First of all they are 17 ¾ inches by 15 ¾ inches(outside) 9 ¾ inches by 7 ¾ inches(image area) They are in very nice condition, but not perfect. They do have some rubs, minor nicks, and some discoloration in the gold areas. These were purchased at an estate sale. They do each have glass in them, with a wood backing, ready for you to add your favorite photo or painting. The outside frame itself is 4 inches in width and 3 ¾ inches thick. It is actually 3 frames together, the inner frame being the gold gilt. You have a nice 1 ½ inch black carved portion, setting off the two gold frames. DESCRIPTION- Antique Italian/Florentine carved and gilded wooden arched top shadow box. Niche, shrine or frame. It seems that this may have once held a crucifix. Beautiful bold scrolled carving. Velvet lining is a dark(not as bright as the one photo) burgundy/red. I would estimate the age to late19th-early 20th century. CONDITION- The condition is good with some old inactive insect holes. Wear to the gilt(particularly around the galss from cleaning) and old over-paint in spots and areas. There is one old nail for the back and the rest are missing. ALittleUnlimited Antique Museum Quality Carved Wood Gold Gilt Frame Click on the thumbnails to view more photos A beautifully carved antique museum quality frame with gold gilding and a verdigris patina. This is an outstanding frame and will compliment a fine piece of art or an antique porcelain plaque of the proper dimensions. It is in very good condition for its age with normal signs of wear. Very minimal losses at the back edges and corners and two nails exposed on the outside edge where the gesso popped off of them. Along the interior of the site edge there is a 2 3/8" long loss to the gesso that can be restored if you like. Though it does not in my opinion detract from the frame and a 1/4" loss to the gesso on the interior front corner of the bottom left. Please view all of the photographs. HAND CARVED WOOD FRAME ITALY This sale is for an elaborate gilt wood hand carved frame from Italy. I placed a picture inside just to show you how this ornate frame will look with your painting. Porcelain, photograph or print. The hand carvings are a leaf motif and protrude out from the front of the frame in such beautiful detail. I don't see any chips, damage or repairs. Towards the inner part of the frame there is another very nice continuous beaded pattern. I do notice that the corners have slight separation but this is normal with aging and also a characteristic of a hand made frame. There is a lovely impressed design on the outer part of the frame and another carved line dot pattern. The frame has its original patina of rich dark gilt gold. There is a nice triangular hook for hanging. The frame is approximately 11" square. I acquired this at sale of the estate. It was said to be late 19th century. Certainly no later than 1910. We are unsure of the age of the glass. The viewing surface has all the oxidation wear of a vintage old glass mirror. The back of the mirror is pristine. We are unsure if this is because this mirror hung undisturbed for a generation in the same spot or if the glass was replaced. The star of this sale is of course the carved wooden frame. This is a beautiful old frame. It measure 16" X 14" to the outside edge; the opening is 9 1/2" X 11 1/2" from the back side. The frame from the wall is 2 1/4" deep, with the picture insert it is 3" deep. There is an inside frame that is covered in linen I believe. The frame is hand carved; check the pictures closely. There is a makers mark on the backside of the frame in red; see picture 6. The oil painting in the frame is signed but you cannot see the entire signature.I did not remove it from the frame as I did not want to damage anything. This stunning frame is solid wood which is carved in a French or Italian, acanthus scroll design. The carvings are beautifully executed and are open. The frame is in 4 distinct sections that have been joined together to complete the piece. The wood has a gold gilded finish which is not too shiny or too gold but has a more of a golden bronze color. The narrow interior section is an antique white painted finish. The frame retains the original wire hangers and the hanging wire. There is no glass. This is an antique picture frame for a 10 x 14" picture. It is solid wood with some details carved into the edges and a gold gilt inner border with some thin brown lines printed all the way around. The medium brown finish on the outer wood border is smooth and glossy and looks excellent. The inner gold border has some darkening in spots from age but is bright and shiny overall. The glass inside is original and has some air bubbles in it. There is a wood panel over the back that would hold the picture in place. There are two square nails. A modern nail, and a few pieces of tape holding the panel in place, but more nails could be added to hold the picture in. There are newer screws and wire on the back for wall hanging.
