This piece is from Korea and is about 20 or so years old. The exterior design was handcrafted by a Korean artisan who cut each piece of mother of pearl and abalone shell to create the likeness of a peacock surrounded by a blooming bouquet of flowers and butterflies. Please note that the color of the mother of pearl changes depending on the light source- when under natural light. It has a silvery iridescent glow and under interior lighting(incandescent bulb) it has an amber glow. The entire piece is made out of wood painted with a black lacquer finish. The interior is wood also(unpainted) I believe pine, but I'm not exactly sure(it's definitely NOT particle board, though) and it features 2 separate sections(left& right) each with different smaller compartments inside, the details of which are described below. There are 2 sliding doors to access the right and left side and it does have a lock, but I no longer have the key. The size of the entire armoire is 7ft(L) x 6.25ft(H) x 2.25ft(D) approx. It disassembles into 6 major pieces(if I'm not mistaken) top section. 2 sliding doors, bottom section, left section and right section. The top section holds the entire piece together. East Coast Company 2 vintage Armoires/ Wardrobes Made in South Africa These mid century armoires were handmade and purchased in South Africa and brought to the USA by my in-laws. We know the light wood is pecan and believe the darker wood is mahogany from Honduras. Each unit measures approximately 48" wide. 72" high and 24" deep. They both are the same size, it is the wall behind them that is uneven. The unit on the left has built in drawers and small mirror on door, the unit on right has large mirror and shelving with contact paper that was installed at a later date. The poles for hanging clothes are still on top. There are two keys, one for each unit. The bottom four drawers have key holes and lock as well. It was part of their bedroom set, but for the past few years have been stored in the basement. There is some discoloration ... moreand peeling issues that have been photographed. There is also adhesive residue where someone taped them during a move. Still a great solid well made set. They are available for pick up only at Manomet Point in Plymouth Massachusetts. Has some minor flaws that could be ignored or repaired. Top is missing some veneer and abrasion to back corner. One piece of trim needs glue. There are 2 Wardrobes, Each Wardrobe is 2 pieces, with the clothes bar in the top units. In the bottom unit, one has 3 small drawers and 2 large drawers. The other has 3 small drawers and 2 doors that open for storage. There is minor wear on both( could be touched up easily) but the inlay is perfect. They have wonderful ormolu mounts. Exquisite marquetry decoration and are surmounted with beautiful specimen marble plaques. Each cabinet has an amazing pair of marquetry doors. Each door has three panels and each central panel has an elaborate marquetry of flowers, birds and butterflies, whereas the other panels have exquisite inlaid decoration. The sides of the cabinets are ebonised and have panels of floral marquetry with parrots and butterflies on a rosewood background. The inside of the doors have fabulous coromandel borders with panels of musical instrument and floral marquetry. On rosewood and burr walnut backgrounds. Blouse, Skirt and Culottes(1980's) 8438 Misses' Evening Dress and Jacket(1970s) 1970's and 1980's Envelope Descriptions: 8438: V-neckline halter dress in four lengths has shaped midriff and slightly flared skirt. With or without self ruffling or contrast notched collar. Loose-fitting jacket. Lined to edge, has full length sleeves. 9887: Loose-fitting, hiplength jacket has notched collar, front-buttoned closing, patch pockets, side back seams(no side seams) shoulder pads and full-length sleeves. Loose-fitting, pullover blouse with front and back gathered into narrow bias neckband extending into tie ends(front also gathered to back at shoulders) has front inset band and full-length sleeves gathered at cap and into buttoned cuffs. Culottes, three inches(7.5cm) below mid-knee ... moreor evening length and skirt, three inches(7.5cm) below mid-knee, have front and back gathered into waistband, pockets in side seams and back zipper closing. Loose-fitting. Unlined A-line coat in three lengths, has notched collar, front and back over the bustline seaming, full length sleeves, front zipper closing, patch pockets and topstitch trim. Which add up.they each have a shoe rack.and total of 5 glass shelves.love the glass shelving, a clothes rods in each and three wire basket drawers which can all be configured to your liking. NOW please pay particular attention to this part. If you are NOT familiar with these.they are HUGE! IF you do not have high ceiling or vaulted ceiling you will likely have to take them apart at your end and assemble them in the room.if your ceiling height will accomodate them. They are currently in a room with a cathedral ceiling so they will go right out the door and both will fit side by side on the bed of a full size pick up. You will need ties or bungies and I would bring blankets or pads ... moreto protect both the furniture and the glass. LASTLY but most importantly. I cannot help load.I just had surgery. Father in-law bought this in 1950 for the office they kept papers and files in this it has been in office protected invirornment for more than 60 years. It is made of wood and has roomy side drawers. The wardrobe on the right side has shelves that can accommodate shoes or sweaters. The piece is in very good condition and only has minor wear and tear that would be expected on an antique. There is a slight smudge along the bottom of the door. it is scratched in the wood and can be covered with a fresh coat of paint. 5 drawers and 6 shelves.
