This is an auction for antique Herbarium book pages that have historical significance from the Civil War. First. There is a page with flowers(with ribbon) with the handwritten description"From Johnsons Island, O. Sent to me by Maj. Gen. Trimble, C.S.A. Whilst a prisoner there, 1865. Next, there is a white page that has cotton attached with the handwritten description of"Cotton grown in Hopkinsville, KY during the second year of the war. Sent by Col. Bowles of Morgan's Command. The Trimble page measures approximately 9" wide x 12" tall. The Bowles page measures approximately 7 1/2" wide x 9 1/2" tall. Both of these pages were from the Herbarium book made by Octavia A. Shreve from Kentucky(this book is up for auction in another listing) These pages were removed from the book because my grandfather was planning ... moreto frame them and display them in the house. He was a Civil War enthusiast. I have included a picture of the flower page in a frame to show how nicely it looks as a framed display. However. The frame is not included in this auction. Each page is a work of art and a testament to history. These pages(and the Herbarium books I have in another auction) belonged to my great-grandfather. Walter S. Gifford. Walter was the President of AT&T for most of the 1900's and is often credited for making the company the largest in the world and for making it what it is today. Also, he was the American Ambassador to Great Britain(worked with Winston Churchill) and worked alongside many presidents and diplomats. Size in the back for the print is 9.25 by 6.0 inches. Overall size is about 10.5 by 7.0. Although the cardboard and nails in the back are not old, the pressed wood frame dates to the late 1800's. The frame nicely matches the print. Includes the glass. The print is original; it is not a modern photocopy.

Up for your consideration is this antique Victorian wooden picture frame with a print of a Civil War battle. The print caption says: Gallant Charge of Hawkins's Zouaves Upon the Rebel Batteries on Roanoke Island. The frame includes its nice finish. Newer white matte, and older glass. It measures 19 by 23 inches, overall and will accomodate a 16 1/2 by 20 1/2 inch picture. The frame is in good condition with some slight corner separation and some nicks to the finish. All Customs forms will state the actual selling price of items shipped internationally. About ten years ago. I found 15 or so exquisite antique frames in a home in Columbus, Indiana. Some had prints in them– a few had mirrors. These are the only two ovals I found, each from around 1865-1875. CONDITION = EXCELLENT The frame with the old print measures 14 ¾” by 12 ¾” overall. The oval image size is 9 ¾” by 7 ¾” But the rabbet is cut to hold an image 8” by 10” It is deep at 1 ¾” and it’s quite elegantly constructed. Note the dovetails on both frames. The print is nice also. But it is not as old as the frame. Both have wood backs. The one with no print has a mirror. But I took it out for photographing ... morethe two frames. Wouldn’t want you seeing me working in my PJs. I’ll send it along with the frames anyway. Gutta-percha case is in good condition. Some wear can be noted in photos. Brass hook and catch are in working order. daguerreotype( image is clear, glass in intact. gilt colored tin frame surrounds likeness of young female. opposite side of folding case is padded and line with embossed velvet. This is a very old family piece. I am not an expert and have described it to the best of my ability. I am happy to answer questions and usually ship within 24 hours.

One corner has a little damage.I did not try to touch it up. But a little Formby's should hide it well. The frame itself measures 12" x 14" And the opening for the photo is 7-1/2" x 9-1/2" The frame itself is about 2-1/4" deep, with a total of 2-3/4" deep with the molding on the back to hold the photo. Currently configured for hanging horizontally. It could also be used vertically.

From my non-smoking home. Beautiful Civil War era or later Deep Walnut Frames with unusual deep. Thick(and unpatterned) gilded liner. Lovely old patina and in solid shape. This walnut frame pair is not your typical deep walnut frame. And instead of straight molding, is more swirl carved and is embellished with tiny carved out flowers. The frame with the rose and pansies has old glass with a few small bubbles. I think the fuchsias and violets has one bubble in the glass. But it is tiny. The wool needlepoint panels are both in good condition with no apparent fading/staining(it's the glare on the glass.it's impossible to photograph without reflections) or moth damage. The inside of the frames(and also the size of the needlepoint) is approximately 7-1/2" x 9-1/2" The frames measure 11-1/2" x 13-1/2. And the frame itself ... moreis about 2-3/8" deep.

