Vintage gilt fan shaped shadow box picture frame with civil war fan
This 50+ year old wooden frame measures 29 1/2" long 17 1/2" wide. 2 3/4" deep This is in very good condition and has been well taken care of. The civil war fan belonged to my family and was found in the 1960's in an old trunk in the attic in Erie. Pa. I am not sure of the material that the fan is made of. The fabric is in good condition. There is some separation due only to the age of the piece. I think it is silk. The colors are still vibrant and there is not any fading. The large fan has butterflies made out of gold thread. This picture frame measures 13 1/2" x 15 1/2" with a rabbet opening on back measuring 10" x 12" and is 2" wide x 2 1/4" deep(NOTE: this frame can be oriented in either direction depending on your subject matter. The frame is really large and measures 25.25"x21.25" and is 3" wide. The civil war era frame has a very patriotic feel to it with gesso flags and crests. Painted tiger wood. The frame is extremely sturdy and well made and in very good condition. The picture is on a silk canvas and looks to be done in some type of chalk or pastel. The picture has one small mark up in the right hand corner. The print is gorgeous and crystal clear. I had trouble photographing due to the glare of the glass front. Both the glass and frame have some small white flecks of paint on this. Here is a very large. Quite heavy antique walnut picture frame, circa 1860s. It measures 29 x 33 ins. in total size, and the insert rabbet for your art or mirror is 22 3/16 x 26 3/16, a 22 x 26 item should fit fine in here. The molding is about 4 ins. wide and it is a deep well with painted black ebonized lines on the surround. The frame is in FAIR as is antique condition, with some minor scrapes, scratches, some inner gilt gesso chipped off the slip liner, some black ebonized lines wearing away, and some miter corner separations. It is fairly sturdy, but could be stabilized further by re-gluing. It has a bit of old whitish paint at one side back corenr, unseen from the front and coudl probably be cleaned off if it bothers you. Please be aware this frame is approx. 1t is about 150+ years old. So will not be perfect like a new repro one. RARE ANTIQUE PICTURE PRE CIVIL WAR ERA AMBROTYPE PICTURE WITH ORIGINAL FRAME
FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION IS A PRE CIVIL WAR ERA AMBROTYPE. IT IS UNKNOWN WHO THE LADY IS IN THE PHOTO. The film IS actually the glass! The emulsions were applied to the glass and the picture exposed directly to it. Unfortunately War images that used those types of processes and later those that used glass as negatives were lost. Because after the Civil War, many Americans didn't want to see the war pictures anymore, so the glass was sold to homeowners and esp. those with greenhouses and the sun on the glass eventually bleached out years of American history. There were thousands more pictures of that period, than are left today, because of this sad act. THIS IS A VERY RARE PIECE OF HISTORY! Antique Victorian WALNUT Civil War Era Picture Frame 18 1/4 x 20 5/8 c1860s ART
Frame not as dark as above shot. More like close-up picture below. Here is a nice antique walnut picture frame. Looks to have been made of carved molding and had a inner gilt/gesso slip liner. The inner gilt/gesso is mainly all chipped off, but the frame itself is sturdy still. It measures 24 x 26 1/8 ins. and the inner rabbet size is 18 1/4 x 20 5/8 ins. The molding is 2 3/4 ins. wide. This frame has an unusual element, it has four corners with a round old wood putty( I think) covered hole. Unsure if it was made that way, or more likely someone many, many decades ago repaired it with nails or screws and then puttied over it. Really do not know for certain.The frame is solid and sturdy.I would date it to the 1860-80s time period. Perfect for Victorian. Antique Vintage Bubble Convex Glass 6 Sided Picture Frame Gold w Civil War Story
This is a beautiful Antique Six Sided Convex"Bubble" Glass Picture Frame with a photo. The photo is of my great grandparents celebrating their 63rd anniversary in 1939 so my guess is that the frame is from near that time period. The frame is made of wood and is gold and bronze tone colored. The size is 17 inches x 12 inches. I don't see any identifying marks. The glass is in good condition and the frame looks great hanging on the wall. But when I started inspecting it and taking pictures I found some small chips and scratches on the edges. It's still pretty nice, considering the age. There are some hairline fracture like marks I'm told is normal with age, due to the clay material that was used with this wood when they constructed these frames. The last battle that General Lee fought before the surrender at Appomattox was the Battle of Sayler's or Sailor's Creek( people spell it both ways. My family used Sayler's) The lady shown in the picture was Ida Byrd Hillsman Vaughan. She lived in Hillsman House which was in the battlefield and was taken over by the Union as a hospital after the battle. Grandma Byrd was a small child at the time of the battle, but told my mom stories about how scary it was when they were hiding in the house during the battle, and how awful it was to have all the wounded and dead soldiers in her home. Hillsman House is now a Civil War Park. Please be sure that this is an item that you can use as there can be no returns on auction items.
