This is a very interesting Antique photo frame with English sterling silver front design on a dark blue velvet backing. This piece is hallmarked with the passant lion for 925/1000 sterling silver. The anchor mark for Birmingham England, and the date letter mark of a lower case( i) for the year 1908. The condition is as follows. The silver has some dings and dents especially around the central ring, the top cartouch is pushed in, the velvet on the front has some white polish dust. This piece would have originally had a filler backing to strengthen the sterling and this is a bit broke up now inside.Measures about 6 x 5 3/4 inches, the circular is 3 inches in diameter and there is no glass. English Sterling Silver Repousse Picture Frame Hallmarks include: RC" inside a hexagon; 925" inside an oval; flower inside a square; lion passant inside a rectangle; and the numbers 2 0 0 0 in the four corners of a cross. I believe this last mark is a date mark. So this item would be a modern reproduction of an antique design. Frame measures 6.5" x 5.5" Picture opening measures 4 3/4" x 3 1/4" Engraveable cartouche at top of frame(not engraved) Back is covered with blue velvet. Very good pre-owned condition.
