It's an excellent fascimile of an antique Art Nouveau frame. Made of solid cast iron in a natural browned shade. Lovely detail. The condition is very good and sturdy, however it's missing it's glass and backing. This sale is for the frame only. On the top of the back, there is some surface rust. On the top of the front, there is what might be the beginning of it(oxidation darkening) but this really doesn't detract from the overall great looks of this piece because it coordinates with the natural color of the frame anyway. Here is a very Ornate and Elegant Century-Old Picture/ Mirror Frame made by the National Brass& Iron Works. The frame is stamped"N.B& I.W" on the reverse. Along with the designation"2902" This is a Large and Heavy frame, measuring 13 1/2" x 9" with a photo/ mirror size of 6 3/4" x 4 3/4" Material is Cast Iron with Gilt Finish. N.B. I.W. was established in Reading, Pennsylvania in 1891, and specialized in the manufacture of fine brass and iron items until it went out of business in 1911. This example is in Excellent Condition. There are no cracks, breaks, or other damage. The swing out kickstand leg perfectly supports the frame as intended, but it could also be wall-mounted. The original frame had screws and bent wires to hold in the photo at the back. This one has pins and tabs which indicates that it is a reproduction of that old frame. Still a vintage reproduction at that and very attractive. I saw an original of this frame at an antique store this week and you cannot tell the difference from the front. Approximately 1890s to 1910s. It measures 12 3/4 inches tall by 9 1/4 inches wide overall(32.4 cm x 23.5 cm) The back opening size is 6 inches x 4 1/4 inches(15.3 cm x 10.8 cm) I'm not sure where it was made and what the different decorations symbolize. On the back base is stamped Pat. Pend. There is a removable piece of metal on the back that holds the picture to the glass. The glass could be replaced.it is very roughly cut. But can't be seen from the front. Measures approximately 5¾" tall and base is 5½" wide. The picture area is approximately 3½" x 4¼" tall. Frame is in good condition. Very heavy Victorian brass or gilded cast iron mirror. 12 1/4” x 9 3/8” overall, the beveled mirror itself 6 1/2” x 4 1/2” sight size. The frame is an ornate asymmetrical arrangement of leafy veined scrolls; the border of the glass is beaded. Swing-out stand at the bottom of the back is firm and secure, and so are the pieces that hold the mirror and backing in place. Embossed“12-4" and“VM” on the back(see picture) Excellent condition except on the back of the mirror you can see a chip in the corner- it is not at all visible in the front. Mirror itself is in very good condition only a few very tiny and light scratches that can be found under close scrutiny. Heavy 2 lbs and 5.3 oz. This cast iron frame has an ornate, floral design surrounding the bevel glass insert. The cast iron portion of the frame has a brass or gilt colored paint on it. The metal back of the frame is held in by four screws and there is a loop for the frame to hang on a wall. The back of the frame is marked, 669, Patd, and"June 19, 94. The frame measures approximately 15" tall, 10" wide, 2 1/4" deep. It fits a picture or mirror approximately 71/2" by 10 1/2" That is what the glass measures approximately as well.
