This piece was made by Henry Salsbury& Co and dates to around the 1830s. The cup is beautifully hand chased with floral and scroll designs. Surrounding a large cartouche on the front. The cup has a nicely scrolled handle, with a leaf form thumbpiece. This piece is in good overall condition. As the photo points out there is an old solder repair to the handle. Both the top and bottom juncture of the handle to the body has been solder repaired. But the upper repair is very hard to notice without close, careful inspection. The lower repair is the one in the photo, and is easier to notice. There has been a monogram removed from the cartouche on the front, but the silver there is still strong and does not flex when pressed on. There are no splits, no leaks, no dents, no monograms, and no repairs. The cup is stamped on the underside with the maker's mark for Henry Salsbury& Co. A New York maker. The cup stands about 4 1/8 inches tall at the highest point. Which is the thumbpiece of the handle. The cup weighs 131 grams or 4.6 regular ounces. jm. Good luck and bid with confidence. The simple enamel leaves, branches and blossoms are hand painted and nicely complement the peach colored interior. The colors are subtle and include two shades of brown(light brown and a darker caramel brown) gray, black, two shades of reddish pink, and a clean opaque yellow. The handle has gold in the flutes between the ribs along the expanded cyst that forms the lower terminal attachment. The end result of the two colors of translucent glass along with the hand painted decoration and the simple hand blown shape make this cup both attractive and appealing. LOVELY 1893 World's Fair Blue Mary Gregory Glass Mug Cup
Here is a rare and wonderful antique souvenir from the 1893 World's Fair in Chicago. It is a lovely blue blown glass handled cup or mug with Mary Gregory white paintings of a child on one side. It is etched with"World's Fair 1893" on one side of the handle and"Nellie Johnson" on the other; obviously the proud original owner of this gem. The etchings are a bit difficult to see in the photos. But are just fine in person. The cup is 3 1/2 inches tall and 2 1/2 inches in diameter across the top. The top of of the rim has gold paint that is only worn in one small spot; there are a few very, very minute nicks to that rim that are really negligible. This Mary Gregory glass mug is amber in color with a boy depicted on the front. It is hand blown and 4 5/8 inches high. It is 3 ¼ inches in diameter at the widest point not including the handle. The handle is applied. One thing odd is that the handle has a chunk out of it. It is not a chip but had to be done intentionally. We are not sure about the purpose. ANTIQUE 1880's BLOWN MILK GLASS REMEMBER ME VINTAGE VICTORIAN HAND PAINTED MUG A very pretty. 1880's, Victorian blown milk glass mug with an applied handle and hand painted. There is a rough pontil on the bottom and, when held to a light, has a lovely orange colored glow. It measures approximately 4 1/4" high x 3 1/2" in diameter at the top(not including the handle) and 2 3/8" in diameter at the base. The glass is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. There is not much wear to the handpainted flowers but the" Forget me not" is very worn(see photo) This is a very lovely, antique, Victorian blown milk glass and hand painted mug to add to any collection.
