Seven panels of back-painted glass views of Paris monuments, mounted ... morein brass with fringe all around (some missing here or there). It is oval in shape and is centered by the Arc de Triomph. The 6 scenes around it, each a small round scene, shows monuments of Paris that a tourist would want to remember in the 19th Century, Notre Dame, The Louvre, Pantheon, and more. It is in vintage condition, original patina...not polished. The brass framework has no breaks, just the base is a bit mis-shapened. No cracks to the glass panel just a bit of loss here or there to the pictures (see close ups for evaluation). It measures 7 1/2 inches long, 6 inches wide and stands about 2 1/2 inches high. A very nice piece, especially for the Grand Tour collector.

RARE architectural ones of Roman buildings.This group has a fabulous relief view of the Vatican Interior of St. Pauls Cathedral and another of Trevi Fountain? These are ORIGINALS. Not copies see in other sellers auctions. They date to the late 18th-early 19th century. They are plaster with paper edge embossed with gold. Each has its number written on side in ink. They were framed in the last few decades in custom frames. This group includes all 7 in this frame, and frame. everything as you see it here) Sizes range from 3/4" Wide to the biggest of the vatican being 1 3/4" Wide. C1900 FRENCH GRAND TOUR 18K GOLD ETUI NECESSAIRE SOUVENIR CASE MIRROR& TOOLS This listing is for an antique. Circa 1900, French Grand Tour Souvenir etui or necessaire case. This is from the estate of Monique Uzielli a European aristocrat who passed away in 2011 at the age of 98. She was the owner of a 5th Avenue New York penthouse which is now on the market for 27.5 million dollars. The case measures 3 by 2 1/4 inches and is 1/2inch thick or 75 by 40 by 12 mm. The outside of the case is in a material that I am not familiar with. However it looks like gutta percha. It is mounted on an 18 karat gold frame. Both the front and back of the case have an inset decoration of gold and silver showing two fancy birds in a garden setting. The cover of the case is hinged. Inside there is a variety of tools etc. They are an 18k gold framed mirror. ... moreAn 18k gold needle, a 14k gold tipped pencil and a 14k gold tipped steel toothpick. There is also an 18k gold riveted folding ox bone pad. All of these tools are set in an 18k gold fitted frame. Notice the inside of the case is all in 18k gold and quite thick. It is impossible to estimate gold weight here because of the outer case. Mirror glass, silver and steel catch, hinge etc, make that not possible. But the total weight of the case is 61.8 pennyweights or 96.1 grams. All the gold has been tested and of course is guaranteed to be as advertised. The condition is as follows. Overall it is excellent. There are no missing tools, the hinge is tight and sound and the case apart from some very minor scratches is in good condition there is however, a small hairline crack at the back top case. However the two inset gold and silver decorations(the birds in the garden) have been crudely reglued in place and have raised somewhat. This should be attended to and fixed by any competent jeweler. DESCRIPTION: Antique late 19th Italian Grand Tour Micromosiac box. Top is micromosaic set into slate and the remainder of the box is gilt brass with some enamel decoration. Interior is red tufted silk. Measures a little over 4" across and 3" tall. Purchase price includes Free USA Shipping and very careful packing. CONDITION: Small chip in the rim of the slate ground to the micromosaic decoration at about the 5 o'clock position as shown in the pics. Back foot of the box slightly bent so the box sits slightly angled on the tabletop. But not enough to matter. Discoloration to the gilding on the brass portions of the box as shown. This auction is for a very fine. 19th century, Grand Tour, bronze ewer. This ewer is modeled after a bladder used in ancient times to store wine. It is decorated with a pair of rams on either side of the mouth, gadrooning alone the lip, a foliate handle ending with a small winged goddess at the back. It is solid bronze and has lovely patination. This was originally purchased from Sotheby's Souvenirs of the Grand Tour Sale in the 90's. It stands 8.5" tall.

This is a rare and complete set of grand tour plaster cameos. 75 medallions in total in five trays housed in their original box with the original description key. Box measures 12 1/2 inches by 9 1/4 inches by 4 1/2 inches tall. Each medallion plaque measures 2 inches in diameter. Each plaque is marked on the reverse which corresponds to the paper key which identifies the subject. Found in England and purchased as a Grand Tour souvenir. Circa 1860. Overall excellent antique condition. The top tray of impressions are dirty; however the other four trays are as pristine as can be. Impressions are crisp and sharp and highly detailed. No cracks nor significant chips to note.

