Ornate Antique Victorian Carved Oak Wood Picture Frame
The outer dimensions of this antique frame are approx. 21 3/4" x 25 3/4" The inside dimensions. What size print will fit, are approx. 14 1/2" x 18 1/2" of course, you could also use a mat) The ornate borders are wood, most of the ones you find have a plaster or gesso that is molded to shape. I would assume that this was not an inexpensive frame in it's day. It is in super condition, with only very slight blemishes- VERY slight. Thanks for viewing this auction.

Only one knick in wood on top corner edge/point on each frame but not very noticeable towards back. Two brackets on back for hanging. Beautiful overall condition wood. Nice quality. This is an antique oak wood picture frame. Hand made, that can stand alone or hang on the wall. There are four screws that hold the mounting securely on the back. This group of 1880s-90s picture frames were most likely designed to accommodate portrait cabinet card photographs. The H-form Victorian aesthetic example in natural oak wood finish gesso and bronze gilt measures 12 ½” x 6 ¾” overall; 5 ½” x 3 ¾” reveal and accommodates an image 5 7/8” x 4” The H-form wood finished gesso with rust colored inner velvet liner measures 9 7/8” x 6” overall; 5 3/8” x 3 ¾” and presumably holds a 6” x 4” cabinet card; the original paste board back with twist wire easel support is brittle so we chose not to remove it. The lemon gold and gilt gesso open work frame with replaced easel support back measures 8 ½” x 6 ¼” overall; 6 5/8” x 4 3/8” reveal; 6 7/8” x 4 5/8” back opening. I would date it late 1890s to approximately 1910. Overall. Handsome small square antique oak wood and carved stand up mirror or picture frame. Measures 7 3/4" square- outside dimensions. And 4 7/8" square- inside dimensions, width of frame 1 1/2" and depth is 5/8" Wonderful small size. Wood is oak with very nice patina. Carving is actually an applied material of some sort. Perhaps a cast wax or something similar. It is hard and feels and looks like wood carving but I don't believe it is. Use your own judgement. I have seen this before on other antique frames. I believe this likely dates from the late 1800's to early 1900's. Condition: It is slightly off square. There is some slight movement when forced as you can tell by the narrow gaps at the mitered corners. Nothing major, however. For your consideration is an extremely rare and beautiful large burnt wood Flemish art or pyrography. Said to have come from an old Odd Fellows Lodge. Containing the entire Lord's Prayer burned by hand onto a 24" by 20" board and adorned with two glass"eyes" Framed in an original Victorian golden oak and gesso picture frame measuring a huge 34" tall by 30" wide. This unusual 19th century art form called"pyrography" was very popular in the late 19th century and small pieces from this period are very easy to find. This example, however, is an extraodinary expression of the art form and perhaps one of a kind. I acquired this many years ago from a dealer who claimed it came from a dismantled Odd Fellows lodge and was bundled with the usual I.O.O.F. regalia commonly seen. If so. This piece is unusual ... morein that it doesn't contain any typical Odd Fellows symbology, such as the three links or mason's square and compass.
