The ormolu is just exquisite with golden highlights at all points up and down on this piece. The cabinet measures 30 1/2" tall by 14 1/2" across. The marble is a malachite green with fossilized pieces in the graining. The piece is in excellent condition for its early 19th century age. But it does have some tiny losses in a few top spots at the base and the top. We mention for accuracy as nothing is really seen. A Rare Find From Yesteryear! We are giving up an absolutely beautiful. Very old decorative bowl. We purchased this from an antique store in Rochester. Michigan about 12 years ago and have enjoyed displaying it. Now it's time to let someone else marvel at its beauty. Along the outer rim. It has a very delicate, hand painted gold scrolling on a scalloped edge, along with bits of inlaid abalone. The next row has painted blue and white flowers with green vines and leaves. The third row has cream-colored painted curlicues intertwined with many inlaid abalone chips. And the bottom center has a lovely bouquet of flowers that have been beautifully hand painted, mixed with inlaid abalone petals. The paint is crazed throughout due to its age. The handle is some kind of cast metal material. Perhaps pig iron. It is in a ivy leaf pattern and looks ... morelike it was painted or stained. As for the condition. It's in great shape for its age, which we believe to be approximately 120-150 yrs. Unfortunately. We do not know who the artist is. We are also not sure of the material. It is some kind of wood composite. There are 2 chips on the underside which show up clearly in the photos. And one ding on the top rim from the handle falling down upon it, but is not noticeable. We do not claim to be experts. However, my husband and I have been in many Antique stores throughout the States and have never come across another item like this. We feel that it is quite rare. This extraordinary item was sold by the family to which it had belonged since around 1900. The piece was a treasured item of a Mr. Charles Mrzlack of Hammond. Indiana. Mr. Mzlack was a shoe cobbler who repaired shoes for the Chicago Bears for many years. This box had belonged to his father, who was also a cobbler and was given to his father by his mother. This ornamental and fully functional box is a shoe shine kit The beautiful box is a sturdy hand made wood with very ornately hammered and patterned copper overlay. The box features a miniature cobblers shoe mold on the top as the handle. The box extends in width with graduated sections which house the antique glass bottles/jars. ... moreThe jars have very ornate copper tops. The jars are very old. Pre-1900, with lots of air bubbles in the very thick glass. The outer curved sections of the box are hinged and open fully with deep storage. The back of the box has locked compartments(the very old key is included) One compartment is a drawer which pulls out, the other is a fold down compartment. The box is in incredible. Antique condition. It has been very well cared for. It is completely original except for the underside shelf(not visible) which seems to be a particle board replacement. The carving is exquisite, even on the back side of the box, which is NOT copper covered. There are not enough words to describe the beautiful patterning to the copper. It varies from an intricate floral, very Art Nouveau pattern on the front center, to a more Arts and Crafts pattern on the curved and side sections. Rare Antique 19th. Century Chinese Fan Box Embellished in Hand Painted Gold
Up for auction are an amazingly beautiful Antique Chinese/ Cantonese Lacquered and Silk Lined Fan Box. Amazingly detailed with hand painted landscape and figures in gold. Measures almost 16 inches long and approximately 2 inches tall and 2 1/2 inches wide. Inside measurement opening to hold the fan is 11 1/8 inches long with the end side of the fan opening is almost 1 1/4 inches. This used to belong to my grandmother who died back in 1966 and has sat in my parent's garage in storage. Not seeing the light of day for almost 47 years. My wife and I are retiring and moving out of state this summer and need to find new homes for many of our beautiful antiques and collectibles. RARE LARGE ANTIQUE 1924 ARMOR BRONZE J. RUHL TRUMPETING ELEPHANT STATUE BOOKENDS
Up for auction are a pair of Armor Bronze Elephant bookends. These are old. Dated to the very early 1920's. The foundry is well known, its' history well documented, and designs readily catalogued and available. This was a design that would have had a paper label instead of a formal shopmark. The sculptor is safely attributed to moonlighting artist, J. Ruhl. You will find these to be in good condition. Both have intact tusks. Tails, ears, with large smooth golden bronze bodies, securely mounted on semicircle bases. One however, has a trunk with a break in the metal, it is somewhat jagged at the crest. An easy remedy for this does exist. The break has never bothered me. These are pieces that were actually very popular back then. So much so, the design was replicated by Art Metal Works of New Jersey, a Ronson Company. Those, the Ronson ... morepieces, bear an exact likeness in form, but were cast metal with brilliant green elephants on jet black bases. These are electroformed bronze. Both have a nice radiant sheen. And display nicely. The pair are felted and weigh in at 4 lbs, and stand at 6" Tall, 6" Wide, and 3" Deep.
