Antique Eastlake Victorian Black Forest Picture Frame; walnut, old surface
Up for bids we offer this antique. Black Forest, picture frame at no reserve. From the Victorian period, it's made of walnut with a grooved surface and cut and carved corner medalions. The wood still has its original shellac; we cleaned it up but otherwise it's unrestored. The inner frame still has its original plaster and gold leaf paint with only minor aging flaws. The frame's overall measurements are 9 1/2" by 7 3/8" and the opening is 6 1/2" by 4 1/4" It's well-built and still tight and sound. It's right out of an old home where it had been hidden away in the attic for decades. It's in very good, overall condition and is missing only a small pointed piece of one of the corner medalions which doesn't hurt its appearance. Both are in very good, overall condition but one does have a 1 inch crack in the glass in the upper right corner and the other is missing a small piece of wood in the back which isn't visible when hanging on a wall. They currently have matching prints of birds, one a Scarlet Tanager and the other a Downy Woodpecker. Antique Black Forest Framed Chromo Litho of Baby/Tramp Art/Old Glass
Beautiful Old Print of a Baby in Chair with what appears to be a horn or bagpipes on the back of the chair. This piece is a puzzler as the print looks quite old. The material or paper it is printed on looks to be a canvas type of texture. When using a strong magnifier to look for dot patterns, none is to be seen leading me to believe this is indeed an old print. The colors are quite nice. The glass is old with bubbles and flaws. The Black Forest Frame appears to have been painted brown some time in the past. Small pieces of debris can be seen under the glass, and I have not taken it apart to clean or examine it. The large tacks/nails that are holding the back on look to be old. The back looks as if there is water damage but I believe it to be the grain in the wood. It is certainly a beautiful and interesting piece. Still in lovely condition for a really old piece and still usable shape with just a little TLC. The worst feature on the surface is some tape residue that I did not attempt to remove, It has a blue velvet matt still in it where it looks like a small square picture was attached. the oval wooden backing piece is broken in half. Oval opening is about 5 by 6 inches. With a total size of 8 by 10.5 inches. This is an extremely rare and unusual BLACK FOREST hand carved wooden frame dating from around 1850. It appears to have a Middle-eastern feel to it. Such as Palestine of the 19th century or Egypt of the same period. It held a thermometer within the frame originally. That would have been a novelty then. The piece is all original with no repair or restoration. You could place a cropped photograph in the frame or a custom painting or drawing.The specie of wood is indeterminable by us. The frame has the wear and mellow patination one would expect with its age but, no damage. The piece measures 11 inches tall, 6 inches wide and 4 inches deep. Up for auction is an antique 19th Century folk art Black Forest style picture frame. With what appears to be original glass, recently found at auction in the Chester County, PA area. It is found in good used condition. There are half flower style flower carvings in a repeating pattern form. It may be hand carved. Regardless, it is of very fine quality. This frame will accommodate any 5 1/2" x 11" The overall size of the entire frame is approximately 10" x 15 1/2" in size. There are a few air bubbles in the glass, indicating age. The hanging wire is missing and will need to be replaced. There are some losses to the original finish is some areas. This is seen in the photos. The whole frame is carved from walnut and has a rich walnut colored patina. It is in good used condition and probably was carved in Brienz. This antique framed hand colored lithograph(an original print) is titled"JEUNE FILLE DE BRIENZ" and since Brienz is a village on the northern shore of Lake Brienz in Switzerland. This litho is surely originally from Switzerland especially in conjunction with the beautiful thick carved walnut frame with gorgeous grain and patina. There is a myth that the Black Forest carvings come from the Black Forest in Germany, however, most are from Switzerland and many from 19th century Brienz. Antique 1860 Black Forest Carved Wood Picture Frame French Empire Regency 21x16
This incredible early to middle 1800s all wood frame is crisply carved of dark wood(cherry? with its original lemon gold ogee fillet and measures 26 ¾” x 21 ¾” overall with 21” x 16” reveal. It never had a back rabbet: applied moldings determine the back opening. Currently the modern molding describes a back opening of 22 ¾” x 17 5/8” But can easily be reduced. The surface of the frame bristles with confidently rendered foliate details with crossed ribbons and leaf elements at the corner. The carving appears to be Swiss or Black Forest to me, in the late Empire or neo-classical manner. It has lapped construction at the corners and dry, dark original surface on the face. Being offered for a nod of nostalgic passion and consideration is a gathering of three identical(what I call) Black Forest/or Adirondack frames. This gathering of three were purchased in the Historical Hill District of Grand Rapids(the furniture city of old) Michigan. Each frame with its bark like façade and embellishments of floral leaf design at all corner placement is truly a treasure found. Due to age and their fragile nature each frame supports a less than perfect. However more than expected demeanor. View all photos. The leaves which are carved thin wood are less than perfect. One frame does ... morehave missing the extension past the frame on the top. These antique frames will need a good cleaning upon arrival. So allow yourself time before the“wows” set in. In their infancy. These frames must have been show stoppers, because at this age-they are pretty darn impressive. Each of the matching frames measure around 22 x 10 ¼ inches from outside edge to edge. Actual framing size is that of 21 x 8 ¾.
