Vintage Hartland Plastic Jesus and Boy Holy Water Font First Communion Eucharist
Lovely vintage hartland plastic holy water font featuring Jesus administering the Holy Eucharist to a boy at his side. This font is marked with Hartland. Wisc. and measures 5" tall by 3" wide. This is a really neat plastic font with lovely detail and paint work. There are no apparent cracks but the vessel seems to be slightly misaligned from the portion featuring Jesus. It dates to the 1950's, and was made by Hartland. The piece is a lovely piece of vintage Catholica, a charming religious piece! Hartland Plastics was best known for their western figures- horses and cowboys. And sports figures, but in the 1940's and 1950's created a line of really charming religious pieces, like this one. Hartland sold in 1963 to Revlon who discontinued the sale of all their figures to concentrate on making cases for their cosmetics. The molds for the sports and western figures wound up in different places, and were sometimes produced under other toy manufacturers. To my knowledge, the religious pieces have never been re-issued. This is a very collectible vintage molded plastic holy water font depicting the Guardian Angel protecting a young child and with unusual Morning Glory style fluted blue and gold basin all cast in single mold one piece design. It probably dates from the 1950s or earlier and is marked#59. Hartland Molded. Hartland Wisc(onsin) on the reverse back on the left hand side of the angel's wing. The font measures 5 1/2" long, with basin 3" wide and 1 1/2" deep and is graded in Very Fine condition. It came to me with a little brass nail included which fits perfectly into the tiny round perforation at the pinion of the angel's wing where it touches the face(cf photos#3&4) the ideal spot for mounting this very lightweight and very good example of excellent vintage Catholic memorabilia.