Up for sale is an antique Italian desk sculpture. Piece is hand carved Italian lava rock and depicts a smiling peasant/gypsy woman holding a basket or tambourine. She stands with bare feet against a rock wall near the sea with a smoking volcano in the distance. Most likely Mount Vesuvius. Though the piece is unsigned, it is exceptionally carved, on par with many of the fine lava cames of the time. It probably dates to the mid to late 1800s. Sculpture is meant to lay flat or propped against another item as the bottom is irregular. It would look great on a small custom stand or framed in a shadow box. The Grand Tour was a trip taken by English men. Particularly in the 18th and 19th centuries, where they would tour destinations that were considered to be culturally important and enriching. The trip usually included stops in France. Italy, and Germany, though the itineraries may vary depending on the wealth of the traveler and the amount of time spent abroad. This piece is not signed in any way. Though it appears likely to be Italian. It is likely a copy of a portrait found in a Roman ruin. We would date this piece to the mid to late 1800's. The piece consists of two pieces of marble that have been attached. At a later date. Italian micro mosaic souvenir made during the 1830s-70s. This piece showcases five of Romes most important destinations. The center medallion depicts St. Peters square; the other medallions show: the Colosseum, the Pantheon, the Temple of Hercules and some ancient ruins. Although this piece has been broken and repaired, only the Colosseum medallion has been compromised; the other medallions are in fabulous shaped. It would even be possible to cut the small, antique mosaics out of the stone and use them as individual decorations. This piece is in good overall condition. Despite its large repair. The entire stone has a break from the two o'clock to six o'clock position, which has been ... morerepaired. The repair could certainly be done better and filled in more and repainted to make it almost invisible. The Colosseum mosaic is broken and about 1/3 is missing, but it could be filled in and painted to match if so desired. The largest, center mosaic is missing a couple of small stones, as we have pointed out in the close-up photograph. There are numerous small chips to the black stone especially along the edges. The other three mosaics are in fabulous overall condition. I can find no other problems. The whole piece measures 4 1/2 by 6 1/4 inches. Antique Grand Tour Marble Figure of Enfant Ecrivant after Canova Skillfuly Done
Here we have a rare 19th century Grand Tour souvenir. Being a marble or alabaster figure depicting Anthonio Canova's Enfant Ecrivant. It measures 8 1/2 inches tall and weighs 3 lbs. It is beautifully carved with much detail. As we have tried to show in the close-up photos. The base is an interesting puzzle to us. There seems to be an early repair to the stone base the figure is sitting on. It goes straight across the back of the piece from the left edge( see last photos) The base was mounted, then, on another piece of marble. One would think that if this piece had been dropped there would be some damage to the figure, but the figure is pristine with no chips or missing pieces. To tell the truth, at first we thought the crack was part of the design of the stone pieces of the base. We do not think this flaw detracts from the quality of ... morethis carved figure. Set of 3 OLD framed medallion portraits of classic Greek or Roman figures. The shadowbox glassed frame has some loss of the gilt in places and have some nicks. But are very presentable as they are. These have been carefully mounted on what looks like velvet. I have no idea how old, but the way the frames are constructed suggest turn of last century- and I don't know when the cameos were made. The largest one is about 1.75 inches long and the smallest a little over 3/4" Frame measures 6.5 wide and are about 1.75" deep. Please check the photos for more detail than I can list here. I believe that it is porcelain. But not sure. It came from the estate of a local family that travelled abroad in the late 1800s. It measures 5 1/2” across and over 5 3/4” tall. This piece is modeled on the masterwork by Johann Heinrich Dannecker. The nude figure and the panther are in excellent condition. But the base has an issue. It has been broken and repaired. And has a crack and a chip at the site of the damage which is at the bottom right/front of the base. The item is marked underneath with numerals 289. I don’t know this category of item. Antique 19thC Grand Tour Pietra Dura Plaques & Bronze Snake Handle Ibrik Pitcher
