One Hundred Silhouette Portraits" privately published in 1912 in which he printed only 100 copies. I used to own two copies(now gone) But what I have here is something much, much rarer that that book. This is an auction catalog from 1917 where his collection was sold. This thin catalog has paper covers(loose) Toned, chipped, contents fine, 17pp, 174 lots, not illustrated. This is the most important collection of silhouettes ever sold! I have owned this copy since 1998. I have never ever seen another copy before or since that time. This is a fragile catalog that was publishd during WWI. World Cat shows only three holdings: Metropolitan Museum of Art, Cleveland Museum of Art and Getty Research Institute. You could be the fourth ... moreowner! Impossible title to find. Lovely early 19th century hollow-cut silhouette of a young woman wearing hat consisting of aged cream colored paper and a black woven cloth& paper material. The silhouette is inset into the original frame and protected with glass. The silhouette is in good age appropriate condition with some wear to the frame and minute age fading. The inset is the same as the frame and is split in the center and the frame itself is 2 pieces and has the same center spits and one more hairline split. The insert on the back is also the same wood and is in 3 pieces and nailed in to keep it in tact. Size: 5 ½” H x 4 1/2” W(including frame)

ANTIQUE 19th Century Pair of Silhouettes of Young boy and girl circa 1873
Fine and uncommon framed silhouettes of a boy and girl purchased together and reframed. The original paper was attached after the framing and is hard to read. But you can make out 1813 or it could be 1873. it was driving me crazy not knowing if this was ink or cut out or both so I opened one to find out. Incredible Hand painted portraits with ink& possibly oils with the detail I are rare. the boy has feathered hair and a collar at the neck and the girl has even more detail. There is more writing on the saved original paper. But it is very faint. Also something under bust of girl-could be part of the work or a signature-not sure

Antique 2 Silhouettes Behind Glass Inked not cut. Very Old
Here are two antique silhouettes. Done in ink not cut paper. Both are in their original frame and glass. Frame is black, back of frame is paper. I think they are at least 100 year old or older. In the first picture you see a woman who is holding a bouquet of flowers. The highboy in the background is more like a library to keep books. In the second silhouettes a man is bringing the woman a bouquet of flowers, he is holding a hat and the highboy in the background looks like a highboy. Same artist. As far as I know they are not signed. Boths pictures look the same as far as the paper is concerned, my camera is old and one looks a little yellow but is not.

