You are bidding on a extremely rare and hard to find Victorian Hair Art/Picture that is in a Shadow Box. This piece is in excellent condition and has several different colors of hair. They used real hair to make the wreath of beautiful flowers. This art was made some time between the 1400 and 1800's. The glass has bubbles in it which also shows the time table. She looks very pensive as she stands in a field of flowers and foliage. Birds and animals. The artist had a nice eye as to choice and placement of the elements in the scene. The images are mostly shades of russet. Green and brown against a distant landscape. The lady is dressed in a delicate gown with a magnificent layered and fringed shawl which reaches almost to her knees. Both of which are fashioned out of yellow crepe paper with painstaking skill and d etail. The skirt is ruffled at the hem. She wears fingerless black crepe elbow-length gloves and carries a matching black tote on her right arm. Decorated with a decoupage floral spray. In her left hand. She holds a small card on which can be seen a sprig of flowers and the words"Forget me not. To her left. A white dove hovers overhead. To her right. A young lamb stands patiently with a small rowboat in the background. Her black slippered right foot appears to have knocked over a pot of posies. And her left foot seems perilously close to tipping over another. Her gaze. Peering out from her beribboned bonnet, is pensive and wistful, neither happy nor sad.

Very big antique art nouveau jewelry box casket. With gold gilt finish. A big long version measuring 9 x 4 inches by over 3 inches tall and is very heavy and substantial. Has issues. The top is snapped off of the bottom hinge, and on one end there is a small split- see photo# 8. Still fully useable and functional and a great shelf piece. Still has the original cord rim and fluffy padding in the cover. Marked on the bottom 186 for a maker's mark. Has lovely repousse roses and flowers with a pretty swirled handle on top. Antique Victorian Late 18th Century Mourning Hair Art
This mourning hair art came to us through my husband's grandmother. It was discovered after his mother past away. There was no information with it but he remembers being with his grandmother. These hair art pieces were created from the hair of a loved one who has passed away. I can't tell if it was one type of hair or more types. The framing was done by attaching a box to the back side of the oval frame and attaching it. This is where most of the damage is. Around the box. The frame measures 14" x 12" The box measures 9 3/4" x 7" It was hung by a thick string. NOTE: ITEM WILL BE INSURED.

This is a rare very large antique mid 19th century handmade Victorian postmortem hair art mourning piece. It is done in an oval format and framed with a stunningly large victorian wood shadowbox frame. the piece is under glass and it measures 4 inches thick. The whole piece of postmortem art is done by hand with an abundance of very intricate floral detailing. it is completely made from human hair of lost ones post death. it is done with many different techniques. designs. Victorian Antique Sailors Shell Art Box w Pin Cushion Detail, Leaf Shape, V Nice
This is a Victorian era sailors shell art box. Possibly originally sold holding candy but intended for use later as a sewing box(see pin cushion on the lid) These decorative boxes were originally assembled by English sailors as they sailed the warm climates of the Caribbean and South Seas. The exotic shells were glued(read plastered) onto boxes and were carried back to sweethearts and family members. This primitive folk art matured into a more sophisticated industry.boxes would have included silk-covered pin cushions with a resort's name printed on it, photos of ships and famous boardwalks or other landmarks on the lids, as well as colored seed-like shells and pretty colored paper covering the sides. Hand mirrors, picture frames and other fanciful boxes shaped like crowns, miniature dressers or picnic hampers expanded the decorative line. ... moreThe bottoms of the boxes were often covered in a faux bois-patterned paper. Inside there could be dividers for thread or needles. This particular box is in beautiful condition; it has three large-ish clams shells on the top in addition to a variety of other small snail. Crab and clam shells and one mussel shell. The paper covering the sides is a familiar diamond pattern for these boxes; it has retained its rich coloring. See the photos for the condition of the pin cushion: there is a bit of dark staining on the silk but the color is still a deep pink. The leaf shape adds some interest as do the myriad of tiny shells that troop around the edges of the lid and base.they are uniform and all appear original. The lid lifts about half way up; we warn against too frequent lifting of the lid.these handworked pieces are over 100 years old and have earned the right to be decorative rather than working boxes. Victorian Sepia Hair Art Mourning Picture of Castle
This piece is the most unique piece I have ever seen. It was purchased in France many years ago. The seller said at the time it was thought to be a representation of the Castle of Rouen. Which may or may not be accurate. The Castle of Rouen is the castle where Joan of Arc was imprisoned. It is a wonderfully executed hair art picture of a castle no matter which castle it is. The picture depicts the castle set in mountainous terrain. There is a village at the base of mountains on the other side of the river from the castle. A boat is floating in the river in between. There are birds circling the turret on the castle. In the foreground is very desolate landscaping with what appears to be a building or home set above a walk way leading up to it. All this is created from hair. The hair art is done using the sepia technique. This is the largest ... morepiece that I've personally seen using this technique. This picture has two layers to it. The hair art is done on a piece of glass that is set slightly elevated above the colored background which looks to be some sort of paper. Which gives depth to the picture. The hair used is tones of brown for the most part. The tones and shades of brown are what gives the dimension and defines the shapes. The buildings, castle and landscaping are all from hair. The hair is many different lengths and color tones. The size is 9" x 13" for the hair art portion and the ornate frame measures 16" x 20" The frame has a small loss of the decorative wood trim around the edge of the glass. But is still in pretty good condition considering it's age. This is an outstanding piece of hair art and is what would be a centerpiece for a collection of hair art.

It is done in a wreath U shaped format and framed with a stunning handmade two toned victorian wood shadowbox frame. the piece is under glass and mounted to the backplate. The whole piece of postmortem art is done by hand with an abundance of very intricate floral detailing. it is completely made from human hair of lost ones post death. it is done with many different techniques. designs. For sale is this rare and simply exquisite piece of Victorian Beadwork Art. It is such an item of unique beauty that I was so tempted to keep it. Still am. But I love beautiful art and do have enough. Can you imagine how many hours it took to create? And such a creative mind. The item is three dimensional as shown. It was created on a metal frame. Colors are lovely shades of white, grey and yellow. An ebayer just informed me that it is a French mourning wreath. This delicate item is a true survivor, but it does have a few issues. There are beads missing in one area as shown. One of the petals is dangling and needs a little wire repair. However, this really does not detract form its overall beauty and even adds a bit of history with its little imperfections. As you can tell, I find this unique, exquisite and outstanding.