Up for bids is this Antique 19thC Grand Tour Pietra Dura Plaques& Bronze Snake Handle Ibrik Pitcher. This is a very unusual piece that I haven't been able to find anything else like it in my research. This piece was made during the mid to late 19thC in either France or Italy. The piece is in the form of an Ibrik pitcher which means that this piece was made to be sold as a souvenir of the Grand Tour to wealthy people from the Middle East. The pitcher is made of glass and it is covered stylized scrolling leaves. The pitcher has a figural bronze handle which depicts a snake which has branches coming out from his mouth which are covered in leaves. Over the spout is a hinged cover which has a figural leaf attached to it. This piece comes with its original bronze under tray which is engraved with Persian style decorations on the edge and ... morestylized leaves in the center. The decoration on the tray is hand engraved. The pitcher still has its original ground glass stopper. On each side of the pitcher there is a 1 1/4" x 1" pietra dura plaque. One of the plaques depicts a purple pansy and the other depicts a tulip. The pitcher stands 10 3/4" in height and is 8 3/8 from handle to handle. The tray has a diameter of 5 7/8" and stands 3/4" in height. Both pieces are in great condition with just the finial on the lid is bent but that would be an easy fix and also there is a thin crack to the bronze base that was enforced with some sort of cement to keep the split stable. There is also a slight bend to the setting which the pansy plaque is set in. The plaques are free of chips or cracks. Antique Fine Grand Tour Marble Obelisk with Pietra Dura inlay florals on the base and oblong trim along the top sides. The obelisk had contained a thermometer insert within the center which is now gone. I found a number of these pictured with the thermometer but they did not seem to have the trim details seen here. The obelisk is tall. 13-3/4" high, weighing almost 4 pounds. The top is separately carved and created from the base so perhaps they would be used separated in the future with the bottom supporting something else. Offered as is for re-purpose. Rare Paperweight in shape of Book- This paperweight looks like a real book! It is made from a carved block of red marble, thin slice of alabaster inlayed around three sides and entirely engraved make the effect of yellowed paper. In the center a view of Roman Foro is made with the technique of"commesso" not micromosaic) with the use of very small pieces of shaped semiprecious stone. From a local estate. A pair of oval wood frames with black enamel/paint, convex glass, gold details and white plaster cherubs. Grand tour items from the mid 20th century and not the antique. I believe they are souvenirs from traveling abroad in the 1940's or 50's because though the frames are solid wood. The castings are not as detailed or intricate as those of 19th century. These finely carved plaster cameos by Giovanni Liberotti were made for the travelling aristocrats making the infamous"Grand Tour" during the 1800's. They are individual numbered pieces mounted in a double sided vellum book like case. With handwritten indentifying descriptions written in Italian. This volume is titled on the spine"Museo Capitolino" which feature famous ancient sculptures and historic figures( includes owners partial handwritten translation page) There are 51 oval cameos. All are in excellent condition with no cracks or damage. Some may show some dust. Soiling, or small stain, but otherwise crisp and clean. All ... moreof the cameos are tight and secure in their oval black frames. T hey are glued 26/ 25 per side along the edge of the black trim. Most are well attached but a few have come loose from the book( 2) and need spot of gluing. The book itself is in great condition. Spine is nice. Both covers are well attached. There is a little separation at a seam on top and inner green lining, but no looseness or movement. No repairs I can see. Inside and outside vellum shows some wear but nice color. Corners and edges show wear, one dent along one top edge, otherwise nice. This auction is for one(1) book only. I have a total of 4 volumes that are listed now separately. If interested in the set. If you're a collector of micro mosaics then you already know you've come across something special in this large framed 19th-century micro mosaic of Venice! As Wikipedia reminds us, Micromosaics(or micro mosaics. Micro-mosaics) are a special form of mosaic that uses unusually small mosaic pieces(tesserae) of glass, or in later Italian pieces an enamel-like material, to make small figurative images. Surviving ancient Roman mosaics include some very finely worked panels using very small tesserae, especially from Pompeii, but only from Byzantine art are there mosaic icons in micromosaic with tesserae as small as the best from the Modern period… From the Renaissance they began to be made in Italy.
