A Victorian blown soda glass tavern rummer/liqueur. Circa 1870-80's. It is 8.75cms in height by 3cms across the rim. With a foot measurement of 3.75cms, the bowl is 4cms in depth, all approx. The condition is very good, with usage commensurate with age. The bowl has engraved on it Dick Hudson- Property of Elowick.

With fairly heavy wear to the base and rim, as you would expect. It is not chipped or cracked. But there is an odd mark in the glass above the moulding which is from a fault in the mould- certainly it was made that way and it is not later damage. Lovely shape. very tactile. 8437 Victorian Tavern Rummer Description A mid 19th century Victorian tavern rummer dating around 1860. It is of tough soda glass. Usual for this type of ware which needed to be hard wearing. It is of typical form with a U shaped bowl and slightly tapering thick stem. The foot is conical and the pontil is rough snapped. This type of glass was commonly in use in pubs and taverns throughout the 19th century. Some were also used domestically as general purpose glasses. As they are generally quite tough. They are good to use today and reasonably inexpensive for an antique glass. Condition Good order with just some minor wear. Small captured air bubble to the foot and some minor mineral inclusions. 19th C VICTORIAN HEAVY PRESSED RUMMER GLASS This is a heavy 5.8" high rummer which dates from the Victorian times. The top diameter is 3.25" and the base the same. I t was press moulded in 4 sections.The moulded decoration are printies(thumb print shapes) and a beaded section underneath. It is in very good condition. Complete with imperfections, air bubbles and striations all characteristic of glass manufactured at the time. 9005 Early Press Moulded Rummer Description An early press moulded glass rummer dating around 1845. A nice example of a glass very early in the history of machine press moulding. It was made in a 3 part mould and the mould lines are partly visible. These early moulded examples are heavier than had made equivalents and tend to copy similar designs of the period. They were also often hand finished to remove some of the flaws associated with press moulding. A number of designs from this early period exist. But they are fairly limited, probably as the number of factories producing by this method was relatively small at the time. They are also much scarcer than free blown period examples! A set of six good quality Antique late Victorian large rummers. They are cut in the Anglo Irish style from around 1800 but date much later circa 1890. The stems have disc knops and the feet are slightly conical with rough snapped pontils. They are hand made and hand cut and are well crafted and would have been expensive items in their day. They are fine for use today and would make good multi-purpose glasses. They would be suitable as large wine glass goblets. Probably best for red wine, the design would also suit some spirits such as whisky, and they would also make good water goblets. Capacity: just over 400 ml per glass. Please note that due to their hand made nature there are slight differences between the glasses.
