Antique Vintage Old Black Forest style carved wooden rectangular frame with oval opening. This is a beautifully carved dark wood frame. Still in lovely condition for a really old piece and still usable shape with just a little TLC. The worst feature on the surface is some tape residue that I did not attempt to remove, It has a blue velvet matt still in it where it looks like a small square picture was attached. the oval wooden backing piece is broken in half. Oval opening is about 5 by 6 inches. With a total size of 8 by 10.5 inches. This was among my late mother's things that she had in a storage unit since the 1970's. but it is not my field of expertise if you have any questions please ask before you bid. shipping is $10 in the US

ANTIQUE EXOTIC BLACK FOREST CARVED WOOD FRAME ca 1850
This is an extremely rare and unusual BLACK FOREST hand carved wooden frame dating from around 1850. It appears to have a Middle-eastern feel to it. Such as Palestine of the 19th century or Egypt of the same period. It held a thermometer within the frame originally. That would have been a novelty then. The piece is all original with no repair or restoration. You could place a cropped photograph in the frame or a custom painting or drawing.The specie of wood is indeterminable by us. The frame has the wear and mellow patination one would expect with its age but, no damage. The piece measures 11 inches tall, 6 inches wide and 4 inches deep. When it hits ROCK BOTTOM. I rescue. Item Number: 978 T WO(2) VERY OLD BLACK FOREST STYLE RUSTIC PRIMITIVE CARVED WOOD PICTURE FRAMES with GLASS. A wonderful pair of picture frames. All carved and so rustic looking! Two different sizes, one glass opening is 11-3/4" x 9-1/2" and the larger one is 13-3/4" x 9-3/4" glass opening size. This is the measurement from outside edge of gold rim all around the frame. Of course you could use a mat in them and mat them down to your 8 x 10's or 5 x 7's. Dark rustic patina. Very nicely carved old wood. Leaves carved also, there are some pieces broken off and missing of the leaves layered on the wood panels. Some of the leaves has a missing point or two. For me, the missing part is hard to notice, everything just"fits" in nicely, it works as it is. Check out all the photos ... moreas I show them very clearly. Lots of detail in the wood panels, intricately carved with leaves on corners of frames where they cross. Comes with glass and some cardboard backing under the back panel. It never had a back rabbet: applied moldings determine the back opening. Currently the modern molding describes a back opening of 22 ¾” x 17 5/8” But can easily be reduced. The surface of the frame bristles with confidently rendered foliate details with crossed ribbons and leaf elements at the corner. The carving appears to be Swiss or Black Forest to me, in the late Empire or neo-classical manner. It has lapped construction at the corners and dry, dark original surface on the face. Antique Black Forest Wood Carved Picture Frame. This is a beautifully carved and layered frame with a wood back and very old nails. This is hand carved and the pieces fit together like a puzzle. I would say it has four layers. The frame has nice dimension. The picture in the frame was purchased with the frame and is a studio picture from Detroit, Michigan. It is of five females and has been tinted after developing and has that silver shine look.Sorry, old pictures confuse me) The glass in the frame was hand cut period glass and all of the pieces of wood are hand cut, as is the backing. The wire mounting wire is old and rusty. The picture is 4 x 2 1/2 and the frame measures 6 3/4" x 5 5/8" Very nice antique and it will be even prettier all cleaned and polished. This nicely detailed tramp art antique frame is entirely hand carved and is constructed in chip carved layers of four layers. Tramp Art was woodworking where small pieces of wood, primarily from discarded cigar boxes and shipping crates, were carved/ whittled into layers of geometric shapes having the outside edges of each layer notch carved. It was popular in the years between the 1870s to the early 1930s when the art form declined due to World War II. The craftsmen used simple tools such as a pocketknife to carve the wood and assemble mostly utilitarian objects. Tramp art was popular in Germany, Austria, German areas of Switzerland and the United States, and some of the finest examples were made in the Black Forest(Schwartzwald) of Germany. The most common forms were the box and the picture frame and although there were no rules or patterns to lend commonality in the artists’ work there were objects made in every conceivable shape and size including full sized furniture and objects of whimsy. Tramp Art was a democratic art form made where the raw materials used in its construction were found. Antique Black Forest Wood Floral Frame Elaborately Carved German Heraldic Flower
This auction is for a stunning antique Black Forest frame. As you can see. Every part of this frame is heavily embellished in the naturalistic style. There are overlapping flowers of several different kinds at the top and bottom with heraldic style scrolled and beaded carvings in the corners. Smaller marquees are cuffing the sides and bottom of the central oval with a more elaborate marquee monogrammed top center. The monogram appears to be either ZC or CZ. The central oval is also heavily carved with an overlapping/scaled leaf and berry design. The frame is in very good condition for its age and intricacy. If you look very closely, you can see that the varnish has crazing. Because every aspect of the frame is hand-carved, there are some asymmetries between the right and left sides. At the very top center, it looks like there may have been ... morea leaf over the top of two blossoms on the right(see tenth picture) but the rough end is under the original glaze. There is a small, unglazed chip on the tip of a leaf top right(not visible when viewing the frame head-on but shown from the top in the last picture) There is also a chip to a leaf edge in the bottom left corner that is hidden behind the carving on top of it. When you enlarge the picture of the back, you can see that this was carved and assembled in pieces of varying sizes and the joints between pieces are nearly indiscernible on the face but clean and clear on the back(one of the joints that is visible on the face is shown in the eleventh picture) The frame measures a sizable 27" x 22 1/2" The inside dimensions of the picture opening are approximately 19" x 13" Shipping reflects the size and delicacy of the piece.
