Antique Mug/Tankard Three Musketeers???
Very old porcelain tankard/mug. I was told it was from the early 1800's. A friend of mine is an auctioneer and said he has never seen one like this. I am by far not an expert so please let the pic's be your judge. Stands 4-1/2" tall heavy with three men on the front-I think they look live muskeeters or buccaneers? Has a tree like handle has age to it there is one minute crack where the pen is pointing to but not really bad. Dr. Wall secured the sum of £4500 from the partners to establish the factory in Worcester and those original partnership deeds are still housed in the Museum of Worcester Porcelain. The Worcester factory always prided itself on its quality Worcester Porcelain. It received a royal warrant in 1789. And is still currently by appointment to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Antique Gaudy Welsh Tankard Shaped Small Mug, Chinoiserie' Scenes
Gaudy Welsh was a cottage industry. Whenever one finds one of these original pieces that were not mass produced. It's bound to be different than all the others. On this one, an"oriental" gentleman and child are shown walking their birds. The child has a top knot, and the gentleman has a typical cone shaped hat, long beard and Oriental style costume. On the reverse, a single figure in a garden and a bird on the wing across the sky. Chinoiserie is the influence of oriental art on the western cultures. It is a French term, that signifies styles in use since the late 1600's reflecting the Chinese artistic influences. Fanciful imagery is used, of an imaginary China, with a mixture of Eastern and Western stylistic elements for both the decoration and shape. Copper lustre accents the panels on the mug, decorated in a rich deep ... moreblue. It was hand painted in the Staffordshire or Swansea district of England. The production was called a cottage industry because undecorated wares were delivered to areas, where villagers took them home and decorated them to earn wages. This is a nice example. Antique English Salt Glaze polychrome enamel decorated stoneware tankard with reeded handle and well formed kick. Rare large size. c1760. CONDITION: Hairline secured on body. Some staining on the rim due to wear. Measurements: 6 3/4" tall A little background on English Salt Glaze: Salt Glaze pottery is exactly what the name implies. Stoneware which has had salt thrown in the kiln at a very high temperature. The volatized salt combines with the mineral elements of the clay leaving a thin coating. The end result leaves an outer layer with the minute"orange peel" pitting that is a characteristic of English Salt Glaze. While the technique dates sto the 15th Century in Germany, it was not until the late 17th Century that the potters of Staffordshire in England began producing it in any quantity. Salt Glaze was produced with various ... morefinishes; plain white, enameled and printed. Antique Victorian 19th Century Irish Ceramic Tankard Mug Lovers& Cows One of three large mugs or tankards found in County Cork in the 1980s. This one has a lovers and cows in a field with sky and clouds. This mug also unusually has a repeated acanthus shape decoration inside the rim. I believe looking at other mugs and the shape of the base. Handles and decoration, although similar to, it is not Belleek which is usually marked as such. It is from the mid to late 19th century. As mug isn't marked and i'm not a ceramics expert, please make your own mind up from the photos and let me know if you have any idea which of the smaller Irish potteries it may have been made by! England in 1751, the factory was established on the banks of the River Severn by a group of local businessmen, with the guidance of Dr John Wall, an eminent physician. Dr. Wall along with another of the group, apothecary William Davis, developed their method for producing porcelain. Dr. Wall secured the sum of £4500 from the partners to establish the factory in Worcester and those original partnership deeds are still housed in the Museum of Worcester Porcelain. A small. C. 1840 Staffordshire Child's Mug with reddish transfer and a lustre border. The image shows a couple, embracing next to a saddled horse. There is a hunting dog in the scene. The mug is 2 ½" tall and 2 ¼" in diameter. Very fine condition, or better, especially for a child's mug: there are no chips, cracks, lines or restorations. The transfer is complete and strong. No maker's markings, and the mug dates to the first half of the 19th Century.

Circa 1840. This diminutive piece stands 2 3/4" tall x 2 7/8" wide with an applied loop handle with leaf terminals. The mug is light weight and beautifully potted. It is transfer printed in rich black with a pearlware glaze. The named mug" Mary Ann" is wrapped in a cartouche of flowers and vines. The mug is naive and richly detailed. The piece is unmarked. It most certainly was made in the Staffordshire district. Mugs like this were made as gifts for good children and rewards of merit.
