Antique Eastlake Victorian Black Forest Picture Frame; walnut, old surface
Up for bids we offer this antique. Black Forest, picture frame at no reserve. From the Victorian period, it's made of walnut with a grooved surface and cut and carved corner medalions. The wood still has its original shellac; we cleaned it up but otherwise it's unrestored. The inner frame still has its original plaster and gold leaf paint with only minor aging flaws. The frame's overall measurements are 9 1/2" by 7 3/8" and the opening is 6 1/2" by 4 1/4" It's well-built and still tight and sound. It's right out of an old home where it had been hidden away in the attic for decades. It's in very good, overall condition and is missing only a small pointed piece of one of the corner medalions which doesn't hurt its appearance. From the Victorian period, they are made of black walnut with carved surfaces that resemble crisscrossed tree branches. Each of the frames overall measurements is 10 5/8" by 8 3/8" and each has an opening that is 6 5/8" by 4 3/8" They are well-built and still tight and sound. Both are in very good, overall condition but one does have a 1 inch crack in the glass in the upper right corner and the other is missing a small piece of wood in the back which isn't visible when hanging on a wall. Switzerland. I was fortunate enough to be allowed into their archives and privileged to purchase some of their antique stock that had never been circulated. This auction is for this magnificent tall hand carved table top easel to hold a large photo or a painting. The body is carved to make the wood look like twigs and give it a semi rustic appearance. The top is decorated with three glorious delicately carved Edelweiss flowers. This is an amazing masterpiece carved by the famous Fluck Dynasty of Brienz. Switzerland and ... morethe tag that accompanies the frame tells us that it is carved by Peter Fluck in 1904. The wood has a beautiful patina and we can find this item in the Ed. Beautiful Old Print of a Baby in Chair with what appears to be a horn or bagpipes on the back of the chair. This piece is a puzzler as the print looks quite old. The material or paper it is printed on looks to be a canvas type of texture. When using a strong magnifier to look for dot patterns, none is to be seen leading me to believe this is indeed an old print. The colors are quite nice. The glass is old with bubbles and flaws. The Black Forest Frame appears to have been painted brown some time in the past. Small pieces of debris can be seen under the glass, and I have not taken it apart to clean or examine it. The large tacks/nails that are holding the back on look to be old. The back looks as if there is water damage but I believe it to be the grain in the wood. It is certainly a beautiful and interesting piece. Still in lovely condition for a really old piece and still usable shape with just a little TLC. The worst feature on the surface is some tape residue that I did not attempt to remove, It has a blue velvet matt still in it where it looks like a small square picture was attached. the oval wooden backing piece is broken in half. Oval opening is about 5 by 6 inches. With a total size of 8 by 10.5 inches. This is an extremely rare and unusual BLACK FOREST hand carved wooden frame dating from around 1850. It appears to have a Middle-eastern feel to it. Such as Palestine of the 19th century or Egypt of the same period. It held a thermometer within the frame originally. That would have been a novelty then. The piece is all original with no repair or restoration. You could place a cropped photograph in the frame or a custom painting or drawing.The specie of wood is indeterminable by us. Up for auction is an antique 19th Century folk art Black Forest style picture frame. With what appears to be original glass, recently found at auction in the Chester County, PA area. It is found in good used condition. There are half flower style flower carvings in a repeating pattern form. It may be hand carved. Regardless, it is of very fine quality. This frame will accommodate any 5 1/2" x 11" The overall size of the entire frame is approximately 10" x 15 1/2" in size. There are a few air bubbles in the glass, indicating age. Fantastic pair of antique Black Forest hand carved picture frames. Ca. 1900. Family history says they were carved by Albert Sauter in 1900, a carpenter from W ürttemberg. Which places him in the Black Forest/Schwarzwald area of Baden-W ürttemberg. The frames themselves are light maple. Making the gorgeous carvings in a darker oak stand out even more. Beautifully carved garlands of fruits and leaves on the sides with rabbit, reclining dog, crowing rooster with hen and chicks, and a fox catching a large bird or duck, hand carved by an excellent turn-of-the-century craftsman. The sides and top are decorated with frolicking squirrels with nuts in their mouth and the rest of the design has cut out leaves. Berries, flowers, and floral motifs with a fleur de lis decor and more! The inside frame is also beautifully decorated in an Empire decor with fleur de lis in the corners. The whole frame is carved from walnut and has a rich walnut colored patina. It is in good used condition and probably was carved in Brienz. When it hits ROCK BOTTOM. I rescue. Item Number: 978 T WO(2) VERY OLD BLACK FOREST STYLE RUSTIC PRIMITIVE CARVED WOOD PICTURE FRAMES with GLASS. A wonderful pair of picture frames. All carved and so rustic looking! Two different sizes, one glass opening is 11-3/4" x 9-1/2" and the larger one is 13-3/4" x 9-3/4" glass opening size. This is the measurement from outside edge of gold rim all around the frame. Of course you could use a mat in them and mat them down to your 8 x 10's or 5 x 7's. Dark rustic patina. Very nicely carved old wood. Leaves carved also, there are some pieces broken off and missing of the leaves layered on the wood panels. Some of the leaves has a missing point or two. For me, the missing part is hard to notice, everything just"fits" in nicely, it works as it is. Check out all the photos ... moreas I show them very clearly. Lots of detail in the wood panels, intricately carved with leaves on corners of frames where they cross. Comes with glass and some cardboard backing under the back panel. Wires across middle appear original, attached on each side of frame. Examine all the photos. I was just in Switzerland and bought this at an antique sale in Thun. Switzerland. This is one of a pair of two and is in beautiful condition. It is a table top easel type picture frame. It was carved by one of the master carvers of Briewnz, Switzerland and carved from Lindenwood and stained a very nice rich walnut brown. The frame is carved to simulate grape vines and is carved with a heavy bas relief. Super imposed on the frame. But all carved from one piece of wood, are grape leaves.
