Online research of other identical ... moreframes suggests that it originally contained a mirror. At some point the mirror was removed and replaced with glass in order to use it as a picture frame. The glass is clearly not original as the closeups of the back will attest. There is some evidence that the gilt border was touched up. Some random distress marks and small white specks can be seen in the closeups. The center of the arch has a couple of very fine cosmetic hairline cracks. There is no back panel.

Antique picture frame from the late Victorian era(1900-1910) The frame has carved edges with a gold inner liner. Also. The decorative rope pattern next to the liner is carved wood, not gesso. The frame is made of a hardwood, probably mahogany. The frame fits an approx 9 1/4 x 11 1/4 inch print or painting. Its exterior dimensions are approx 12 1/2 x 14 1/2 inches and it is 1 1/8 inches high. The frame has been restored, including refinishing of the mahogany and is in very good condition. It still has a few dings, etc as typically seen on frames of this age. It is being shipped without glass.

Old Dark Wood Frame This piece came from a very old estate recently. It's probably mahogany. It's 12" x 14" exterior. Inside opening is 10.75" x 9" It is deep. About 2.5" and the middle inside has a black stripe giving it an even deeper look. Still has some paper on the back from previous use. It's a tiny bit loose if you try hard but it's pretty tight still. Will frame a nice old piece perfectly or maybe for a shadow box. Has wear that can be seen in the close ups. It's just a nice old frame. I'm not an expert in all things so if you have any questions please ask before you bid. Small Antique Mid 19th Century Mahogany Veneer Frame Lemon Gold Gilt Liner
This is a small antique mid-19th century period mahogany or possibly rosewood veneer frame with a lemon gold gilt liner. It dates from around the 1840s to 1850s. And possibly earlier. It has a lovely old finish. But given its age. It has a number of small imperfections. But the overall look is quite beautiful. Overall. The frame measures 6 3/4 inches by 10 9/16 inches(17.2 cm x 26.8 cm) The back opening size is 4 7/8 inches by 8 3/4 inches(12.4 cm x 22.2 cm) The molding width measures 1 5/8 inches(4.3 cm) The frame itself is very thick at 1 3/8 inches(3.5 cm) The issues: there is a slight separation at each of the corners where the wood meets. It has a tiny dent in the top left-hand corner of the frame. It has numerous light scratches on it. But the veneer is fairly thick so they still look dark. There is an approximately 1/4 inch by 1/8 ... moreinch chip in one corner of the frame. Next to it are some dents and small scratches(please see photos) The liner is worn at places and the gray is showing through. It has half of the original hanging piece on the back. But is missing the ring part. You can see the sheets of gilding on the liner. The liner has a tiny chip in one corner and two in another corner(please see photos) I believe there was glass at the front. Then something sitting in it, and then a back to keep it in place, forming a shadowbox(please see photo) The back itself is made deep by an additional layer of wood attached to it. I've secured the liner in place with frame staples. It has its original wavy and bubbled glass. But it has some scratches and scuff marks to it. It would be great for an old oil painting. Drawing, folk art work, sampler, fraktur, silhouette, etc. It weighs just over 1 pound(454 g) It has what I always look for in frames. That wonderful old world look! Antique 19th C Wood Frame Mahogany Empire Ogee Style approx 10 x 14 1/4"
Up for auction is an antique early 19th C mahogany wood frame recently found at auction in the suburban Philadelphia PA area. All corners need regluing in a vice but should meet up fairly nicely when done and will hold art approx 10 x 14 1/4" May be a European sizing actually, not sure. The frame is not quite 1 3/4" and the rabid is 3/16" and shows signs of having held a canvas originally. Please see photo 4 for a close up of its primary loss. 19th C Mahogany Alligator Finish 2" Wood Frame holds 15.5x20.5" art mirror
Up for auction is a 19th C 1860's- 1890's possibly English wood that we believe to be mahogany. With what we believe to be its original finish now alligatored and lovely, frame recently found at auction in the suburban Philadelphia PA area. It holds art or a mirror in more of a European sizing, not exactly 15.5x20.5" The rabid is 3/8" so would accomodate a 1/2" canvas if needed but would need to be custom made. This would look great with any painting or mirror with lovely distressing and only minor scratches that would be an easy touch up. The corners feel quite sturdy. We believe it originally to have been used vertically as the holes are for larger eye hooks, more typical of that period. A solid frame. Best of luck in bidding. Antique Wood Oval Mahogany (?) Picture Mirror Frame 34 x 27~ Handmade~ Post 1940
Beautiful old antique oval frame made with love. The previous owner told me that this frame was made by her grandfather for her grandmother and at that time had placed a mirror in it for her. Post 1940 and originally from West Virginia. Later when the granddaughter inherited it. The mirror was gone so she added a cloth covered plywood board with pegs for hanging her jewelry. She was uncertain as to the type of wood and I believe it to be mahogany. Recently acquired. I have removed the board(save for the wood peg at the back base of the frame. Therefore there are small nail holes on the inside of the frame from where the board was attached. Still has two brass plate hangers on back. The frame has signs of age and use and only tiny separation at two joints. Still a lovely frame that would accentuate any mirror or portrait added. Measures approx. ... more34x27 and is has 2" width. Measures 15 1/4 wide inches by 13 inches tall by 3 1/2 inches deep. For a 10 inch by 8 inch picture. Does have some gold paint missing with some wearing but for it's age. It's in very good condition. Has some carving on each side, bottom and top of the frame shown in the 3rd photo. I was told that this is made out mahogany wood by a carpenter in the cabinet business for I do not know my woods that well. VERY NICE!

Here is a beautiful antique picture frame. Made out of either mahaganoy or walnut wood. It has hand-carved vines and leaves on the inner and outside front molding, and a inner slip molding of gilded gesso. The carvings have worn areas, which indicates its age and handling over the last 100 + years. The entire frame measures 14 3/8 x 16 3/4 ins. The insert rabbet is 10 x 12 ins. The molding is 2 7/8 ins. almost 3 ins. wide.The frame is in fair/good vintage condition with a chip of wood off the top edge, that has been re-stained at some point. Some minor nicks to the wood, some leftover whitish paint at the bottom of the frame, unseen from the front. I am sure it can be cleaned off. The frame is solid and sturdy. A gorgeous. Old watercolor provides a beautiful and perfect background for this WWI soldier's portrait. The painting features a glorious, waving, American flag with the American eagle at the top. No visible names or marks, but this is a special piece and it is impeccably accomplished. The frame is mahogany with gold stripe pattern and the picture is behind convex glass. The soldier is wearing a U.S. military uniform from the WWI era. His portrait has been enhanced with watercolor background. The backing is old and looks original. We have not removed or disturbed to check for names. It is in very good condition with some minor scuffs to the frame which can be easily resolved. This is a beautiful handmade antique picture frame. I believe it is made of pine and mahogany wood. The turnings were made then drilled for assembly. The turnings are very small and intricate. Lots of attention to detail and very time consuming to build. ThIs is a beautiful and unusual antique mahogany veneer picture frame from 1892. The frame is 18 1/4" x 14 1/8" and is 1" deep. The finish is original with heavy laquer and has a little wear on the back edges as pictured. But overall in amazing condition. This frme was made by Wheeler-Hudson Company in Boston in 1892. These frames were only made for around 10 months, by the company. My Grandfather bought the frame and several others in September 1892, and it was in my family ever since. This picture frame is about 11-1/2 inches in diameter on the outside and about 10 inches diameter on the inside.
