I would have thought this fine old kiln-fired enamel box was English. Perhaps Bilston, but in fact it is French in origin and is a larger size bonboniere or bonbon box. A white enamel ground trimmed out in navy blue, with floral bouquets surrounding the bulbous bottom half and a charming pair of lovers depicted up top on the lid. Some roughness of age showing on the bottom rim, where it's rubbed surfaces over time, but no chips or cracks or other flaws to note on this fine pot-like box. Nicely fitted, the top fits perfectly and closes snug and tight, yet is easily opened. I've written time and again about how difficult this process is. One'paints' on the enamel powders which are suspended in a liquid medium that aids in application, but all of the colors are muddy mauve, grey, taupe and blues and nothing at all like the colors that emerge once the kiln has melted the enamel powders into the thick glassine finish that some mistake for porcelain. The work is done on a metal plaque, or in this case, a copper or brass forming the bottom and the top of this box. The artist is apprenticed for years and years before he/she is adept enough at this arduous and painstaking process to eventuate a finished product like the one we have here. Quite unique, different from many of the enameled boxes we've had over time, and all the more wonderful for its differences. Beautiful Kiln Fired French Enamel Opera Glasses
These are a beautiful pair of La Duchesse opera glasses. Made in Paris France, circa 1900. The brass has a beautiful aged patina, and the body is a gorgeous kiln fired enamel, with a lovely pink background, with flowers and Dragon Flies. The eye pieces are crowned in Mother of Pearl, with the La Duchesse, Paris mark on each one. The glass has no cracks and the optics are great, The lenses raise by the Mother of Pearl wheel in the center. Many of these opera glasses come without a handle, but these have a lovely handle, which folds flat against the glasses when not in use, and rotates out for the lady to use to lift them to her eyes. There is one small dent in the brass around one glass on the bottom, but other than that small dent, these opera glasses are in great shape for their age, and have been lovingly taken care of. It is a portrait of"Princess de Lamballe" Who was Queen Marie-Antoinette's best friend. Princess de Lamballe lived in the 18th century but during the 19th century she has been painted as Queen Marie-Antoinette. It is signed P. Chartier. Velvet and copper frame. It is in nice antique condition. There was a crack in the enamel on the top right in the yellow. It has been repaired by a professional, it is invisible even under the magnifying glass. Antique French Limoges Enamel on copper Plaque- Portrait of St. Augustine. By Mettie E. Webb, dated 1-5-05 We are pleased to present this lovely French Limoges enamel painted plaque of St. Augustine. The enamel painting utilizes the earlier'grisaille' or grey tone on black style along with the colored enamels on foil technique which was a little later. Also highlighted by a trace amount of gold gilding on the edge of the helmet and used in signing the artist's name and date. The handsome portrait of the man is very well executed by the artist. Mettie E. Webb. We were fortunate in having found this piece along with bits of information that helps us with knowing what the title of the painting was as well as the artist name and date on the front. The remnants of the label attached to the backside reads: No. 73/ LIGHT(I) St. Augustin(e) ... moreBequeathed by METTIE E. WEBB" Please see photos. The plaque is framed in its original decorated frame of gesso wood with a tooled leather liner. Please refer to the photos for the details of the frame and portrait. The backside is worn, faded and has had earlier repairs to the hinge stand. Measurements: The plaque itself measures approximately 5 inches in height x 3 3/4 inches in width. The framed image is approximately 10 inches x 8 1/2 inches. Condition: The enamel plaque is in very good condition with only slight wear to some of the gilding on the helmet. No Chips. Cracks, scratches or repairs or restorations were noted. The frame is another issue in itself. The gesso wood trim surrounding the portrait has a 3/4 inch piece missing. This trim is cracked in several places but the pieces are pretty much still intact. There are small chips and flakes around the edges of the frame as well. The silk material backside is worn and faded. The hinge stand has been repaired earlier, but is again in need of some attention. These are absolutely STUNNING French opera glasses that I have had displayed with a large French doll until recent times. It is now time for them to find a new home. They measure across in diameter approximately 10cm(4" at their widest point. They stand in height approximately 7cm(3 3/4" with the lenses in. They were produced in France although there are no markings. They have been enameled in porcelain and are a vivid blue. Then they have been handpainted with