Old Tin Roofing Tile with a Fleur de lum
I am selling a old tin roofing shingle with a fleur de lum on it. It is galvanized tin. Measures 9 1/2 by 14, and if you measure the area that is exposed if you lock them together like they would be on a roof it measures 8 3/8ths by 12 inches. If there is more than one used they interlock on the sides and overlap on the top and bottom. It has a coat of roof coating which can be taken off with stripper. The one you are buying have not been stripped. I have pictures of ones that were cleaned, painted and used as back splash behind a range top. I have a number of these so let me know if you want more. ANTIQUE VINTAGE FLOOR TILE AND/OR ROOFING TOOL SHINGLE REMOVER I am pretty sure this is/was used for removing floor tiles. The person that sold it to me thought it was for removing shingles. But I believe it is a tad too short to have been used for that job. Measurements: 16.75" long. Metal portion is 6 3/8" long. The wood handle adds 10.25" to its overall length. There is still some light rust on the metal. But nothing that detracts from reading"BALTO" on one side and"TOLAND" on the other side. The wood handle only sticks into the hole of the metal portion and it not glued or nailed into it. Still a super snug fit. Appears to be an oak handle from the look of the grain. Roofing slates mined in Pennsylvania and transported down the Ohio and Missisippi Rivers on rafts became the roofing material after the disastrous fire of 1795. Each one was individually hand shaped. This one came from one of the old buildings in the Vieux Carre area and dates back to the late 1700’s and early 1800’s. Here is a very unusual ESTATE SALE FIND in this PENNSYLVANIA BLUE SLATE SHINGLE from WASHINGTON CROSSING PENNSYLVANIA. The item apparently has some history to it according to a hand written note taped to the back. It reads: This Slate Shingle is from the roof of G. Washington's officers building where they stayed in 1775 at Wash. Crossing PA. The structure burned but this is one of the shingles. Of course I have no way to verify the authenticity of the note. This version was made from 1902- 1904. When in 1904 they dropped the R T/ Roofing Tile from the brick. So this brick was made for just 2 years. They are very tough to find in this condition most times they are worn down, the letters very hard to read. Not the case here!
