In general, these maps are very detailed showing lines of approach, battle formations, forts, batteries, dates, various armies and officers involved, topography down to houses in many cases and other details and historical notes. The Union lines are in blue and the Confederate in Red. A very beautiful map that will frame up nicely! Size: The map image measures 16 by 27 inches on a page measuring approximately 18 by 29 inches with plenty of margin all around for framing. It is a full double page sheet as issued. Condition: The map sheet is in Good to Very Good condition with overall light tonal aging. Blank on the reverse, printed on heavy pliable paper with a centerfold as issued. There are a couple of minor nicks out of the edge, split at the top of the centerfold margin only, and a short edge tear, otherwise it is very clean on strong paper that would frame up nicely. Cartographer: Alvin Jewett Johnson(September 23. 1827- April 22, 1884) was a prolific American map publisher active from 1856 to the mid-1880s. Johnson was born into a poor family in Wallingford, Vermont where he received only a based public education. He is known to have worked as school teacher for several years before moving to Richmond, Virginia. Johnson got his first taste of the map business and a salesman and book canvasser for J. H. Colton and company. The earliest Johnson maps were published with D. Griffing Johnson(no clear relation) and date to the mid-1850s, however it was not until 1860 that the Johnson firm published its first significant work, the Johnson's New Illustrated(Steel Plate) Family Atlas. General Description: 1. Strikingly interesting and highly detailed map. Original hand coloring. The map depicts in great detail all of the geographical information known at the time the map was published. Note that many geographical details have changed since the map was published and were not accurate compared to today's modern maps because things were fully discovered and accurately mapped yet. Map symbols and details include individual towns. Rivers, lakes, bays, harbors, islands, mountains, forests, roads and other important places as shown on the map in this listing. 2. The map is in great condition considering the age and rarity of the map. The overall size of the map sheet is approximately 17 inches by 24 inches. 3. Dimensions: 16x12in or 41x31cm. This is an original antique double sided page or leaf from the 1943 WWII Wartime published Encyclopedia Britannica Atlas. Please note that this is not a lot for two separate images but rather this is a page with two sides. Each with a map of it's own. There are some condition issues with this map: minor discoloration along the page edges and brittle paper. No major tears or creases or holes. It is in largely Good to Very Good condition. Given it's age. This specific map features on one side the state of South Dakota with its cleanly lined counties and clearly labelled cities and towns. This map is centered on the intersection of the borders of Cocke County TN. Greene County TN, and Madison County NC. The edges of this map have been trimmed. And as a result the date and legend are missing. The rectangle in the lower right corner was glued on upside down before the map was trimmed resulting in some inaccuracy. From the William F. Franke. You are looking at a 1980's map of Kentucky. It is by American Geographic. The map measures about 72 inches wide x 58 inches long. It comes in the metal housing that will allow the map to be pulled down or rolled back up automatically. But I can't get it to work properly because I don't know how. I don't have to send the metal housing with this, so let me know if you purchase it and just want the map. This shows Kentucky with all counties including cities and roads. It has a mineral resource map and a Physiographic region map also on the page. There are pictures of the state symbols, a mileage chart, and pictures of the state seal, flag, capitol, and seal of the governor.
