A RARE French Palais Royal Ox Bone Box with a lustrous mother of pearl plaque on the top. The mother of pearl is etched with a picture of a Hot Air Balloon in flight above the clouds air along with birds. The etching is filled with silver foil. Around the side of the box is a rope work design also filled with silver foil. The inside of the lid has a slight restoration and there is a small line on the rim of the top. Pictured. Otherwise this box is in really nice condition for a box over 200 years old. This box commemorates the beginning of mans first flights made famous by the Montgolfier Bros in Paris in 1783. The glasses measuring approx. 3-1/2" wide x 2-1/2" tall open at the fullest x 2" tall wound down closed. The metal appears to be brass? but may have a gold wash because it is so pretty even after being stored away its lustre is brilliant. The marking on the glasses reads as: SWIFT ~ Duchess. FRANCE. I do not see any other marking. The case is red leather? vinyl? with a snap to keep it closed. The glasses are original to this case, the case is marked FRANCE. This lovely souvenir of France for the Grand Tour traveler consist of a Brass Ormolu decorated framed Mother of Pearl Shell which opens to reveal two Brass Ormolu decorated Baskets holding two original brass hinged& capped glass Perfume Bottles. The Opening Mechanism features a Brass Flower& Bird Finial. Bottom of Item is decorated with two smaller half shell MOP pieces. One on each side, framed& secured with encircling leaf decorated Brass. The entire MOP Shell Pefume ETUI is secured to an oval shaped Alabaster Plinth. The Antique French Palais Royal Souvenir measures approximatley 7" tall. Measuring ... moreto the top of the Finial. The MOP Egg is approximately 4 1/4" tall, and 3" wide. Measuring from the bottom of the Alabaster Plinth to the top of the MOP Egg- approximately 6" And the oval Alabaster base measures about 5" across and is approximately 3" wide. Condition: The Brass framework and decorative Ormolu Brass has aged. And has an age related darkened patina in most areas. One of the smaller MOP Shells at the bottom of item is missing a 3/8" wide area of the shell, see picture#10) Overall the Mother of Pearl Shells are in good condition, intact and having beautiful Pearlescent Rainbow Lustre coloring. One of the Perfume Bottles Brass Caps has some corrosion at the back. Just above the hinge. The hinge is also a bit bent, however the cap opens and closes fine. This same Perfume Bottle has visible residue inside the bottle, most of it is on the glass and can be cleaned, See picture#8, bottle on the left. On offer is an exceptional set of 2 masks covered in mother of pearl and abalone shell. They represent King Rama and Queen Sita and are based on the classical Hindu stories of Ramayana and Mahabharata. They were made on Madura island in Java by very skilled craftsman. In our researches we have only seen two sets come onto the international market in the last 15 years. Which shows how rare they are. The wood masks are common, but to find a set covered in different types of mother of pearl, and to have been made so well by a master craftsman is extremely rare. They have been on loan to, and on display in a local museum for many years. The masks measures 13.5 x 10.5 cm(Rama) and 12.2 x 10 cm(Sita) and is made with yellow lip mother of pearl oyster. The outside of the box features 18k gold corners and edges crafted with an eye catching wave design. The sides. Top, and bottom of the box are real mother of pearl. There is a functional lock on the box that can be opened by pushing the small button on the front. The box opens smoothly and the top even holds in place; the hinge is very strong with good tension. The inside of the lid is lined with copper. The box contains-Four small cut glass medicine bottles with screw on 18k gold tops and glass stoppers-An 18k gold thimble-A small pair of tweezers with a file attached-A small pencil with an 18k gold end-Two broken tags of natural material ... morethat may have been aide à la mémoire for use with the pencil Each of these items has its own specially fit compartment. Each of the small glass bottles has a cut inscription. One is clearly laudanum. An opiate medicine. Another is arquebusade, an ancient flower elixir used to heal gunshot wounds and refresh skin. French king Francis I ordered healing monks to produce this water to heal musket wounds at the end of the 15th century. We are unsure what the inscription on the third bottle is, the first word may be Zinc. The inscription on the remaining bottle was scratched out and is illegible, refer to the photos for your own judgment. Our photos show each of these items out of their box but it doesn't show that the gold plated top can also be removed. There is a significant amount of 18k gold weight in this box. The box is unmarked. The box is in good condition. One corner of the lid has some damage to the mother of pearl which is easily discernible in the photos. There is one small hole on the back of the box. One of the glass bottles. The one marked laudinum, has a broken threaded top so the stopper no longer fits and the gold top can't be screwed on. All of

