Frame is 6 1/4" x 5 5/8" and oval painting is 3 3/4" x 3 1/8" Piece is signed on the edge but I can't make it out. In overall very nice condition. An antique oil on canvas painting of birches with homes and pond in background. Signed lower left T Bailey with excellent bark and leaf decorated plaster frame. The painting, 20" wide by 16" high within frame measuring 26" by 22" has been cleaned and ready for hanging. I believe the frame is original to the painting, the color of the back of the frame and the stretcher are very much the same. William Paskell usually comes to mind as the artist that did many of the T Bailey paintings, but I did not feel comfortable attributing this one to him.the signature looks good but it doesn't have the Paskell feel other than the birches. There is one area where they overlapped the canvas that the small nails have pulled through but not damaging the painting.Overall there are 4 nail heads that are missing.some minor chips in the paint as seen in the pictures. Center section is 36 inches tall and 30 inches wide. The sides are 9 inches wide and 32 inches tall to the point and 30 1/2 inches tall on the shorter side. The outer edges are tacked with folded canvas. The signature is on the top of a barrel on the left"flap" of the dummy board. small 1 3/4 inch round the frame is 4 1/2 in square. Came with a collection of miniatures we are selling, this was actually with the other one we just put on of the pretty lady with rose. but this is a different artist, still hard to read first initial D' Sioe? cannot make it out. but the work is very lacy and detailed. he has beautiful blue eyes and tasseled hair wide lace collar and banner across chest. with a star like emblem I believe he is on faux ivory there are some wear marks on the frame as you can see and the glass under the gold rim has a very tiny flakeneed a magnifier to see it is under the brass rim.

Antique Small Signed Oil Painting School House Attended By Poet Whittier

Massachusetts Attended By John Greenleaf Whittier ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This is an artist's rendering of the District School which The Poet John Greenleaf Whittier first attended in Haverhill. Massachusetts where he was born in 1807. It was painted on what appears to be a hard thick, about 1/8" cardboard; perhaps a composite of some kind. The primitive school house is in a very rural setting enclosed by stone walls, and flowering trees possibly painted during the Springtime. There is a very small building near an opening in the stone wall in the rear that is probably an outhouse. On the back of the painting is an old ... morepiece of paper that was taped on probably by the artist which says"The District School Which The Poet Whittier First Attended Haverhill Mass. If you take a close look at photograph# 8, it appears that the brown paper that originally covered the back of the painting and the aforementioned paper with the printing on it, was removed at some point as there are traces of it on the back of the frame. The artist's signature located on the front bottom right of the painting is difficult to read, but I think it says Fannie. Photograph# 6 shows the signature. This is a very small painting that measures 8 3/4" by 5 7/8" including the frame. The painting alone measures 5" by 8" The frame is old and undamaged. But the gilding is faded which is consistent with age. This little painting could probably use a good cleaning, and fortunately there is no evidence of crazing. You are encouraged to ask questions you may have about this item before you bid. I make an honest attempt to provide accurate descriptions.
