I suspect they were a matching pair at one point, and that the handle on one of the leaves was damaged and shaved off the piece. They are the same size, and one fits in the other nicely. Here we have a beautiful antique carved gold leaf Italian wood frame. It has a wood plaque of a saint in it now but would fit a painting or porcelain plaque. It is gorgeous but it does have damage. The left side has been broken off and repaired. It is very stable and looks& displays well. In addition. On the same side 3 curls on the front have been reattached. This is a very nice Art Nouveau style frame with a carved floral gesso design on the top of the arch and in each lower corner- with red& green color detail on the flowers& subtle gold leaf/gilt throughout the whole frame- showing great craftsmanship. Character& style. We do not see any makers marks or names. The back of the frame is a dark aged wood- this is an old frame. From our research we believe this from the Victorian era. The late 1800s. It measures 35” x 43” overall with 30 ½” x 38 ¼” 1” deep rabbet and a reveal of 29 ½” x 37 ¼” The pictures speak well for this frame. Showing the crisp hand carving, and stable antique metal leaf surface with warm areas of wear. There are some miter gaps evident. The quality is similar to Newcomb macklin, but I have never seen them use corrugated fasteners on large frames. The wood appears to be pine of some sort and the design is similar to many Foster Brothers. This is a great period molding that would be appropriate for a museum-class artwork. Antique Picture Frame made by Walfred Thulin 1926. This Frame is Hand carved and finished with gold leaf using traditional water gilding techniques. The finish has a lite rub just enough to see the lap lines. The Frame is 88 years old and it has been around the block the edges. High points, corners show wear, and one of short lengths has a crack in the rabbet. Measurements 32 1/2 x 40 1/2 inside, 38 1/2 x 46 1/2 outside, profile 3 1/2 x 2, and rabbet depth 3/8. Antique carved wood picture frame Palm Leaf Theme
This frame was found as is. There is damage at the top of the frame. There is also a broken leave which is shown in the photo. I have taken photos to show the damage. There may have been a stand on the back at one time but it is missing. The frame measures 11 1/2" x 9 1/2" The wood used to carve the frame I am not familiar with but it is extremely hard.