Unique Alice Carrick Antique Silhouette Letters Plus Book(One of a Kind) I have one of those one-of-a-kind material here. First. The book is Carrick's first edition book called, Shades of Our Ancestors. This is in excellent shape with nice dust jacket and the price is NOT clipped. That alone is a rarity, and I am sure this book is one of the nicest survivals. It also has a bookplate of one of the most prominent silhouette collectors of all time, Glenn Tilley Morse. His holding of Edouart's cuttings was unmatched. This book is a rarity just the way it is. But. It also contains two typed letters by Alice Carrick! These letters originally belonged to Morse. Tucked inside this copy of the book until his death. His collection was dispersed in two-part, public auction in 1951. It is quite sad to know what will become of our beloved collection ... moreafter our demise. In the first Carrick’s letter written on 9/2/27 before her book was in print. She writes, I meant to spend weeks in West Newbury working with you, whether you liked it or not; I was going to sit on your doorstep until you found me such a nuisance…When can I come?When may I come down, and is there a quiet little inn at West Newbury where I can stay? She was a very persistent gal! She would beg. Cry, demand, and starve herself to death to get information on silhouettes. Her efforts paid off, as her book is a real classic and THE BIBLE on the subject of American silhouettes. Both letters are typed on her husband’s stationery. Where he was a professor of language at Dartmouth College. The letters are a quaint reminder of days gone by. The buyer receives this rare book. Once belonging to Morse, and the two letters. This set is unique and it is history at its making. It can never be duplicated! Trio of Suberb Circa 1840 Silhouettes of an Attractive Family This trio is as nice as they come. They are cut-and-paste works with each silhouette being finely painted and gilded. The size of the card is 3 x 4.5 inches. Not only is the condition outstanding. But it is surprising to see that they are all very atrractive people. Of course. Children are always very popular, but this girl, who is probably 11 or 12, is as beautuful as they come. But even more beautiful is the coloring or the gilding of the details. It is breathtaking. Her mother, an attractive woman in her mid-thirties, is also beautifully embellished. Her husband is, again, very well painted, handsome, and wears a rare headgear of unknown( to me) fraternal organization. The artist was very thoughtful about these three portraits. First. They all face the same direction. Second, ... morethe size of the portraits are graduated: the girl 3 inches tall, the woman 3.75 inches tall, the man 4.25 inches tall. What an interesting and beautiful manuscript! There are so many interesting and beautiful things inside! I found 2 large silhouettes that are all hand drawn and signed In a signature I can't read and dated 1782. I liked those so much I wanted to frame them but kept them with the book they came With… what gentle drawings that looks like an engraving! But It's not. there are more original silhouettes inside. There are also fine signed paintings in the book, again I couldn't decipher the signatures, but what a beautiful nude 18th drawing! This book is all dated and all from the 18th… there is a very impressive dated music page… There are pages of table of contents at the end of the book. The book came from a library of a rich jewish family, my family, who came from Germany before the war, and there is some Hebrew inside, and also ... morea drawing Of a magen david but I am not sure if it's jewish in nature because Of the nude drawing… What a fine thick book! Leather cover and inside a special box. there are 340 numbered pages in this book, 145 out of them were used. The spine of the book is missing a little piece, but the book Seems in good condition. i inherited this book and never wanted to sell it. But i must now. my family ain't rich no more.

Antique Embroidered Victiorian Silhouettes
Up for auction are a pair of antique embroidered Victorian silhouette. These pieces were purchased from an elderly couple that was liquidating their estate. They stated the silhouettes go back 3 or 4 generations in their family to around1840. I have know way of knowing if this is true. The frames are 12 1/2" x 10 1/2" and appear to be circa 1930's or older. The silhouettes inside the border are 8"x6" The linen on both pictures show light staining from age. Antique 19th Century Family Silhouettes Mother Father & Six Children Hollow Cut
For consideration is a fantastic lot of eight antique identified silhouettes from a Kingston. NH estate. The silhouettes are of the Whippen family with Frank Warren Whippen and Minerva(Swan) Whippen being the two adult silhouettes. These are the only two silhouettes that do not have writing on the back. The couple's six children are all identified with their names and birth dates on the back of the silhouettes. Based on the birth dates. I estimate that these were all done in the late 1890's. There is a significant amount of information on the internet about the family. The father was an 1878 graduate of Tufts University. Some of the children attended Tufts, as well. The silhouettes are cut out on white paper and backed with black paper. All presumably done by the same artist. They all have a very light crease down the center. The case measures 3 by 3 ½ inches or 7.6 by 8.8 cm; it weighs 130.2 grams or 4.19 troy ounces. The case features a white guilloche enamel panel on the cover with the silhouettes of 4 nude nymphs running along a flowering leaf. The interior has a gilt gold wash. The interior edge is marked“900” It has been tested and is guaranteed to be so. The condition is very good overall. There are some surface scratches to the enamel on the cover. 4 Antique Sidney Z Lucas (Szl) Silhouettes Pictures In Square Frames.
These beautiful pictures are from entrepreneur Sidney Z Lucas. His prints are identified by the Copy wright symbol and a circular logo with his initial SZL on them(which is on all four pics) All four pics are in original frames and the wood is in excellent condition. The prints are in great condition as well. The back papering on the frame is peeling a bit off of the frame but is not noticeable at all when hung. Picture shows what I'm talking about. They are 6.5 square inch each.
