Antique American Gold Leaf Picture Frame, Gilt Frame, Old Glass, circa 1850
Offered for sale we have an antique gold leaf picture frame. Probably dating from 1840 to 1860. This is a dark gold frame, that I think has darkened a bit more with age. The rabbet size is 24" X 15 7/8" with about 1/8" allowance) the outside of the frame is 26 1/2" X 18 1/2. The moulding is 1 5/8" wide. Besides the glass and old paper back, there's another 1/4" of rabbet depth. This is a great antique frame, but it does have some condition issues. As you can see in the pictures, there are chips on all four corners. Though there are chips, the gesso and gold leaf on the frame is firmly attached an has no inclination to chip any more. The bottom rail has darkened with age, and has dark discoloration in the cove. This you can see in the 6th picture. There are spots on the gold, but especially on the right hand ... moreside, in the cove. The frame was joined with splines, then nailed at a later date. The two upper corners are not tight, as you can see in the pictures. There's a chip on the side of the upper left hand corner that is not pictured, it would be close to the wall, not visible from the front. The side of the frame cants in a bit at the back, towards the wall. The frame has nice. Old wavy glass, a Victorian print, and thin crummy old paper backing. Due to the discoloration on the bottom side, this frame really should be used the way it's hanging now. It would be great for an antique portrait, early sampler, or vertical still life or landscape. It would not look good with the darkened rail being on the side, I think it would look lopsided. Please look carefully at the photos, and ask a question if you have one. Personally, I love these old, hard to find gilt frames, but this one is far from perfect, and if the defects bother you, I'm sure there are many frames in better condition available. Canted molding with a flat top edges. Painted sides and solid, square nailed two part frame construction with the inner frame lap jointed. Solid, well constructed frame. This is an excellent very early American black painted primitive frame. Hard to date these early styles but my best guess would be late 18th century up until through the first quarter of the 19th century. Earlier than the standard canted molding styles of the currier and ives frames.and similar to the c1800 simple miniature black frames. Beautiful original dry. Crusty black surface with nice patina and minor wear. Flat molding with narrow. Channeled cushion(convex) molded site liner. Pinned corners(typical of Pa construction) with solid lap joints and original hanging loop. Frame measures 14 1/8 x 18 1/8 with an 11 7/8 x 16 rabbet. Found in central Pa. A quality. And have remained with the original family. Early 20th Century frame is of solid construction with mitered corners and dark brown paint on plywood back. Back can easily be removed by pulling out the brads. Front of frame is dark olive green. The bonnet top contains Pennsylvania Dutch style hand painted flowers. Leaves and swirls, in greens, orange, and yellow. The painted wood has many places where the paint has flaked off. It is naturally distressed and there have been no attempts at restoration. Very good shabby chic condition. Original screw eyes and wire are intact. 18" x 14" floral print on board is in very good condition. On the back it reads"3704-2. 1/17/60" ... moreBlack vase with pink. White and yellow flowers and a green background. Also included is another varnished print that was under the floral. It depicts a Colonial town hall building with trees. And two figures in the foreground. Native American Indian beaded picture frame. Dated 1911. Rare animal theme. Length is 10" excluding the fringe and 12 inches including the fringe at the bottom. Approx 7 3/4inches accross widest point. Oval center with honey gold glass bead and golden sequin border. The cloth background is sewn with raised florettes of roses and budding foliage. Surrounding the coral bead date- 1911- is a pair of cats/ monkeys with raised green backs. Above these are small scurrying wild animals or beavers/ otters in clear and golden beads with tiny black eyes and red noses. Antique American Early 19th Century Sully Gold Gilded Frame
