Please see my other listings for two more snuff boxes and other silver items. This beautiful little box features smooth silver surfaces and a lift-off lid with a round turquoise stone. It is marked inside with two hallmarks that I think are from Iraq, and one of the symbols(the assay mark) is repeated on the edge of the base and inside the lid. Below is a not very good photo of the two hallmarks and a little drawing I made. There is also a good photo of the assay mark inside the lid. You can scroll down to see more photos. Lovely Victorian mid-late 19 th century snuff. Pill, patch or trinket bo x. Boldly striated beve led-edged slabs of banded agate are bezel set and housed in a decorative brass or gilt metal pierced frame with a delicate floral design. The agate panels are nearly translucent and have a smooth and tactile finish that only comes from age and handling over long periods of time. There are no chips or cracks and no nibbling at the edges. The hinge is of the 3 tube variety and the box opens and shuts securely. The agate slabs are firmly held but there is the slightest of clacking sound s when the piece is handled. Since the prongs and frame are completely intact. The piece was probably made this way. This is a very Beautiful Antique Italian Micro Mosaic Snuff Pill Box. The Box was made Circa 1880s. In Italy. Micro Mosaic is a very well known company for centuries. The box has 4 total Micro Mosaic sections. The Parthenon in the front center 1 1/2 inches x 1 inch. Then on both sides, there is gorgeous Floral details of fine flowers. Both of them are(1 5/8th inches long x 1 1/8th inches tall) Then finally on the top of the Micro Mosaic lid there is the Colosseum( 2 inches x 1 1/2)The details on the box is extraordinary and very well made. The inside Rose Gold plates that cover the top and bottom of the box have some dents and small scratches and there is some discoloration on one of the bottom corners, also the bottom ... moreseem is just starting to separate very slightly but I do not see this being a problem and would be very easy to fix if desired in the future. The box still functions properly with the hinge being in great condition still and the lid closes snug to the bottom. All the Gold has been properly acid tested. Unfortunately I am not positive of the origins of this box. I was thinking it could be possibly Swiss or French but one of you would know allot better than I would. There is a hallmark in the inside on the bottom but it is worn and hard to make out, it looks somewhat like a flower top. I will try to take good pictures.
