Old ITALIAN HAND CARVED WOOD, gilt picture/porcelain/painting FRAME from IT
HAND CARVED WOOD FRAME ITALY This sale is for an elaborate gilt wood hand carved frame from Italy. I placed a picture inside just to show you how this ornate frame will look with your painting. Porcelain, photograph or print. The hand carvings are a leaf motif and protrude out from the front of the frame in such beautiful detail. I don't see any chips, damage or repairs. Towards the inner part of the frame there is another very nice continuous beaded pattern. I do notice that the corners have slight separation but this is normal with aging and also a characteristic of a hand made frame. There is a lovely impressed design on the outer part of the frame and another carved line dot pattern. The frame has its original patina of rich dark gilt gold. There is a nice triangular hook for hanging. The frame is approximately 11" square. There ... moreis a wood ledge on the underneath side original to the frame, This is perfect to lay your painting, porcelain, print, photograph or glass for protection. The opening is 17.5 cm or approximately 6.9" square. This quality frame is an Italian work of art in very good aged condition with little wear.

The back frame measures 20" x 17" The inner frame measures 17" x 12 1/2" It is embellished with what seems like carved scrolls out of the same piece of wood that has been painted with gold. These two frames are attached by hinges at the bottom and chains at the top. I am not sure what kept these two pieces attached at the top originally. But they are kept together by velcro. This is oil on velvet, stretched across wood and framed up top and bottom with INTRICATELY carved wooden pediments, with a subtle gold paint, appears to be all original. Just gorgeous! I see NO flaws, unless, as stated above, there is any flaking of the paint, I am uncertain because of this being painted on a textured velvet, it could all be original, otherwise if it did flake at all, it would be very minor and isn't showing threat of continuing to flake. This picture frame measures 13 1/2" x 15 1/2" with a rabbet opening on back measuring 10" x 12" and is 2" wide x 2 1/4" deep(NOTE: this frame can be oriented in either direction depending on your subject matter. I believe from my research this is the painting company. The picture has been hand painted and laid on a very nice wood perhaps glued on. This is really a special one. A large frame made for a 36 x 30 inches painting(I acquired the frame with a painting that I am selling separately and it fit perfectly) A stunning hand carved wood frame with outstanding craftsmanship. Measuring 4 inches wide all the way around. It is in excellent condition with just a few very minor losses to the finish. Really a wonderful example. The back corners all have the signature splines of all the large and top tier Newcomb Macklin frames. It also has the original writing along the top back that is what you find on these frames. It gives the size and also the finish as#452. A wonderful finish of gold and red and beige ... morethat is really complimentary and would go with any worthy painting.
