This is a stunning antique 19th century signed O Ruffony religious wall mount holy water font. it is a beautiful Victorian era piece and is done with an abundance of ornate detailing. the center plaque is made fro sterling over bronze and Jesus's face is made from a celluloid. it is wrapped with a beautiful bronze roped trim. the holy water font is also held with the trim as well as the outside edge of the routed wooden backing. the font is made from a nicely cut clear crystal and has great floral bronze mounts holding it. the top has a dimensional bronze bow and is finished at the bottom with a dual tassel. it is in great shape and a high quality piece. measures 11 inches long by 5 1/2 inches wide. I THINK THEY MIGHT BE PERUVIAN. THE FRIENDS I GOT THEM FROM LIVED IN PERU WHEN SHE WAS YOUNG. SHE THEN CAME HERE IN THE EARLY 1970'S. OR POSSIBLY ITALIAN HER HUSBAND WAS FROM ITALY AND WORKED FOR PAN AM. AND THEY TRAVELED BACK AND FORTH FROM BOTH COUNTRYS A LOT IN THE 70'S. THEY MOVED TO PERU LAST FALL. SO I CAN'T ASK THEM. Ornate Antique Porcelain Germany or France Catholic Holy Water Font Crucifixion
This sweet and shiny antique white porcelain holy water font depicting the Crucifiction is numbered 0511 and is from Germany or France. It was likely made in the 1890's or early part of the 20th century. The font measures 5 7/8" tall x 2 1/2" wide x 2" deep. The well is 1" deep. Some of the gilded trim is lightly worn and the font has some minor interior discoloration. There is a little thin line(not a crack) in the glaze where it didn't completely cover the seam on one side during the manufacturing process. The font is water tight and very thick. It has no chips. Beautiful details. Old, solid plaster, heavy Holy Water font could be used as a planter perhaps. It does stand, and though there is a hanger on the back due to weight, it would surely have sat on a shelf and the hole in back only there to secure it from falling off the shelf in use. The piece alone. without packaging) weighs over two pounds. Approx 9-1/4" high. 6-1/2" wide, and the base is 2" high. and a touch over 3" deep. The dark original gold painted plaster has patina and age.there are also faded accents of a reddish color on some of the high spots and dark shading within the cast details.
