The piece is signed in the front with the artist initials"M.F. The piece is very finely done. On verso of the bronze there is script writing. The photographs capture the script. The piece is in fine shape. Guaranteed to be a true antique! The family tells me that they believe that the artist M.F. was a family member. The plaque is 3 1/2 inches in diameter and looks like it was attached to something at one point this is a small amount of solder where the ring is, see photo. Beautifully done. Excuse me for my bad English. Here I propose a little hand painted miniature. It’s made on a sort of faux ivory. Celluloid I think. The miniature depicting a young woman orange dressed in a romantic style with a big laced hat. There is a sort of sign but I can’t read it. The painting is protected by a glass but unframed. It measures approx 1 1/2 inch high. I think that this piece can be made in the beginning of the 20th century. I found this lot on an old antique shop closed since 80’s. Portrait Miniature of a Gentleman in a fabulous frame of Gilded bronze with original Bohemian Garnet decoration. The Gentleman must be quite important as his is wearing a Medal or Order that I cannot identify. Also the frame is very special. The miniature is expertly painted. Signed and dated 1845. I can only make out part of the signature which is something like Wagenheun. The frame is easel backed and can also be hung. I have not taken the miniature out of the frame so I do not know if there is anything on the back of the picture to identify the man. Measures approximately 3 ¾" x 4 ¼" European. Antique Continental signed miniature portrait, wood frame, 1850-1899
This lovely Continental portrait is of a young lady dressed in a dress and fur cape. The portrait is signed with an illegible signature. The back is covered with a page out of a German bible. The portrait dates to the last quarter of the 19th century. The wood frame is the classic oval with a metal rim. The paining is done on a very thin wafer. Condition is very good; there is some wear to the frame consistent with age. The wafer is protected with glass and the painting is complete. Hand painted on what appears to be celluloid with it's original presentation box. Artist signed. Elizabeth Paterson 1925, on the edge under the frame. I also have a companion piece, possibly this man's wife or sister, that is signed Bessie Currie Paterson and dated 1917. That portrait is also available for sale. The beautiful painting is so finely detailed and life-like. True colors with no fading. You can see the luster of his pearl tie pin and the light shining in his hazel eyes. You can see the laugh lines at the corners of his eyes and the gray hair at his temples. My photos do not do it justice. Simply exquisite. ... moreThe frame is gilded sterling silver with a beautiful repousse border. A loop at the top for hanging. The frame measures 3&7/8" x 5" not including the loop. This is a framed portrait. It is not a pendant. It measures 5" north to south. It weighs 8.28 ounces. Quite heavy for the size. The glass is slightly convex with no chips or cracks. There was a little bit of dust and lint under the glass. It has been cleaned. The inside back of the frame is hallmarked with a C and Sterling. See photo. The brown leather presentation box has a beautiful Art Nouveau style monogram. It appears to be MCP. Visible wear on the outside. Especially around the bottom edge. The hinge is tight. Structurally sound. The sterling silver clasp is embellished with two natural pearls and a genuine faceted amethyst. The amethyst measures 7mm in diameter. The clasp works well. The lining is purple silk with one tiny tear. The frame rests in a velvet easel that comes out of the box so the portrait can be displayed on a table. The purple velvet is in excellent condition. The painting measures about 1.8" by 1.5" Framed in wood with an incised cream veneer that measures approximately 3.25" by 3.8" These portraits were often done in gouache or watercolor. Here we have a gorgeous antique miniature on ivory sliver. Portrait, signed(unable to decipher name) and framed. The subject is George Villiers who was the first Duke of Buckingham and was reported to have been the lover of King James I. He was assassinated in 1628 by a disgruntled army officer. The frame looks like a gessoed piece and measures about 7 x 7.75" with the painted area about 3.5" x 2.75" and the glass frame has a bit of a concave look. The frame has a couple chips and some light crackling. The quality of the miniature painting is amazing and I tried to get closeups so you can see how wonderful a job the artist did. It is a wind up music box inside a case. The music box is a very fine Reuge Swiss one that a plays a beautiful and haunting version of the song Avi Maria. The really cool thing about this for me is the painting on ivory(I believe this to be true but have not removed the portrait to confirm it) that is set into the bronze frame. The visible size of the portrait is about 1-7/16” 3.7 cm) top to bottom and about 1-1/8” 2.9 cm) left to right. The painting is under glass and is artist signed just above where the subject’s back meets the frame and of what I can make out appears to read“Colvis” It is 100% hand painted and the subject appears to be the Madonna. The outer ... morecase consists of an ornate bronze dore front with open lattice work. The back of the case is very heavy pressed paper covered with a deep red velvet like fabric. The front and back are held together with tiny brass nails. Which are fairly easy to remove in order to open the case. The bronze frame has 8 tiny holes for the nails but only 5 nails remain. This still holds the case together securely. The music box is inside with only the winding key for it outside the case. There is an easel piece on the back of the case to allow the case to be displayed standing up a hook on the top for the case to be hung or suspended if desired. The music box inside the case is marked“REUGE STE-CROX SWITZERLAND” and appears to be a precision instrument. The winding key outside the case is also marked“REUGE” I find no other markings on the case. This is in great original condition. It is a very nice quality piece and a very attractive and desirable piece! It has been in my personal collection in a smoke free home since 1999.