delicate flowers and beading. They have been dated to Circa 1880 or earlier. The outer parts of the glasses are made from brass with mother of pearl at the end of the lenses as well as in the centre to turn the lenses up or down. These are priced extremely cheaply as there is damage on one side(see photo) I have been told this can be repaired but never bothered with researching ... morewhere to get this done as I loved them as they were and the damage could not be seen when they were on display. Welcome to Antiques& Moore! This listing is for a STUNNING 19th Century French enamel miniature sleigh with gilt runners and a gilded eagle mounted on the front. Measures 4 1/2" long. 2 1/4" high and 1 7/8" wide. Both the interior and exterior on the sleigh are elaborated decorated with fine enameled designs. The exterior is a deep ruby red with gilt embellishments and is decorated with a courting scene on each side. The interior is completely decorated with a landscape scene that includes a lake with a garden in the foreground and part of a castle with mountains in the background. This entire scene is done in beautiful pastel colors. This stunning miniature sleigh is absolutely fabulous! The details in the enamel work. The gilt design and structure of the runners and mounting of the eagle in front that appears as if in ... moreflight combine to make an elaborate work of art. The overall condition is exceptional. There are a couple of very fine stress lines in the enamel just behind the back curve of the sleigh that are only noticed with magnification. There is also an area where the body of the sleigh is mounted to the runners that has a very minor amount of missing enamel. This area looks original and the mounting is perfect. However, this tiny area of lost enamel may indicate that at some time this mounting was modified. This is mentioned for accuracy as there is no visible sign of any repair just the unexplaned tiny area of missing enamel. Looking at the incredible painting on the inside of the sleigh and at the beautifully enameled exterior body. This miniature is totally exquisite! It's hard to believe that there is not a signature somewhere on this elaborately enameled piece but we find no signature. This type work was done in several European countries in the mid to late 1800s including France. Austria and Italy. Description: A superb antique French Napoleon III era enamel and gilt bronze jewelry casket. Adorned with five enamel on copper panels of a gorgeous Sevres'Celeste' blue accented by a jeweled border of raised white enamel dots and gilt accents. Each panel is centered by a painted floral cluster of pale pink roses and blue flowers. Likely forget-me-nots. A charming bouquet, beautifully detailed and the colors are stunning against the vibrant blue background. Such vibrant colors and amazing detail is quite difficult to achieve in the art of fire-kiln enamel on copper. As is typical of these pieces, the enameling was likely by one of the master enamellists of Sevres, similar to Bresson enamels with raised jeweled dots and the quality of Limoges enamels. Perhaps Bilston, but in fact it is French in origin and is a larger size bonboniere or bonbon box. A white enamel ground trimmed out in navy blue, with floral bouquets surrounding the bulbous bottom half and a charming pair of lovers depicted up top on the lid. Some roughness of age showing on the bottom rim, where it's rubbed surfaces over time, but no chips or cracks or other ... moreflaws to note on this fine pot-like box. Nicely fitted, the top fits perfectly and closes snug and tight, yet is easily opened. I've written time and again about how difficult this process is. One'paints' on the enamel powders which are suspended in a liquid medium that aids in application, but all of the colors are muddy mauve, grey, taupe and blues and nothing at all like the colors that emerge once the kiln has melted the enamel powders into the thick glassine finish that some mistake for porcelain. The work is done on a metal plaque, or in this case, a copper or brass forming the bottom and the top of this box. The artist is apprenticed for years and years before he/she is adept enough at this arduous and painstaking process to eventuate a finished product like the one we have here. Quite unique, different from many of the enameled boxes we've had over time, and all the more wonderful for its differences. I am offering for sale an exquisite French enamel box. From, I'm guessing, the late eighteenth or early nineteenth century. It is tiny- only an inch and a half in circumference and an inch tall- and wonderfully-detailed. The top shows a young French girl with a sickle and roses, and the bottom is painted with a farmhouse and lake. The inside of the box is copper. It is in amazing shape, with, as far as I can see, no nicks or chips to the enamel. The first photograph, if you zoom in, makes it look as though there's a scratch, but when you look at the box with the naked eye, this is not visible. At least not to this naked eye!

