Description This antique dark walnut criss cross picture frame measures 16" long. 14" wide and holds a 10" long, 8" wide picture. The frame has crosses at each corner decorated with white porcelain and brass tacks or buttons. There is a liner of gilded gesso around the picture. The frame is holding a black cut out silhouette of a rooster against a tan background. The frame has a replaced wood backing and also has glass over the silhouette which is probably not original to the frame. Description At auction is a Victorian criss-cross frame which measures 14 1/2" long. 12 1/2" wide, in total and holds a 8" long, 6" wide picture. It is made from walnut wood and has pressed wooden leaves at the corner crosses. It also has an inside liner of gilt gesso around the picture. The frame dates to the 1880's-90's but it is holding an oil on board hand painted picture of flowers, possibly zinnias, in a bowl. It is colorful and nicely done and it is signed with artist, Bessie Hanson, and dated 1964. ANTIQUE VICTORIAN CARVED WALNUT FRAME WITH GOLD LINER. Circa 1860’s– 1870’s. Corners have the original applied criss-cross walnut molding with porcelain/ metal white“buttons” on each corner. Frame is a Currier and Ives style frame. In original walnut with fluted design in the wood, with original finish and original gold liner in the frame. Frame and contents weigh about 2 pounds before any packing materials. The frame contains a vintage print– part of an old calendar from the 1960’s– a young boy on a horse with his dog– maybe a spaniel. Outer measurements– 14 ½ inches wide at the end of the extensions and 16 ¾ inches long. Including the walnut extensions at each corner. The front molding measures about 1 inch wide. Opening for the glass is approximately 8 ½ inches by just less 10 ¾ inches. Measured from the back. Finish ... moreon the walnut is original– kind of a soft matt finish. Not shiny. There are a few slight chips on the wood– one small piece missing on lower right corner– see picture. The gold tone liner is original. But has discolored over the years. Corners are tight. Vintage Adirondack Criss Cross Frame --- Antique Little Girl Print --- 15” x 19”
This beautiful old Adirondack criss cross frame has wonderful flat leaf rosettes at each corner. It’s sound and solid and sturdy. Showing only minor light wear, with a nice patina. The outer edges of the“criss crosses” measure about 19.25” x 15.25” The frame opening on the back, where a print or photo would fit, measures about 15” x 10” The antique print is of a precious little girl in a hooded shawl with a bow in front. The print has quite a bit of wear…there’s creases in several spots… a water stain at the bottom… and a few narrow tears that you can see in the photos. Even with these flaws, the print looks marvelous for hanging…there’s a lot of character there! The frame is in great condition. Showing light wear only… nothing major. There’s what appears to be some dried glue around the lower right leaf rosette… perhaps the rosette was reglued ... moreat some time. There’s no hangar on the back of the frame. The entire frame measures 5 1/4" x 5" The inner opening is about 2 1/8 x 3 1/2" It has an embossed Victorian card under the glass. On the back are two embossed stamps on the cardboard. One is stamped Trade Boston Mark, in a star. The other is B. French Co. Boston, Sole Gents, with June 27, 1871, in the center. I note no damage to the frame, itself. The cardboard backing exhibits wear, and I note chippage on the edge of the glass. That is covered by the frame. It also needs a tack at the bottom so the picture and glass do not slide out. Beautiful Adirondack Picture Frame with a Antique/Vintage Floral Applique. Frame is a Hard to Find 19" X 15" Criss Cross Size. A Beautiful Estate Find! The Folk Art Applique is nice with aging. Frame is in nice condition with a small corner glass chip hidden under frame. Gold wear and a split wood on side due to a nail. Please understand that I sell Antique and Vintage items; therefore.
