The plastic type material just before the gilded brass corners is the old hard heavy solid type(I believe the same type of material that is found in the cases of daguerreotype photo cases. This is an extremely rare 19th century antique solid gilded bronze oval standing picture frame. it is very ornate with dimensional detailing wrapping the whole outer edge of the oval shaped frame. it is beautifully footed with female face dragon/ griffins. And detailed floral foliage. has a great patina from age. it has a leather wrapped backing and standing arm that has surface ware from age but still works. it measures 6 inches by 4 inches wide and the opening measures 2 1/2 by 3 3/4 inches. it is in overall nice shape. It has 4 brackets on the back that holds picture. Has chain where it can be hung on the wall. Has a spot on the right side of the woman's shoulder. There are a few spots by her hand. It would probably need just a little cleaning and they would come off. Took pictures the best I could. There really small. Otherwise in great condition. Gorgeous frame. Pretty heavy. There are 2 little specks on the picture and there are 2 leaves that are broke off. But you can barley tell. I took close ups of both so you can see for yourself. VICTORIAN PAIR OF SMALL MATCHING GILDED BRASS FRAMES IN LEATHERETTE CASES
From my personal collection of miniature& small decorative frames. Sweet pair of matching gilded brass oval frames in original leatherette cases with satin& velvet lining. The oval measures just over 2" x just over 2 3/4" The delicate, lacy fretwork on each side is 1/2" wide at widest. Each frame has its original slightly convex glass. These often came in pairs for husband& wife portrait paintings done on you-know-what(it won't let be list because I used the dreaded"I" word! even though that is not what I am selling-get your act together EBay! I can find no markings at all, but they are most likely US or German-made. Both in very nice, ready-for-use condition. The cases are a little"wonky" at the spine, the satin inside is holding them together like the spine on a book. Some slight wear to ... morethe color on the cases, I think some cordovan shoe polish will restore them back like new. I leave that to the new owners.
