A shoe polish for blackening shoes. This box is from the late 1800s, and would have held 3 dozen tins of blacking. Measures: 11.5" in length, almost 8" in depth, and 4.75" in height. One of the small metal wires which acts as one of the hinges has broken. It's and easy fix as it's simply two pieces of stiff wire held by a small loop, shown in one of the photos.Name written in pencil faintly can still be seen on box top center. The corners are dovetailed. The wood in general is quite good condition for it's age, no cracking. One small chip to the bottom underside where a nail head is exposed on the frame, minor. As you can see the paper litho on the outside and inside the box top is in quite good condition. Still bright and clean, with some spotting and general age wear. Antique Wooden Hand-Carved Gesso Frame w/ Black Americana Photo - Pine Bluff, AR
I absolutely fell in love with this frame when I saw it and was just as intrigued with the photograph in it. I bought it in Pine Bluff. AR. The seller said another customer told her this man came from a very prominent and wealthy family in Pine Bluff back in the day. Unfortunately, the seller did not know or remember the name of the family. It definitely appears to be from the late 1800s or very early 1900s. When I got this home. I was hoping to find out more information by carefully removing the backing. I’ve found dates and/or names on the backs of photos before. No such luck this time. There is some very faint writing– but the only thing I can make out is there’s a photo# it says it’s a photo, and its size is 10” x 12” No names, no dates. The photo has faded. Has some dark spots on it and possibly a watermark or two. Please see my pictures ... morefor more details and close-ups. The frame is gorgeous and is unlike any other I’ve seen. The cut-out holes are so unusual and appear to be hand-carved as they don’t look perfectly symmetrical to me. There is some damage to the gesso– with the worst of it clearly being at the very bottom. It appears it was stored on the floor for some time and may have even sustained some water damage. The bottom right corner is the worst and has a little bit of roughness to the edge of the wood proper. There’s also a small“slice” in the wood at the very top of the frame(towards the front) just to the left of the hanger rope/tie. There’s also a small split on the backside of it. The glass is wavy and therefore appears to be original. I’m assuming the green paint is original. Too, based on how it looks from the back(bleed-over) The green and gold colors are beautiful, but please keep in mind I have not tried to clean it(for fear of damaging the gesso further) I’m sure with the proper cleaning, the colors would be even more eye-catching. I did clean the mirror the best I could only because it was so dirty– it was difficult to get a good look at the photo. The frame itself measures

T his auction is for a picture frame made by the Columbian Manufacturing Co. in Detroit Michigan. USA. It is in very good condition with it's original label practically intact and no major scratches. It most likely dates from the 1890's. Overall. It measures 20 1/2 x 23 1/4 The back opening size is 17 1/8 inches X 19 7/8 inches The molding measures 2 inches This frame will be sent with it's glass. Two boards pictured across the back, and all the nails that have been removed to open it. I have a 100% seller rating and I always make an effort to photograph and highlight any significant imperfections. I accept returns only if I have misrepresented the item.