This is a great-shaped antique early 19th-century Sully gold gilded frame. It dates circa 1820s. Overall. It measures 17 3/8" x 18 3/8" 44.13 cm x 46.67 cm) The back opening size is 12" x 13" 30.48 cm x 33.02 cm) It has substantial width at 3" 7.62 cm) As you can see in the photos. There is a lot of damage to the left side of the molding. There is also wear along the inner site edge of the frame, with the white gesso showing in places. There is chipping along most of the exterior of the frame molding. It does have a number of pluses. It has its original ring hook on the back. It has hand forged nails. It has that wonderful yellow paint on the sides that was used during this period. And it has great lines. It has what I believe to be the original glass. Which is very wavy and has numerous bubbles. This beaded frame is lovely- the beavers, flowers, and oak leaves are so detailed and colorful, and the bead work and individual beads are just amazing. From my own research, I have found that this frame was most likely made by Iroquois Indians in upstate New York- most likely the Saratoga area. The photograph of the Japanese woman in Kimono- possibly wedding Kimono- is unknown to be original to the frame. The photo was printed in Japan. AMERICANA Antique Feather Work of an American Eagle with Shield Old Frame UNIQUE
Up for sale is a VERY unique piece of Americana. This is a antique feather work picture depicting an American Eagle in flight with a American Flag and Shield. This has been in my family for years. So I know for a fact it is quite old. The only one I'm able to find like this is on an antique website and if you search feather work eagle you will find it, as I did. It is from the late 1800's from what my aunt told my mother and that date coincides with what I can find online. It measures 9 1/2" x 7 1/2" for the inner picture and 12 3/4" x 10 1/2" for the outer frame. There is some slight fading on the black paper and feathers, but that is what light will do over time. The frame has some slight damage and spotting, I try to show that in the pictures. I took the pictures without the glass in the frame except for the ... morelast one so you can"really" see it without the glare. Antique oval frame/American Eagle & Federal Shield at top/Patriotic Folk Art
A cool and unusual antique oval frame topped off with an American Eagle and Federal Shield. I would say this dates to the late 1800s to the very early 1900s. The frame and backing are brass in color- they are magnetic so my guess is that there is a brass wash over them. The eagle and shield are not magnetic and I think they are brass. Overall size is about 22" high and 14" wide. Image area is about 20" by 14. Condition is as found and as shown. Frame has not been cleaned in a million years so there is a dark patina over the brass wash. Eagle and shield show natural age patina- shield has both red and blue paint. With some minor loss to red. The back of the frame is missing the two metal tabs on the right side that hold the backing in place. Please look at all photos to get the best idea of quality and condition. This is a pair of beautiful late Victorian oval frames with bubble glass and featuring American flags. Both frames are in very good condition except one of the original bubble glass is broken straight across the middle. There are some small chips on the paint and there are chips out of two of the flagpoles( on the same frame) None of these blemishes detract from the beauty of the frames. c1840 Outstanding AMERICAN GRAIN PAINTED Pa Folk Primitive FRAKTUR Antique Frame
This is an excellent c1840 American grain painted frame. Good fiery. Bright paint.so many of these have darkened but this one has great bright colors. Typical swirled graining done to imitate the best mahogany of the time. Excellent paint retention, minor wear and mitered corners with cut nails. M easures 12 1/2 x 16 1/2 with a 10 1/2 x 14 1/2 rabbet. Great looking early American fr ame with a million uses. Tough to find. Please email with any questions. Antique Newcomb Macklin Stanford White design 16x18 American Art picture frame
This is an antique. Late 1800's/ early 1900's Newcomb Macklin picture frame from a local estate. It features Stanford White design grill-work decoration, with gilded surface. It measures 22 5/8" x 24 5/8" overall, with 3 3/4" wide x 1 3/4" deep heavy milled wood construction(15 1/2" x 17 1/2" sight opening, with 16 3/8" x 18 3/8" rabbet opening) The outer edge surfaces are hand carved, giving the side profile a finely rippling surface. All original uncleaned condition, with only expected signs of normal age. Rock-solid construction. This is a great frame. It displays beautifully! Perfect for an important American painting. IT has TWO photos. A Man and a Woman. It has a glass covering the photos. IT is NOT new.