It stands 5 1/8 inches tall is 2 3/8 inches in diameter at the base and 1 3/4 inches in diameter at the mouth. The vase is in good condition with some cracking visible on the inside of the vase and one very faint crack that I have tried my best to picture. Large Pair Antique Enamel French Opera Glasses NO RESERVE
This is an old pair of opera glasses from a local estate. The measure 4 ¾ inches wide. And 3 13/16 inches long(5 inches long when extended) The pearl eyepieces are not broken or cracked. The glass lenses are a little dusty, but have no cracks or chips. The 2 metal rims around the large bottom lenses have some dents. The porcelain is light blue, with some white at the top& bottom. Enamel floral paintings on both sides, and stars in the fields. The porcelain is in very good condition, with a few small, fine hairlines just above the large lenses. The hairlines are not easily seen without a magnifier. There are some small glass half circle buttons missing from the borders(looks like they were only glued in place originally) There is no signature or markings on this piece, but I feel sure from the style that it is made in France. This exquisite object d'art has 360 degree. Hand-painted pastel colored, enameled scenes of a mother and a young child in an outdoor setting. These opera glasses or binoculars have a mother of pearl adjusting disk. The tops of the lenses are also made of mother-of-pearl and are engraved on one side'San Francisco' and on the other"Mrs. Lux" They measure 4" x 3" It is very interesting to note that nearly all of these types of binoculars were made in Europe and most in France or Austria where the best enamelers were found. We suspect that these were French made. But custom ordered for a Mrs. Lux through a high-end San Francisco shop. That information alone adds a rarely found dimension to this very beautiful and practical accessory of another era. The metal is gilt bronze or brass alloy. 19th C French Lidded Bronze Blu Celeste Sevres Tahan Style Enamel Jewelry Casket
Here we have a really beautiful 1830-1860 French lidded bronze& blue celeste sevres Tahan style enamel jewelry casket. This wonderful little jewelry casket has damage on the top plaque and we are listing it in as-is condition. The plaque on the lid has chips with loss of enamel. Hairline cracking and missing jewels. It is adorned with five bleu celeste enamel on copper convex plaques each decorated in a floral motif with black& heavy gilt accents. The center of each plaque is accented with raised jewel enamel beads in white. Red and green. All of the plaques have red jewels in the corners. The lid, front& back plaques each have green center side jewels. The lid is the largest plaque and it is framed on the outer edge by white enamel pearl beads. There is decorative boarders in the bronze around each plaque and this jewelry casket ... moresits on four finely cast bronze Rococo feet. The original period padded silk satin interior liner is present but it is a bit tattered. This piece measures 105mm(4 1/8" wide. 76mm(3" deep, 70mm(2 3/4" tall and is very much in the style of Tahan of Paris. The side plaques on this jewelry casket are in much better condition than the top with only one missing jewel and no hairlines. On the front plaque is a small corner chip and a single hairline visible under scrutiny. The back plaque has a few hairlines and a few chipped jewels. There is a heavy patina on the gilt and we cannot say if it can be brought back or not. There is some gilt loss and the bottom appears to be repaired. All deficiencies are mentioned for accuracy rather than detriment. We feel they add charm& authenticity to our items. This is beautiful 19th Century French blue celeste enamel jewelry casket a nd will make a wonderful addition to any collection.