These are absolutely STUNNING French opera glasses that I have had displayed with a large French doll until recent times. It is now time for them to find a new home. They measure across in diameter approximately 10cm(4" at their widest point. They stand in height approximately 7cm(3 3/4" with the lenses in. They were produced in France although there are no markings. They have been enameled in porcelain and are a vivid blue. Then they have been handpainted with delicate flowers and beading. They have been dated to Circa 1880 or earlier. The outer parts of the glasses are made from brass with mother of pearl at the end of the lenses as well as in the centre to turn the lenses up or down. These are priced extremely cheaply as there is damage on one side(see photo) I have been told this can be repaired but never bothered with researching ... morewhere to get this done as I loved them as they were and the damage could not be seen when they were on display. Antique Mother-of-Pearl Last Supper, As Found
This is just a magnificent old piece. A carved mother-of-pearl representation of the Last Supper. It is not perfect, but I believe that its good qualities far outweigh its problems. It measures 8.25 inches in height by about 8 inches in width. There is a glass frame inset over the tableau of Jesus and the apostles. The back is wooden. Please note the following condition issues. There is a piece of mother-of-pearl missing on the lower left of the exterior frame. There is another piece missing roughly behind Jesus' head. And there is a crack in this area as well. The stand in back has a problem and someone has inserted a push pin to keep it steady. On the side, you can see that someone had opened the frame and then taped it shut. Mid to late 1800s collaboration between the Paris Optician. La Maire et Fils, and the enamel artists of Sevres(not to be confused with the porcelain firm, Manufactory Royal de Sevres) whose kiln-fired barrels, here decorated in floral bouquest and silver rocailles against a ground of Celeste Blue(also called Sevres blue) and with raised enamel bead-jewel trim in purple/lavendar. Mother of pearl eyepiece and adjustment wheel are each in fine form, as well as are the lenses. The overall look is one of opulence and history- a nice antique patina on the metal which we will not alter or polish, but the next owner can bring it all to high gold shine with a bit of polish and elbow grease. Antique French Palais Royal Mother of Pearl Egg Watch Holder Picture Holder
Up for consideration is a wonderful Antique French Palais Royal Mother of Pearl Egg- Watch/Locket/Picture Holder. The MOP egg measures approx. 5 1/8" from the bottom of the alabaster to the top of the bird. There are 2 MOP Eggs each with gold ormolu beading down the side of them. There is a wonderful eagle/bird on the top. If you push down slightly on the top of the bird and turn slightly to the left. It opens the 2 MOP eggs- to reveal a round disk into which a pocketwatch would reside. The round disk measures approx. 1 1/2" in diameter and would probably hold a ladies pocketwatch- there is a hook above the round disk(see Pict. 10) from which you would hang the watch. You could also hang a locket or picture(portrait on ivory) Holding the bird at the top and turning slightly, you can manually"snap" the two MOP eggs closed. ... moreThe base appears to be alabaster and the metal base of the egg has 2"pins" to secure it to the alabaster. It is secure but the metal base(pins) needs to be tightened to the alabaster. I didn't want to attempt this. You could either tighten it yourself or take it to a jeweler to tighten- or just leave it as I have. This is a wonderful and unique and rare item and one you will really love.

Vintage French(possibly English or American) finely hand painted paper and faux Mother of Pearl handled folding fan. Signed in portrait by artist. Artist signature is unknown to seller. Fan is painted on both sides with front having a landscape view with figural and architectural elements and back with a separate landscape view. I believe this fan to be post 1900 and French in origin but you be the judge. I measures approximately 8" in height and 14" in width as unfolded in the main picture.
