Antique ebonised wood picture frame. Set with natural Baroque pearls, paste'diamonds' and natural turquoise. Comes with painted miniature portrait of a baby. Made in France, circa 1880- 1885. Measures 11 inches long. PIcture window in CM is approx 16.5 X 12(measured in cm for better accuracy) Easel frame. Can stand alone, but also has ring for hanging from the wall. Dark wood- almost black. Carved with spear-shaped projections at the 4 cardinal points. Offered is an exceptional 19 th century French gilt bronze easel back photograph frame in the gothic revival style. The finely made gilt bronze panel is mounted on a conforming ground covered in rich burgundy velvet. The metal mounts are beautifully made and finished. With a rich matte gold fire gilt surface, accented with applied details. Perhaps the most interesting aspect of this frame is that it is signed on the easel back, hand engraved, Durand- Ruel/ 1 Rue de la Paix Paris” Durand-Ruel was a high end Paris stationers and gallery, best know for being among the first to exhibit the work of the French impressionist painters. I contacted Caroline Durand-Ruel who said that the gallery was at the Rue de la Paix address in the 1860’s and early 70’s, making it possible to date this frame fairly accurately. Such frames were gilded but generally the gilt is in bad condition. We could let them newly gild but I juge it totally unnecessary. The natural patina will slowly become deep gold aspect. More important is the original glasses which are thick and beveled. It gives to the framed picture a refined relief. A WONDERFUL PAIR OF ANTIQUE FRENCH ORMULU AND GLASS PICTURE FRAMES. PALAIS ROYALE, DATING TO THE PERIOD OF NAPOLEON III, C1850. These are just wonderful antique French picture frames. They have gilt ormolu mounts with a laurel wreath and ribbon motif so indicative of Napoleon III. These frames have a glass center with a red surround to the pictures. The combination of the wonderful burgundy red frame. Gilded ormolu fittings and the pair and single forms is just wonderful! They are in superb condition. The double frame is 3 1/2 iches wide and 3 1/2 inches tall. The single is 3 1/2 inches tall and 2 inches wide.
