900s. Beautiful Kiln Fired French Enamel Opera Glasses
These are a beautiful pair of La Duchesse opera glasses. Made in Paris France, circa 1900. The brass has a beautiful aged patina, and the body is a gorgeous kiln fired enamel, with a lovely pink background, with flowers and Dragon Flies. The eye pieces are crowned in Mother of Pearl, with the La Duchesse, Paris mark on each one. The glass has no cracks and the optics are great, The lenses raise by the Mother of Pearl wheel in the center. Many of these opera glasses come without a handle, but these have a lovely handle, which folds flat against the glasses when not in use, and rotates out for the lady to use to lift them to her eyes. There is one small dent in the brass around one glass on the bottom, but other than that small dent, these opera glasses are in great shape for their age, and have been lovingly taken care of.
