CONDITION: Small chip in the rim of the slate ground to the micromosaic decoration at about the 5 o'clock position as shown in the pics. The top is snapped off of the bottom hinge, and on one end there is a small split- see photo# 8. Still fully useable and functional and a great shelf piece. Still has the original cord rim and fluffy padding in the cover. Marked on the bottom 186 for a maker's mark. Has lovely repousse roses and flowers with a pretty swirled handle on top. Antique French Eglomise Glass Jewelry Casket-Invalides
A wonderful old French jewelry casket with gilt metal. Heavy beveled glass sides and top, and an eglomise picture of the Invalides in France on top of the piece. Les Invalides was originally built as a hospital for wounded soldiers and later the ashes of Napoleon were entombed under the dome. These jewelry caskets were collected by travelers during the late 1800's to very early 1900's. This piece is in very good condition for the age. There are several very, very teeny flea bites along the edges of the glass, but no chips or cracks. One leg is bent out of kilter but could be bent back I am sure, and on the underside the bottom metal plate has been pushed in slightly. I have not tried to straighten any of this. Imagine my heartache when I got this home from an estate sale.so excited as this was my best find of the day. Until one of my kids.Playing with the dog.knocked it off the table. I don't know anyone who can fix it.so Hopefully this will make someone else happy if they can fix it. It appears to be a broken weld near, and on the hinge to the lid. The lid can still sit on top and look pretty good, but it does need to be repaired to restore its strength and beauty back to a useful piece of beauty. the lady I bought it from says it is early 1900's. It is 7" across at the widest point and a little over 5" tall. I have placed rubber bands on it to retain its shape and prevent further damage. I will have this carefully packaged for travel. The weight will be a little higher as I may have to double box too.

One corner the wood has slightly loosened- again I never glued or tried to repair so is all original. Has the original little key to lock which I have kept inside but it does lock perfectly. I put an old pair of gloves inside for display but will include if you would like- they are not torn or ripped or stained and off white. Antique French Opaline Glass White Casket Sugar Box Pate de Riz? Jewelry Box
Antique French Opaline Glass Sugar Casket Box We are very excited to offer a beautiful. Mid 19th century French Opaline glass sugar box. The box is a beautiful translucent white opaline glass which I believe is Pate-de-Riz(glass powder fired in a mold) and the edges and corners are beveled. This process was used to produce opaline glass in France during the 1840's and the product resembled Alabaster as this very much does. The rim is fitted with hinged brass bands and a lock(we do not have the key) This box would have been orginally used to store and lock sugar which was a precious and prized commodity in Europe at the time but now could serve as a beautiful jewelry box or as a table accessory for sugar still. The box measures 5 1/4" in length, 3 3/16" in width and 4 1/4" in height. The is very beautiful piece of opaline ... moreglass and would be a wonderful addition to an expanding collection. Condition: Very good antique condition. Especially for a utilitarian glass item from this time period. There is one small, shallow surface flaw on the top of the lid that is about 1/4" in length which is also very smooth so I believe it is a flaw in the molding of the glass. There is also very small flake(1/8" or less) on the interior of the lid by the brass edge and not visible from the outside. There is some surface wear on the base appropriate for it's age and a some very light surface scratches on the sides of the base. There is also some type of adhesive visible under the brass rim on the interior which may be original or old attempt to stabilize the brass rim at some point. Antique Ormolu, Jeweled, Hinged Jewelry Box
Stunning ornate antique hinged ormolu jewelry box. Measures 6 1/2 inches X 5 inches X 3 inches. The lid is a pale gold under celluloid with an ornate narrow frame of ormolu. It is decorated with horizontal and vertical ormolu flowers on long stems. In the center is a 1 3/4 inch faceted coral stone set on a raised cartouche of filigree gold ormolu. The sides are also ornate with a repeated pattern and filigree in the center. There is also an ormolu decoration in the front to raise the lid. The lid is lined with a dark mauve brushed velvet. There is a removable divided tray. It and the inside of the jewelry box have the same lining. Latter is original. The underside of the box is also lined in this fabric. It is a beautiful jewelry box and in wonderful condition. The only thing I would wish to bring to your attention is that three of the pin ... morenails on the bottom of the box are missing. Description: A superb antique French Napoleon III era enamel and gilt bronze jewelry casket. Adorned with five enamel on copper panels of a gorgeous Sevres'Celeste' blue accented by a jeweled border of raised white enamel dots and gilt accents. Each panel is centered by a painted floral cluster of pale pink roses and blue flowers. Likely forget-me-nots. A charming bouquet, beautifully detailed and the colors are stunning against the vibrant blue background. Such vibrant colors and amazing detail is quite difficult to achieve in the art of fire-kiln enamel on copper. As is typical of these pieces, the enameling was likely by one of the master enamellists of Sevres, similar to Bresson enamels with raised jeweled dots and the quality of Limoges enamels. The enamel powders are various shades of muddy mauve, taupe, blues, not the least resembling the color they will become once the kiln melts them into the glassine or porcelain like finished product you see here. Very similar to a box we had years ago, I wish my memory was good enough to recall the buyer because I'm sure they'd love to have this treasure! A find from our November Paris buying trip ... moreand one of my favorites! We believe this one dates to the late 1700s, most likely Italian or Florentine in origins. Sarcophagus shaping, the entire casket is adorned with ornate hand carved decoration including grotesques in bas relief against a gilded mat on all four sides. The shaped lid also with griffin or grotesque figures carved into the solid wood. The finial, also figural, hides a hidden compartment that slides out to the side!
