Mainly known as a ceramic designer and as the artistic leader of the Gustavsberg porcelain factory. Kåge studied decorative painting at Tekniska skolan in Stockholm and later for the painter Carl W. Wilhelmson in Gothenburg. Johan Rodhe in Copenhagen and at Plakatschule in Munich, where he learnt graphic techniques. His early career was dedicated to advertising and the production of posters. But his best known work was in ceramics, begun when he was appointed artistic leader of Gustavsberg in 1917, remaining there until 1949, when he was succeeded by Stig Lindberg. The focus of Kåge's early ceramic designs. As of much of Swedish design of this period was on practical solutions to social issues, an example of which was his Praktika(1933) a simply designed and stackable set of tableware aimed at working-class families.Praktika was a commercial failure, as the intended buyers preferred more traditional and ornate products. Paper measures 12 1/2" x 17 3/4" and the sight is 9 1/4" x 14" Born in 1835. Toyohara Kunichika grew up in the Kyobashi district of Edo in the midst of merchants and artisans. In 1848, at age 13, he was accepted as an apprentice into the studio of Utagawa Kunisada I(Toyokuni III 1786-1865) Kunichika's work stands in contrast to that of many of his contemporaries as he persistently held onto the traditional style and subject matter of the classic Japanese woodcut. Unaffected by new Western forms of art. His love of Kabuki inspired him to depict actors in their various roles and varying facial expressions. His skillful use of color and ability to translate the actor's depth of emotion onto the page makes his work some of the most dramatic ever produced. Later on in his career, Kunichika turned primarily to the triptych format as the increased size gave him the space to fully portray the drama and action of the characters represented. This is a gorgeous pair of Tiffany Studios gilt bronze“Abalone” bookends exhibiting meandering grape vines in Art Nouveau/ Art Deco fashion. The fruit depicted with colorful mother of pearl shell. Height 5 3/8 inches tall and 5 1/2 inches wide. Impressed“Tiffany Studios, New York, 1173” on each. The pattern was created to look like Art Deco/ Nouveau clusters of grapes. Circa 1920. Condition: One bookend has 3 mother of pearl disks missing. The gilding is worn in some areas and there are light scratches on each bookend. TIFFANY STUDIOS FAVRILE DECORATED ART GLASS TULIP SHADE
Up for auction and for your consideration is an orginal. Tiffany Studios Favrile Art Glass Tulip Shade. This beautiful pulled feathered decorated shade is in near mint condition, but for a small blemish on it`s side. I believe the blemish is from the manufacturing of the shade, possibly from the blow tube not having been thoroughly clean. The glass is very smoth on this area and hasn't a bit of roughness, which also makes me believe it was done in the making. The fitter rim is perfect, no chips. The shade has a iridescent green pulled feathered decoration with some gold highlights, on a clam broth colored background. The shade is 5 inches tall and 2 1/8 inches wide at the fitter. Up for no reserve auction is an original Tiffany Studios favrile glass lily lamp shade. It is signed L.C.T. on the upper outside fitter rim. It is 100% guaranteed to be an old. Original Tiffany shade. It has the correct fitter and has never been ground. I see 2 very small minute flakes on the inside, upper fitter where it fits into the shade holder(shown in last picture) Only mentioned to be completely accurate. They don't affect the shade at all. The shade is a light gold with white rribbing and a white color mixed towards the bottom. Nice feathering of the glass around the bottom rim. It measures 4 1/2" tall, 2 3/4" wide and the fitter is approximately 1 1/8" It has no cracks or repairs. There are straw lines in the body of the shade from when it was made. 3 TIFFANY STUDIOS ART GLASS TILES
Up for sale are these 3 original Tiffany tiles and a Tiffany wheel for a 10" leaded shade. These tiles came from a leaded glass window. As you can see they still have thier original lead channel with a nice green patina. I once had the pieces to this window but sold it over the years, this is all that is left. One of the tiles has a crack as seen in the photo. I am basicly selling 2 tiles the 3rd is free. There is a slight depression as seen in photo, this is not a chip these tilees were made in a press mold it is in the making. These can be used as paperweights or decorations. TIFFANY STUDIOS HARP TABLE LAMP w GOLD DAMASCENE STYLE ART GLASS SHADE, NICE~~~
For Auction is a bronze table lamp made by Tiffany Studios. New York. This is called a"Harp" Table Lamp and it is done in Tiffany's Studios most sought after Brown/Green Patina. This base uses a 7" Art Glass Damascene style art glass shade. The Harp Lamp Base stands 17 3/4" tall and the Harp is 9 3/16" wide. The foot has a diameter of 5 3/4" The shade stands 4 3/4" tall and is 7" in diameter. This Harp Table lamp displays wonderful and rich Green/Brown Patina. This is the most desirable finish in the Tiffany Patina's. It has a very nice Round Ribbed Foot with a tall column that rises up to a Harp. The foot of the base has 5 feet that are mounted directly to the bottom. The balls of the feet are hollowed out to receive the mounting screws. The top of the harp has a Bell Fitter Cup with a 2 1/4" ... moreFitter to receive the Gold Damascene Style Art