Antique 19th Century Walnut Fluted Cove Deepwell Hudson River School Frame
This is an antique 19th-century walnut fluted cove deepwell Hudson River School frame. I would date it 1860s to 1870s. Overall. The frame measures 20 1/8 inches by 16 15/16 inches(51.1 cm x 43 cm) The back opening size is 14 7/8 inches by 11 5/8 inches(37.8 cm x 29.5 cm) The molding width measures 2 7/8 inches(7.3 cm) The frame itself is fairly thick at 2 1/8 inches(5.4 cm) It has its original finish. Some of it has worn off or has been lightly scratched off. There are two areas right next to each other where the finish is a little discolored along the fluted cove section(please see photos) There are a number of tiny chips or dings to the finish. But nothing very deep. However, they are noticeable. Also. Each corner has openings where the wood meets. I don't know if this is original or shrinkage. It has old square nails. 19th century pair of two fluted cove walnut picture frames with lemon gold liners. Openings measures 4" wide x 5.5" high. Outside measurements 8.25 wide x 10" high x 2" deep. Both frames are in excellent condition. The 1892 pictures are of Elizabeth Gerdes and Rudolph Wesley who were engaged when these photographs were taken but lated married.

This is an excellent c1860 Hudson River school Victorian walnut deepwell frame. Excellent deep. Fluted cove with adirondack style bark coved top edge with original lemon gilded liner. The only other flaws I see on this frame is about the outside edge of the frame are are a couple of very minor slivers of oak that is gone. they are so slender that it not visibly noticeable but if you rub your finger along the edge that you can feel it. Overall though. This is a beautiful antique solid frame. There are 2 holes drilled in the back for a vertical hung painting or mirror. But also looks like it may have at one point housed a piece that was hung horizontally. But they are much smaller. Like nail holes. Circa 1900- 1950. From a Baltimore MD estate.
