In my opinion, this lovely antique inkwell dates from the late part of the 19th C. around the 1880's-1890's. The porcelain inkwell insert has two small different spider lines as pictured. The hinge to the inkwell is in good order, and the solid brass feet are fine as well. Overall, the enamelling is fine, but the piece good use a minor cleaning. In my opinion, this lovely antique inkwell dates from the late part of the 19th C. around the 1880's-1890's. The porcelain inkwell insert has two small different spider lines as pictured. The hinge to the inkwell is in good order, and the solid brass feet are fine as well. Overall, the enamelling is fine, but the piece good use a minor cleaning. Antique French Victorian era Ladies Leather over Wood Portmanteau - Suitcase
This is a beautifully preserved French Leather over Wood Ladies Portmanteau or Suitcase. This is a Victorian piece that I would date at the late 1800s. The piece measures 22 1/2 inches in length- 8 1/4 inches in width- and stands 11 1/2 inches tall. The piece is very light at around 4 pounds. The interior of the piece is covered in a Black and Gray linen type material. The interior consists of 2 equal sides- with a stiff divider in between. The divider has leather straps which connect to buckles- and a black envelope for storage. The interior is in good. Clean condition commensurate with age. There is very slight fraying of the linen interior. The exterior is extraordinary- Beautiful stenciled leather in a rich Amber color with Black stenciling. There is an intact Brass Lock- but I do not have the Key. The straps across the top are connected ... moreto the back of the case with rivets- the straps are in good condition but the ends- where they meet the buckles- are fragile. I stabilized one of the strap-ends with strapping tape on the underside to insure that it does not deteriorate further. There is a very nice applied"Window" on the top of the case- which I am assuming is for Identification. For sale is this rare and simply exquisite piece of Victorian Beadwork Art. It is such an item of unique beauty that I was so tempted to keep it. Still am. But I love beautiful art and do have enough. Can you imagine how many hours it took to create? And such a creative mind. The item is three dimensional as shown. It was created on a metal frame. Colors are lovely shades of white, grey and yellow. An ebayer just informed me that it is a French mourning wreath. This delicate item is a true survivor, but it does have a few issues. There are beads missing in one area as shown. One of the petals is dangling and needs a little wire repair. However, this really does not detract form its overall beauty and even adds a bit of history with its little imperfections. As you can tell, I find this unique, exquisite and outstanding.
