This is a great piece in gorgeous glowing tiger oak. The drawer pulls are a nice old brass square design. Interestingly. This piece is marked"MACEY Sectional Bookcases Fred Macey Co LTD Grand Rapids, Mich. Patent dates are in the early 1900's. Note: There is a great website on Fred Macey Furniture. If you do a search for"Furniture City History and Fred Macey you will find it. Research dates this desk at 1908 per a great website put out by the"Furniture City Historical Society" Here is a portion on furniture markings of Fred Macey that match this item: MARKS AND LABELS Pieces produced before 1908 may carry the name“Fred Macey Furniture Co. or simply“Macey” in an italic script. With the tail of the let“Y” underlining much of the word. Pieces produced after 1908 will bear a modified version of the earlier mark, with“Macey” in simpler script, surrounded by a black or solid colored oval. Nicely refinished. This piece stands 71" tall and is 34 1/2" wide and 16 1/2" deep. Great wrought iron corner band details. Hardware looks original or at least antique Arts& Crafts. The large front desk folds down to create a nice wide work surface. Hinges lock for a solid flat surface. Perfect for a laptop. Four separate stacks with this bookcase-a graduated unit with 3 different sizes. Note the top unit has a leaded glass door. Original labels on the interior and nice leopard bands on the sides. Super finish which is smooth and even. The interior height of the units is 13.5. 11.5, and two which are 9.5. The overall size of the piece is 34 wide, 12 deep, and 57.5 high. I don't think you will find a nicer four stack unit. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. Up for auction is a what I believe is a Weis Barrister Bookcase desk organizer. This organizer is 33"10/16" long x 13.5" tall and 11" deep. Desk organizer is in fantastic shape except for a sliver of wood missing from the back bottom(pictured) A piece of period molding is easily added to the back on both sides to hide the defect. Easy to make a campaign desk or wall desk out of this beautiful piece with some front legs(screw desk to wall. So all you need are two from legs) or add a pair of cast iron and or Oak corbels to support the desk. In any case this will be a beautiful desk when you complete.
