The book has 26 examples. The pages are very thick and have a"window" where the flowers go. Up for bids is a collection of pressed/dried flowers from the December 1. 1951 wedding of Mary Edith Cahoon and Warren Carleton Dole at the Porter Congregational Church in Brockton, Massachusetts. This couple was married for 60 years and both died this year within 4 months of each other. This includes what looks like a wrist corsage, a boutonniere, flowers from the bouquet, 2 white roses, and a bow with tied flowers. Also included are the wedding clippings from the newspaper and the vow cards for the bride and groom. The Doles had no children and were both only children themselves. A Vintage Glass Bowl with Silver Overlay applied to the inside of the bowl depicting flowers and a silver rim in a seashell shape. The Bowl measures 10 1/2" across and is 2 1/2" tall. It does not have a makers mark but the design work is similar to those in the years prior to the depression. This piece does not have any chips. Cracks or fractures and the silver overlay is in good condition for age(see pictues) Some areas of wear of flower overlay as you near the bottom of the bowl. This piece sparkles in a curio cabinet or can be displayed on its own! From 1895 to the late 1920s. This elegant and exciting manifestation of the glassmaker and silversmith’s art garnered its own avid following, just short of becoming ... morea decorative rage. Silver overlay was regarded as an exquisite, special gift or accent for that certain table or shelf. Here is an antique pressed flower and plant collection. The cover is marked HERBARIUM MONARCH SERIES GOODYEAR-MARSHALL PUB. CO. CEDAR RAPIDS. IOWA. This appears to have been a high school project. The inside cover has a name, school and term filled in. It is stamped Examined Jun 3 1909. This has 25 specimens. One page has the plant description(roots, stem, leaves, where its found, etc) and the other has the pressed flower or plant and the scientific information(order, species, common name, locality, and date found) Some specimens include yellow violet, mouse ear, wild bluebell, yellow star grass, myrtle, spring beauty and more. This book features 15 slots for real wild flowers to be inserted and all 15 are in the book, which is rare indeed because the flowers are fragile and not covered with plastic sleeves or anything that would keep them intact. Flowers listed are: Passion Everlasting, Mustard, Cyclamen, Red Lentil, Lily of the Field, Grass, Crown Flower, Golden Clover, Pheasant's Eye, Flax, Cummin, Naidenhair Fern, Pea or bean, Mignonette, and, Puff Ball. To identify the person and the date they collected their specimen, the month, the year, and the town or state it where it was collected; most of them being gathered in New England, with a few towards the end of this folio that were collected on a'mission' to Canada, and a few from Fairfax County in Virginia in the year 1861-1863, this was when the Civil War was raging in the south. Numerous floral specimens were collected during"Summer Term in Ipswich Massachusetts" and all of those specimens were collected by females. Further handwritten notations refer to"Academy Reunion. Nov. 10, 1870, Bessie Grammar" a"Teachers Convention in Newton Corner" Sabbath School in Woburn, etc. Tucked between the pages of this horticultural collection is what appears to be a prize winning ribbon from the'Congregational Fair' with the an image of The Mayflower, Sailed From Plymouth England, Sept. 16, 1620. This presentation of pressed flowers may have been a pink ribbon winner at one of the religious fairs in the Northeast. It would appear that this collection may have been submitted in many showings in New England and elsewhere and credit was given to each and every person who collected and pressed a flower into this gorgeous Victorian era prize willing album. Included in this nice matched group are 10 pressed brass door plates that have a very pretty dainly design of flowers and a bow. They have not been polished or cleaned on the backs. Along with the back plates came 4 mortise locks(no keys came with them) These mortise are thin(about 1/2" thick) and there were also 4 strike plates that were with them when I got them. The charming flowers are under glass. 12 x 3" Very nice condition! Has wire on the back for hanging. But would be very easy to take off. PLEASE SEE MY PHOTOS. THEY ARE PART OF MY DESCRIPTION! Yellow Frosted glass Vintage Ceiling Light Fixture with center drilled hole to hang it. Weighs over 6 pounds and is pressed glass. Great floral patter in clear. 14" square and is about 2 1/2" deep. Plain glass edges have a few tiny chips- fleabites. Some wear on yellow and discoloration- see condition above. This is not perfect. But it is a beauty! A beautiful and rare'Souvenir Album. Flowers from the Holy Land" Editor N. De Simini of Jerusalum. The boards are Olive Wood and the front is carved. Back board has lovely wood grain color. Each page depicts a place/ landmark and then a pressed flower is on the opposite side of the page. 12 places. 11 flowers. Last flower is missing. Each picture is described in 4 languages: Hebrew. English, French and German. Book is in VG condition. No chips, no tears, no writing. All flowers have tissue protecting them.this has been passed down from a family friend and was passed to her in the late 1930's. We will also be offering a Bible of similar design on our site.
