Tiny Japanese MEIJI SATSUMA PORCELAIN Rooster button. This is such a small button. Only Approximately 5/8" Smaller than a dime. The rooster is very detailed and well done. It's like a tiny work of art. The rooster is red with black tail feathers. Gold outlines the whole rooster and depicts the feathers and the beak. The rooster is important in the Japanese culture. Parts of it are believed to exemplify courage and reliability. They are sacred and allowed to roam freely. Even into the temples. The morning calls are believed to call to the Goddess Amaterasu. So this button, even with its small size is important. The button itself is outlined in gold. The background is the typical ivory glaze of the Satsuma button. The back of the button is raised with a hole in it for the shank. Beautiful button in such perfect condition it is difficult ... moreto believe it is as old as it is. Here we have a very unusual. Early 1900's antique ~ BRYANT BRASS& PERKINS PORCELAIN MECHANICAL DOOR, PUSH BUTTON LIGHT SWITCH ~. The top brass plate is Bryant and the mechanical switch portion is signed PERKINS. This high quality Perkins push button switch, would have been installed on the door of a closet or entrance door, so that when the door is open, it automatically turns on a light. It would have been a state of the art item at the time it was invented and made back in the early 1900's. I would imagine that very few homes, would have had such a unique luxury item as this. This is the only one like it that we have ever seen. It came out of a wonderful Victorian mansion in the Historic Old West end of Toledo, Ohio. The brass plate is signed BRYANT UND. LAB INSP. The switch is in, all original, as found, working condition. ... moreIt measures approximately 4 5/8 inches long" the top plate" by 1 1/4 inches wide. The mechanical portion measures about 4 3/8 inches long by 1 1/4 inches wide by 2 5/8 inches deep and weighs just over a pound. This very hard to find unusual mechanical door switch would make a fine addition to any early electric switch collection or would be a great, original period item to use in your Victorian home. It has an NE on each of its buttons and has J.I.P. molded in the porcelain body on the back. My research comes up blank as to the manufacturer. It is mounted in a solid brass plate with brass screws with delightful oxidation. I tested the switch's function and. Due to its age, is intermittent on continuity. May just need a good cleaning and greasing, but in reality, any of these antique electrical devices shouldn't be used in modern day environments since they were only rated for 10 amp loads, the code in those days. Nowadays, switches and receptacles are rated at 15 amps, minimum. Like everything from the early ... more1900's. It is Made in USA! In the late 1960's I removed this from a then soon-to-be demolished Logan Estate mansion along the Delaware River where Neshaminy State Park is now in Bensalem. PA. The 2 others with the spikes just have age wear. There are 11 loose button nails fronts. The white have age wear, scuffs and 1 has a mold flaw& bent. The 2 fancy ones are cracked.