Glass Shade. The shade has a Gold Iridescence horizontal Wave pattern that surrounds the entire shade with spiral gold lines running down at an angle overlapping these waves. The base is quite heavy and is loaded with lead on the inside to give the base its added stability. This Tiffany Harp Lamp Base is considered to be in very good to excellent condition. The Bakelite Ring that holds the socket from touching the casing walls is cracked but it still serves its purpose. This has been tested and will not cause a short. The Bell Fitter has all of its original screws including the 3 thumb screws. The bottom of the base has a few scratches in the Patina and this is minor as well as being characteristic of its age. This Base is signed on the bottom with the impressed mark"Tiffany Studios New York" along with the base number"424" There are 2 versions of th is base. A short one and a Tall one. For Auction is a very nice set of candlesticks made by Tiffany Studios. New York. These are known as Art Deco Gold Enameled Footed Candlesticks. The Candlesticks are a elegant size as each one stands approximately 2 1/4" tall and 4 1/8" square. This is an elegant pair of Tiffany Studios bronze candlesticks. They are solid bronze with a Gold Plate. There are trapezoidal windows on each side. The background is done in a deep acid etched Cypriot texture with Red enameling. This pattern repeats itself for the 4 sides of the candlestick. There is a small square neck that rises above this pattern with the bobeches to hold the candles. They have nice lightly aged gold patina that is pretty uniform throughout both candlesticks. They both have removable bobeches. These are the original bobeches to these candlesticks. These candlesticks sit ... moreon 4 bun style feet with their mounting screws inside holding them to the bottom platform. The Candlesticks are considered to be in Excellent Condition as there are no major dents to the metal. They both show minor wear and a few dings to the metal and is consistent with age and handling. The Candlesticks are both signed with the impressed"Louis C Tiffany Furnaces. Inc" mark along with its pattern number"38" and the Tiffany Favrile Logo above the cipher mark. This is a quality set of Tiffany Gold Enameled Footed Candlesticks. These are an excellent example in both Patina and Enameling. This is one of the hardest to find of the Tiffany Candlesticks. Stunning Early Radke Phoenix Studios Iridescent Art Glass Vase
Up for the auction is an early stunningly beautiful art glass vase made by Carl Radke at Phoenix Studios. It is made of the highly iridescent polished glass with alternating dark blue and silver colored glass arranged in a zig-zag pattern(pics. 1-6) Interesting thing that the basic glass is dark purple(pic. 7) The iridescence changes its hues when the light hits it at a different angle and on the zoomed images you can see that there is a fine light blue lining between the dark blue and the silver areas(pics. 8-10) It presents much better in person(it is not easy to take good pictures from such a luster surface) Very smooth and silky to touch. Carl Radke became fascinated by the medium of silver luster art glass as a student in 1970. And this began his journey of re-discovering the complex and sophisticated art form. Luster glass is a very ... morespecialized glassblowing medium. Due to the silver content in the glass. It has always been one of the most costly forms of glass ever produced. In addition to the high cost, other factors prevent this medium from ever being mass-produced in a large factory environment. The raw glass can only be maintained in the oven for a short period of time before the color, quality, and texture of the glass batch begins to degenerate. Not only the specific formulas and high raw material costs. But the experience and technique of maintaining this volatile form of glass in a usable state, has kept the blowing of silver luster art glass in the hands of a few skillful artisans. The illustation is on water color paper mounted on art board(slight bend as seen in pic) and has light surface wear in scratches and rubs but nothing serious and all are repairable(the white streak over Mickey's sleeve cuff is on the surface and it comes off, I will not attempt cleaning) The back has had tape removed around the perimeter and light toning and small stains. Ruhl. Dick: Dick Ruhl was born October 18. 1926 in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. He attended the Chouinard School in Los Angeles, and upon graduation in 1942, began to work at Disney Studios. His skill in drawing Donald Duck brought him fame as being the fastest duck animator on the lot, and he assigned to Donald Duck movies exclusively. In 1951. They joined the Marshall Studios in Veedersburg, Indiana, founded by Jane's grandmother Jesse in 1922, and operated by the family including Jane's father Nicholas Marshall and her mother Grace, originally established to produce lampshades and woodwork. For the next 38 years, the Martzes at Marshall Studios designed and produced a wide variety of functional ceramics including stoneware lamps, dishes, tiles, and even tile-top wood tables. The bodies of their ware were formed by slip-casting, ram pressing, or jiggering, and the pieces were hand decorated. Their work was recognized by a design award from the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, which also has some of their work in its permanent collection.
