A little wear and a few blemishes consistent with any decorative item which was buried for over one thousand years. The piece is signed in the front with the artist initials"M.F. The piece is very finely done. On verso of the bronze there is script writing. The photographs capture the script. The piece is in fine shape. Guaranteed to be a true antique! The family tells me that they believe that the artist M.F. was a family member. The plaque is 3 1/2 inches in diameter and looks like it was attached to something at one point this is a small amount of solder where the ring is, see photo. Beautifully done. Made of brilliant gilt bronze, by Alexandre Chertier(French, 1825- 1890) Chertier, a specialist in ecclesiastical work in silver and bronze received a gold medal as coopirateur at the Exposition Universelle of 1855 while working as foreman at the House of Bachelet in Paris. In 1857 he founded his own firm at 48, rue Mazarin, moving to 7, rue Firu in 1866. His important works, produced after 1870, include those for the church of Mont-Saint-Michel, and for the cathedrals of Saint-Omer, Reims, Moulins and Strasbourg. This substantialy made bronze stand measures 9.5 inches high. 15 x 17 inches at the base, 12 x13.5 at the top. I have pictured it with a modern marble top, which I will include if requested. I do not believe the original piece ever had such a top, but it helps accomodate a larger size of sculpture

It's clear-out time here. I can't remember where this came from. Possibly one of my Mum's forays to Joel's Auction house. I don't know enough about it- is it bronze? It's incredibly heavy for its size. Very ornate in a Rococco style, with a cherub at the top. It's about 30 cm from the highest point to the longest parts of the bottom. It weighs about 1.2 kg. RARE LARGE ANTIQUE 1924 ARMOR BRONZE J. RUHL TRUMPETING ELEPHANT STATUE BOOKENDS
Up for auction are a pair of Armor Bronze Elephant bookends. These are old. Dated to the very early 1920's. The foundry is well known, its' history well documented, and designs readily catalogued and available. This was a design that would have had a paper label instead of a formal shopmark. The sculptor is safely attributed to moonlighting artist, J. Ruhl. You will find these to be in good condition. Both have intact tusks. Tails, ears, with large smooth golden bronze bodies, securely mounted on semicircle bases. One however, has a trunk with a break in the metal, it is somewhat jagged at the crest. An easy remedy for this does exist. The break has never bothered me. These are pieces that were actually very popular back then. So much so, the design was replicated by Art Metal Works of New Jersey, a Ronson Company. Those, the Ronson ... morepieces, bear an exact likeness in form, but were cast metal with brilliant green elephants on jet black bases. These are electroformed bronze. 0 false 18 pt 18 pt 0 0 false false false Bowl measures 11 inches in diameter. When on the stand. Bowl stands 8.5” tall. I fill the bowl with popourri. But of course, it could be filled with candy or something else. This piece really makes a statement! Although the bowl has some beige coloring in the middle, the beige color can't be seen when bowl is full. The carved edges are completely white. The bowl rests on an ornate stand. Made of either bronze or brass, as magnet doesn’t stick. I bought this at an antique shop and don’t know much about it. To me. The stand appears to be quite old and hand made. As to why I think base is“handmade” The“circular” part of the stand appears to be soldered to the“legs” see photo) Also. The words“made in italy” appear to have been etched into the base and the fact that only the word“made” is clearly legible ... moreat this point is an indication(in my opinion) that the stand is pretty old. However. I’m not an antiques expert, and I could be wrong. There are no flaws in brass or bronze base. As to the marble“bowl” There is only one very small chip, which I have captured in the last photo. The close-up makes the chip look much worse than it is; please note the close-up shows some black dirt. Which I have cleaned off with soap and water. I’m 99% sure the bowl is made of marble. As alabaster is softer, and this bowl is quite hard. Please be aware this bowl will be expensive to ship as it is quite heavy. I’ve learned the hard way that things can and do get damaged during shipment. And it is best to have fragile and irreplaceable items such as this“professionally packaged” and insured. However. I don’t want to be held responsible for buyers choices in this regard. Therefore. I will drop this off at a local“UPS store” the buyer will pay the UPS store directly for shipping and can decide for themselves whether they want to insure it and how much they want to spend on packing it. Up for your consideration is an old french gilt bronze round beveled glass box. The gilded ornate bronze mount is unset or unglued from the glass box. The glass is in excellent condition but the gilded bronze metal shows some wear and it needs to be attached or glued to the glass box( see photos as part of description) The name baccarat was hand written in scratched letters at the bottom edge of the glass box. Done by some one in the past to identify the glass box as baccarat. The glass box measures 2 3/4 inches tall by 3 inches in diameter at the box rim. Not including the gilded bronze metal and the lid. Antique French 18C Paperweight Sculptures Marble Gilt Bronze Poodle Dogs (#4361)
Antique gilt bronze/ ormolu and marble poodle paperweights. Made in France. 18th century. Measure: 4 1/2 inches long. 3 1/2 inches to top of pompom on head. Oval marble bases. Carved in steps, decreasing in size towards the top. On each lies a poodle. The dogs are a true pair- looking at each other. They are in heavy gilded bronze. They lie on oval grounds with a few indentations indicating a grassy knoll. The dogs are fabulous: sporting Classic French Poodle hair cuts- showing off the hind side of their bodies, the fronts shaggy like a lion's mane with long, droopy, ears and a pompom on top of the head. The Poodle's natural intelligence is conveyed in the faces. Each wear's a collar around it's neck. While similar, the dogs are not quite identical- see slight differences in all features, from tails to pompoms, shaggy manes, ... morecollars and facial expressions. The marble is soft and buttery and has the feel of it's many years. The dogs are superb- small. But exquisite and fascinating works of art. No signature/marks found. Very good condition. Pair Antique French Empire Period