Vintage & Antique 3 Oval Wood Picture Frames Lot Victorian Edwardian Civil War
The three frames in this lot are all vintage with the one that is painted gold probably a little newer. The gold one measures 11 1/2 inches x 9 1/2 inches x 3/4 inch deep with the opening measuring 9 1/2 inches x 7 1/2 inches. It has glass that fits and a wood backing. There is an old paper matting that has discoloration and staining. The other two are older frames and are constructed the same. They are a little different in size. The larger one measures overall 13 3/4 inches x 11 3/4 inches x 1 1/4 inches deep with the inside opening being 9 1/8 inches x 7 1/8 inches. The smaller one measures 13 1/4 inches x 11 1/4 inches x 1 1/8 inch deep with the inside opening being 9 1/8 inches x 7 1/8 inches. The gold inner ring on them is actually a metal ring. Probably brass, it shows darkened spots and a couple of minor dents. I did not try to clean ... moreor polish the metal. Both of these frames have separation where the original joints are. There is a spot where a chip of wood is gone. Both of the frames seem to be solid and I don't know if the joints can be pulled back together and glued or if they can be filled and colored in some way. Both of the frames have glass and a wood backing. All the frames come without points or nails to put them together with the glass and back. So the new owner will need to supply same. Please take a good look at the pictures, I tried to show where the separation at the joints are. There are pictures that follow. Feel free to ask questions. The only thing I did to these was wipe off the dust and dirt with a damp cloth, otherwise they come to you as I got them and may need further cleaning. Vintage gilt fan shaped shadow box picture frame with civil war fan
This 50+ year old wooden frame measures 29 1/2" long 17 1/2" wide. 2 3/4" deep This is in very good condition and has been well taken care of. The civil war fan belonged to my family and was found in the 1960's in an old trunk in the attic in Erie. Pa. I am not sure of the material that the fan is made of. The fabric is in good condition. There is some separation due only to the age of the piece. I think it is silk. The colors are still vibrant and there is not any fading. The large fan has butterflies made out of gold thread. Here is a very large. Quite heavy antique walnut picture frame, circa 1860s. It measures 29 x 33 ins. in total size, and the insert rabbet for your art or mirror is 22 3/16 x 26 3/16, a 22 x 26 item should fit fine in here. The molding is about 4 ins. wide and it is a deep well with painted black ebonized lines on the surround. The frame is in FAIR as is antique condition, with some minor scrapes, scratches, some inner gilt gesso chipped off the slip liner, some black ebonized lines wearing away, and some miter corner separations. It is fairly sturdy, but could be stabilized further by re-gluing. It has a bit of old whitish paint at one side back corenr, unseen from the front and coudl probably be cleaned off if it bothers you. Please be aware this frame is approx. 1t is about 150+ years old. Antique Victorian bronze reef? Civil war reef? Beautiful and heavy!
Up for your consideration I have a vintage antique bronze reef. I have done some research on it but could not find anything similar to it. I am not sure if it is Victorian. Civil war era or something else? it weights approximately 3 1/2 lbs and the measurements are approx 14" in length by 6" in width. the thickness is approximately 1" at the widest part. It appears to have been a part of something else. At the bottom of it it looks like a screw is lodge inside of it and on the top side of the reef around 10AM and 2pm it looks like a hole was drilled for a screw. On the ribbon itself there are also 2 screw holes. One of them also has a screw lodge in it. It is a truly beautiful bronze reef naturally tarnish green in some area. Frame not as dark as above shot. More like close-up picture below. Here is a nice antique walnut picture frame. Looks to have been made of carved molding and had a inner gilt/gesso slip liner. The inner gilt/gesso is mainly all chipped off, but the frame itself is sturdy still. It measures 24 x 26 1/8 ins. and the inner rabbet size is 18 1/4 x 20 5/8 ins. The molding is 2 3/4 ins. wide. This frame has an unusual element, it has four corners with a round old wood putty( I think) covered hole. Unsure if it was made that way, or more likely someone many, many decades ago repaired it with nails or screws and then puttied over it. This is a beautiful Antique Six Sided Convex"Bubble" Glass Picture Frame with a photo. The photo is of my great grandparents celebrating their 63rd anniversary in 1939 so my guess is that the frame is from near that time period. The frame is made of wood and is gold and bronze tone colored. The size is 17 inches x 12 inches. I don't see any identifying marks. The glass is in good condition and the frame looks great hanging on the wall. But when I started inspecting it and taking pictures I found some small chips and scratches on the edges. It's still pretty nice, considering the age. There are some hairline fracture like marks I'm told is normal with age, due to the clay material that was used with this wood when they constructed these frames. Grandma Byrd was a small child at the time of the battle, but told my mom stories about how scary it was when they were hiding in the house during the battle, and how awful it was to have all the wounded and dead soldiers in her home. Fresh find from an old estate here in Michigan-Nice old wood frame. Dimensions given are inside rabbeted area in back of frame into which the print and glass goes. In as found condition. I have not done any refinishing to the frame. Contains 4 profile of the four most defining figures of the civil War along with brief comment on each-Abraham Lincoln. General Grant, General Lee, and Thomas Jackson. Ready to hang as is or use for your own print, portrait, or art project! Great for the Civil War Buff. Unusual to find these nice old frames. It is the finest combination of an early antique or Victorian Cabinet Photo Album with a truly special stand. The stand has a drawer and both stand and album are with matching velvet. The metal work is very special throughout as hopefully the photos are able to tell. Check out the center decoration that includes what looks to be an original beveled mirror in the shape of a bell. Included are 26 photos that came from the estate but I do not know that all are faily. 1 of the photos is a bit earlier and shows a young man wearing a navy uniform. Some of the photos look to be extremely early in the life of photography and may be valuable in themselves.
