Here is a Victorian penny lick glass which does not hold too much as it is quite shallow and is probably a half penny lick it is just under 4" high and in good condition with no damage. I am also listing another which I resume is a penny lick. it is the same height but it holds more. Low start and no reserve. Please check my other items. I am more than willing to combine postage. The bowl is 2 1/4 inches deep of which 1 inch is deception so quite a generous lick! It stands 3.5 inches tall. A penny lick was a small glass for serving ice cream from the mid nineteenth century to the early twentieth century Street vendors would sell the contents of the glass for one penny. Antique Victorian 2d 2 pence penny lick ice cream vendor serving glass This is a lovely piece of Victoriana history being a 2 penny lick glass. Ice cream vendors on the street would sell small ice cream portions in these little glasses and once the ice cream had been licked from the glass. The glass would then be given back to the vendor to serve another portion to another member of the public. These were eventually banned from being used due to hygiene concerns and the first wafer cone was first used in c1904. There are 3 sizes of glass they were sold in. 1/2 pence, 1 pence and two pence with this ... morebeing the deeper 2 pence version. The glass measures approx 2 1/2" tall. In very good condition with the expected wear including scratches and scuffing though no apparent chips or cracks are present. It may benefit from a light clean. Apologies to anyone who was previously watching this item or who bid on it. I stated on my original listing that it had no damage- on closer examination I have found a tiny nibble on the rim. There are also a few lines inside the bowl- I believe these are just part of the manufacturing process. But thought it best to mention them. So I have relisted this item to ensure I'm not giving a misleading description. So. Once again, on offer is this superb original antique glass penny lick- it has some very nice little air bubbles from when it was blown. Penny licks were used for serving ice cream from the mid 19th century to the early 20th century. A tall late 19th century Victorian clear glass two part mould penny lick ice cream glass with thick glass pedestal stem.Circular pad foot base and long funnel shaped bowl- the thick glass disguised the fact that the actual bowl was very shallow.