Ormolu Bronze& Marble Urns Converted to Lamps(Click to Enlarge) Click to Enlarge) Included here is a pair of antique urns from the French Empire period. They have a tapered vase shape with dark patination. Are mounted on rouge griotte marble bases, and are fitted with angular handles rising from bearded lion masks. Each measures 12.7 cm(5" wide and deep at the base, and 54 cm(21.25" to the top where the finials screw down, and 57.2 cm(22.5" to the tops of the finials. The lower sections are decorated with foliate mounts and the pedestals feature mounts depicting rosettes and lyres. Sometime in the early twentieth century each were drilled to accomodate lamp hardware, and bronze bases with fitted side holes to accomodate lamp wiring were also added. Brass finials decorate the top of each ... morevase, and the finials do not match. The matching sections beneath the finials have some corrosion and white residue which we will try to remove prior to shipment. We will be happy to add sockets and wiring for $150. Or, if you wish to use them as decorative objects, we can source a brass finial to match either existing finial. These urns are almost identical in design. Size, decoration and craftsmanship to others attributed by Sotheby's to the French bronzier Claude Galle(1759-1815) who is said to have been one of the most important bronze artists of the post-revolutionary period. He was a principal supplier of decorative art for the chateaus Fontainebleau, Compiègne, Rambouillet, and Trianons. This is a lovely set of heavy original bookends featuring a young child sitting restfully with a book reading. These bookends each stand 6" tall. 4 1/2" wide, 5 3/4" deep and weigh 3 lbs. 7 oz. 6 lbs. 14 oz) Authenticity is assured as both are signed S. Morani(sculptor Salvatore Morani) on the side of the base and have the Armor Bronze hallmark. They are in very good original condition. These bookends were manufactured using the highly sought after bronze-clad process. The bronze-clad method in the 1920's was highly innovative. It was an early electroform process which created some of the most outstanding bookends of that era. Adorned with five enamel on copper panels of a gorgeous Sevres'Celeste' blue accented by a jeweled border of raised white enamel dots and gilt accents. Each panel is centered by a painted floral cluster of pale pink roses and blue flowers. Likely forget-me-nots. A charming bouquet, beautifully detailed and the colors are stunning against the vibrant blue background. Such vibrant colors and amazing detail is quite difficult to achieve in the art of fire-kiln enamel on copper. As is typical of these pieces, the enameling was likely by one of the master enamellists of Sevres, similar to Bresson enamels with raised jeweled dots and the quality of Limoges enamels. Antique French Gilt Bronze Guilloche Jeweled Hair Brush
For your consideration is this late 1800s antique french gilt bronze guilloche jeweled hairbrush. There is a beaded heart shape surrounding the jeweled piece that is centered on the back of the brush. The jewels are a beautiful touch on this very feminine and unique antique hairbrush. The jeweled mount is centered with a marquis shaped synthetic or glass prong set ruby that measures an impressive approx 9mmx5mm and has a few small nics in it. Surrounding the beautiful ruby are 28 what appear to be paste diamonds. All beautifully decorated in between each setting. There are no missing or loose stones in the jewel mount. The mount measures approx 1.75" x.75" The backing of the brush appears to be some sort of metal in an ivory color. This heavily ornate hair brush weighs a bit over 8oz. It measures approx 10.25" top to bottom. ... moreAnd approx 3 1/4" at the widest part. There are no makers marks on this brush that I can see. The hair brush has a touch of what appears to be lipstick on a few of the bristles. The amazing metal work on this brush features small flowers, diamond shapes, intricate wire work, mill work beading, and acanthus leaves. The brass has darkened over time, and gilt has worn off, it appears there is a piece of wirework missing from the handle which would not be noticible when on display. This is an equisite example of the intricate wirework and detail that was so prevalent in the late 1800s. This brush has not been cleaned is an estate piece and is in as found condition. Art Nouveau gilt and cut crystal double inkwell with pen holder. French. 19th century. Measures 5 3/4inches accross. 3 1/2inches front to back. Finest French cut crystal with gilt metal mounts. This piece has to be examined from every angle and side to appreciate the tremendous workmanship. the shape is oval with a round front. Underneath is beautifully. Beautifully cut crystal. Top corner of glass is canted. Around the front is a border of gold acorns and oak leaves. At the back this extends all the way up the side and turns over to the top of the crystal in the form of swags, flowers and foliage in exquisite detail. The inkwells are similarly decorated with acorn and oak openwork on the bottom. The metal caps have applied gold Art Nouveau figures of maidens in diaphenous robes, dancing. Superb. Antique 19th Century Bronze Gilt and Marble Military Inkwell
Large and beautiful 19th century gilt bronze and marble naval themed inkstand with matching paperweight. The inkstand measures 16" wide by 9" deep and 10 1/2" high. The paperweight 10" by 4" The removable inkwells are hand blown and hand cut and measure 3 1/2" square by 3 1/4" high. This was a custom, one of a kind piece undoubtedly made for a naval officer. The construction and style of the naval components indicates manufacture around 1880 to 1900. A unique item which would make a spectacular statement on the desk of anyone with a naval background or an interest in military history. Gilt Bronze Frame A fine antique 19th century French Limoges hand painted enamel on copper miniature portrait plaque set in an ornate gilt bronze frame. The portrait depicts a lady in period costuming. Her hair adorned with roses. Enameling atop silver or gold foiling add just touch of shimmer and realism to the fabric& leaves having gilt painted accents. The artist/enamellist achieved every bit of detail in this portrait. Simply gorgeous! The enamel is done atop a convex copper plaque, which is then kiln fired. It takes a very special skill to produce such quality work, as the enamel is first applied as a powder which then liquefies as it melts. Quite difficult to work with and to convey imagery such as this fine portrait is not an easy task.
