The frame is probably celluloid plastic used at that early time and it is beautifully gold embossed with a rococo design on the cream color plastic frame of blades. As the reverse side has the blades, the decoration and pictures are not present on that side. I am 94 and bought this at an estate sale about 30 years ago as used so it is at least circa 30 to 60 years old possibly more! It is delicate and should be handled carefully. Lg Colorful Antique Vtg French Romantic Lovers Cupid Tapestry Gold Gilt Frame
This is a fantastic and colorful vintage tapestry with a couple gazing lovingly at each other in front of a flowing cupid fountain with a beautifully detailed background. It is beautifully framed in an ornately detailed gold gilt solid wood frame with leafy floral accents on all four corners and decorative inner and outer borders with a black band all the way around the middle. Both frame and tapestry are in very good to excellent condition. The frame has some very minor scuffing. Mainly along the top edge, not visible from the front. The tapestry is still woven tight with no holes or tears and very little to no fading, but there is a slight vertical crease all the way down the middle. The crease looks like it was probably pressed and is not extremely noticeable, but it is still slightly visible. The tapestry is older than the frame(it was ... moreframed sometime in the middle of the 20th century, but the tapestry dates to around the late 19th century) The framing was professionally done and the paper backing and hanging wire are intact. The outer measurements of the frame are 36 1/2" W x 34 1/2" H and the tapestry measures about 29" W x 27" H. It will be packed very well, double boxed, and insured during shipping.
