Large Antique TRAMP ART FRAME This is an original piece of tramp art dating from the 1850-1899 time period. It has up to four levels of carved layering and is a very sturdy item. The frame itself measures approximately 5-3/4 pounds. It has a nice surface color which is a very old salmon over blue. Antique/Vintage 1800's Hand Carved Tramp Art Frame. Great Condition, 17" x 13" Up for sale is an antique Folk art/Tramp art picture frame with an old picture in it. The frame is what they call Tramp Art. Over a 100 years old, hand made folk art. It's a really neat frame and definitely is old. All wood with inner Gold trim. It's in really good shape. The front has very little wear/tear, it looks like there was an additional leaf on the other top left corner, but not positive, It's solid and complete. The inside trim is gold and shows some wear. The back has no wire, Will need to be replaced. It has just about all it's nails on the back to hold the picture, very rustic backing with one split and a crack so the back piece will also would need proper repairing, there is one chunk out of the back left corner of the ... moreframe(see picture) still has the eye loops for wire, no glass.this is a great piece for collectors. The picture is an old print of the residence of Alvin Buck Esq. Co.unfortunately someone wrote $2.00 on it. I am not sure when, this frame came from a friend who has had it for many years, but the frame is the most collectible. That is dated 18 October, 1942. The Reconnaissance document was presented to Monsieur Metzger Ernest of Strasbourg, France. The frame is 14 inches high and 16 inches wide. Antique Black Forest Wood Carved Picture Frame. This is a beautifully carved and layered frame with a wood back and very old nails. This is hand carved and the pieces fit together like a puzzle. I would say it has four layers. The frame has nice dimension. The picture in the frame was purchased with the frame and is a studio picture from Detroit, Michigan. It is of five females and has been tinted after developing and has that silver shine look.Sorry, old pictures confuse me) The glass in the frame was hand cut period glass and all of the pieces of wood are hand cut, as is the backing. The wire mounting wire is old and rusty. The picture is 4 x 2 1/2 and the frame measures 6 3/4" x 5 5/8" Very nice antique and it will be even prettier all cleaned and polished. The craftsmen used simple tools such as a pocketknife to carve the wood and assemble mostly utilitarian objects. Tramp art was popular in Germany, Austria, German areas of Switzerland and the United States, and some of the finest examples were made in the Black Forest(Schwartzwald) of Germany. The most common forms were the box and the picture frame and although there were no rules or patterns to lend commonality in the artists’ work there were objects made in every conceivable shape and size including full sized furniture and objects of whimsy. Beautifully hand carved wood frame with glass. Nicely matted hand cut paper or doily'crosses within a cross' The outline of the cross is also crosses. We have researched and believe this piece to be mid to late 1800's. The matting has a slight stain on the bottom. The paper cross has a small piece missing from lower left. We feel the piece is probably in between the matting, however we do not want to take the original backing off as this should be done by a professional.
