This print has a 1.5" frame border. Print is not framed. Emma Serena"Queena" Stovall was born in 1887 in rural Amherst county Virginia. She was nicknamed Queena because it was easier to pronounce then Emma Serena. When Queena was 9 her father died and the family moved to Lynchburg. Then a town of about 18,000. Queena attended high school but left early to go to work. At age 19, she married a promising businessman some 14 years her senior, and the couple had 8 children. She started painting at age 62, when she was already a great-grandmother. Queena is a Southern memory painter, who often portrayed her black neighbors as well as her own family. When she died in 1980 she had completed only 47 paintings. Queena has been written about, and a film has been made about her life. This fascinating scene is created out of a delightful kind of paper doll dressed in exquisite detail and placed in a landscape of either watercolor or pastel. She looks very pensive as she stands in a field of flowers and foliage. Birds and animals. The artist had a nice eye as to choice and placement of the elements in the scene. The images are mostly shades of russet. Green and brown against a distant landscape. The lady is dressed in a delicate gown with a magnificent layered and fringed shawl which reaches almost to her knees. Both of which are fashioned out of yellow crepe paper with painstaking skill and d etail. The skirt is ruffled at the hem. She wears fingerless black crepe elbow-length gloves and carries a matching black tote on her right arm. Decorated with a decoupage floral spray. In her left hand. She holds a small card on which can be seen a sprig of flowers and the words"Forget me not. To her left. A white dove hovers overhead. To her right. A young lamb stands patiently with a small rowboat in the background. Her black slippered right foot appears to have knocked over a pot of posies. And her left foot seems perilously close to tipping over another. Her gaze. Peering out from her beribboned bonnet, is pensive and wistful, neither happy nor sad.

This is a charming figure of a boy riding a large rooster. The figure is 4 ½ inches tall and 2 ¾ inches long. The figure is made of composition of some type. Maybe papier mache or plaster. It is on a wood base. It has its original paint. It has a real folk art look. We believe it dates to the late 19 th or early 20 th century. It is in very good condition with only minimal paint loss. There is a gap at the bottom. We are not sure if it is loss or the way it was constructed.

It has a handle(brass ornate) on the top with vertical wires in the front. It is footed and stands 13" tall and is 10.5" wide by 8.25 deep at the top. ANTIQUE Reverse Painting Dated 1896 Folk Art 19c AAFA
This is a beautiful reverse painting and mirror. It measures 20.5 inches by 11.25 inches. The painting itself measures 7 inches by 8 inches. On the back side of the mirror it is printed in a oval shape: A. Ramsey& Son Montreal 1896. The colors are still vivid. There are 3 spots where the veneer on the frame has split(with one repair) but it doesn't detract from it's sense of presence. The backing of the mirror is in excellent condition- there are only a few tiny spots where the backing is missing. There is a wooden piece on the back holding the mirror in; it looks original. Mexican Folk Art Decorative lacquered gourd bowl from Olinala.Guerrero. This village is one of the most important lacquer ware villages in Mexico. The background is hand painted and lacquered in a bright orange. Six concentric circles, two with a background of blue and geometric designs, one with just blue and three with silver leaf, surround the bird and foliate motifs. The largest bird is in the center and looms over a body of water with foliate motifs to the left side. Five birds interspersed with flower and leaf designs circle below the lip and around the top of the gourd. On the reverse side three forths of the bottom of the jicara has a black background with six concentric circles, three with silver leaf, one blue with chevrons in it, and two red ones with geometric designs. A floral pattern is in the center. Bird and foliate designs ... moresurround the red circle. A larger band of orange surrounds the top.
