Nice Pair of Antique Daguerreotype Gutta Percha ? Photograph Picture Frames
Just out of a local house is this very nice pair of antique wall hung picture frames that were used for framing Daguerreotypes. They have flowers and ladies faces on an ornate scroll design frame. They both have their original decorated glass inserts and remnants of their paper labels that were marked Daguerreotype. I have seen this called Napoleon III frames. The frames measure 9 7/8 inches high and 8 inches at its widest. The frames are in good condition with some cracking. Small chips, and wear to the finish. The glass insert in one is in excellent condition but the other insert has some of the black reverse paint flaking. See photos. They would make a great addition for your period Dags or other photographs. It is hard to find a pair. Would make a nice addition to any collection. Guaranteed as described. The frame measures 19½" by 23¾" and is wood under gesso with a tiger oak finish. The label says it was done by Halsted Art Shop in Chicago. As the photos show. The frame has water and gesso damage at the bottom plus the normal chips and wear consistent with age. The glass is original and in excellent condition. Antique Victorian Era Pressed Paperboard Picture Photograph Frame This old beauty came with the lot of old tintypes that I purchased and just listed- none of them were inside of it. There is sat all by itself. And it's just so pretty! What I have is an antique, Victorian era pressed paper board photo frame. I don't know if this was part of an album, or maybe had a light easel(like a wire one) at one point in time, but what's left of it now is the best part- the frame itself, nothing else. It's made from a light, pressed paper board that is not pliable(unless you force it- then it would move) that is brown, with lovely high relief detailing on the front. On the back, you can see faded rose colored paper shreds and pieces- as if it had covered the back at one point in time and is mostly no longer there. You can see a little ... moresheen to the brown finish at the back- where it dripped back there from the front- it's shiny at the back, but no longer at the front. You can also see what looks like a nail hole at the very top- see photo 4. I'm guessing someone had this one on the wall. Other than that, it's really in excellent solid and sturdy condition, especially for being over 100 years old. There are some very teenie spots of wear to the brown finish, and it could use a little dusting/wipe off- I have not cleaned it in any way, it's as found. The outside of the frame measures 4 3/4" wide by 6 3/4" tall and the inside opening is 2 1/4" by 3 1/2" tall. It's light, weighing only a couple of ounces. Prettyprettypretty! This picture frame measures 13 1/2" x 15 1/2" with a rabbet opening on back measuring 10" x 12" and is 2" wide x 2 1/4" deep(NOTE: this frame can be oriented in either direction depending on your subject matter. Use scroll bar to see all 10 close-up photos) This walnut frame is all hand carved with naturalistic motifs of logs and bark and has an inner molded plaster reveal with gilt decoration that is held in place using hand forged square nails. The"Naturalist" movement here in the US was a reaction against the ornate Victorian style and was popular from 1850-1865 and showed natural themes such as leaves. Berries, twigs and trees and shouldn't be confused with post 1880"Adirondack" rustic styles that continued up through the early 1900's. Dating c.1857-1862. One of the 5x7 size frame is marked: Bawden Studios. Saint Paul. The other one is marked: Turner, Bremerton, Wash. Both look in fantastic condition. The one that is an 8x10 size frame. With the lady photo, has no studio name that I can see. This one also has the stain on the backside bottom corner. Large photo in the large flat frame.
